I really enjoy your videos from this area! I have a lot of connection to the eastern Sierra. My dad lived in Lone Pine for three years when he was a kid (late 50s/early 60s, he has some stories from his dad about interactions with some of the movie stars). We also go camping at Rock Creek Lake every year! Next time you do that climb, get some pie! I'm not fit enough on a bike yet to tackle the huge climbs (or even Rock Creek Road), but I started bringing my bike up there last year. I did a Hot Creek gravel loop and the June Lakes loop on pavement this year. Next year, I'm hoping I can tackle something more difficult.
@@GravelBikeCalifornia The Rock Creek Lake resort usually stays open until mid-October. I have a friend who did the Mammoth Fondo last weekend and she said it was beautiful up there right now, despite the heat
How much water did you carry? Are there any water stops along the way (I’d assume not), but I do assume there is water at the top. Looks like an awesome ride. I also had the pleasure of driving through Death Valley on Badwater marathon day. It was great cheering for them as I came across the runners and be able to tell the front runners how long ago I’d passed the folks in first place.
@@zimmejoc I think I did four bottles, but it looked like they were installing a water fountain when we were doing it and it looks like it shows up on the Strava heat map
Hi - I remember Horseshoe Meadow rd well ! Terrifying 😂. Question - heading up to Lone Pine area soon - how do you access the Tuttle Creek Rd area of those great 'Bama rocks from the 395? Is there a Tuttle Creek exit or another street. Thanks for any help ?
@@GravelBikeCalifornia how come the Portal road is closed ? Anyway, we’re heading north on the 395 as we approach Lone Pine , so from what I see map wise , it looks like we make a left on Ludkin Cyn road, and then hook up with Tuttle from that. Tuttle weaves its way past the Pheasant Hunt club and then through the rocks & back to Lone Pine. Sounds like a plan? And thanks so much for your help ! Appreciate the introduction to this new route via your video ….
Great video as always!!! Awesome job. Love seeing big climbs in California.
Definitely one of my most memorable rides ever.
Some great shots!
@@gravelpack8536 this definitely should be on your list

@@DanBrim I know around now those places are starting to close for the season. I hope to catch some goodies on the way up this Thursday

Great video. What was your top speed coming down from the top?
Strava tells me 43.5 mph. Interesting only 38 on Onion Valley...

It's just a third of a mile out of Lone Pine west on Whitney Portal Road (which is currently closed, so you'd have to take Tuttle anyways).

Every time the song comes on reminds me of that song from nine inch nails 🤷🏽
I want to have Trent Reznor on the payroll....once I have a payroll.
