Hey i know this is an old run but have you considered changing the method of death in death heavy rooms?. Just falling has a long grace time animation for you to catch yourself. On casual playthrus i would punch a wall while flying to avoid it
Is there a way to know where the "secret" crystals are? I found a couple under the floor by accident. Are they related to the number tables you can find in the crawl spaces?

I timed it and in order from faster to slowest its:
Death by enemy/Taking the HP tile
Stepping off and falling
Punching a wall and falling
