Looked into the history of the building and from what I could gather, it's insignificant. Other than being military housing during WWII (all other hotels at the time did the same thing) it was just a place to stay for vagrants and low income folk for most of its history. There comes a point where preserving the past goes too far.
Doesn't bother me much, the history of that place has always been sordid. Was even worse as a SRO, not sad to see that one go. I would rather see some affordable housing in place, however that area is also a bit sordid.
@@schwags1969 I’m on ur side for this, take it down. Maybe put a sign or smth that reflects the historical uses of that building but ppl in the comments are just complaining that it’s an ‘architectural gem’. I don’t get it, what’s its function?
@@mymocs61 Having known of the history and location of that building I can say for sure it will likely not be missed. Maybe a lot of people do not know that, there are a lot of armchair texters out there with no clue about life in general. Have a good one, can't say I miss Vancouver much these days.
Canada has very little old architecture, this is so irresponsible. They should be sued
Why were the developers permitted to let it sit and rot for years? Surprised the city did nothing other than collect taxes on it.
We're so lucky we don't need any housing for local working people...

How about restoring it and turn into affordable housing
They should have restored it 10 years ago.
I lost brain cells reading this comment section. So much brain dead slander
Do you live in Vancouver?
@@schwags1969 yes, 15 mins away from this hotel.
@@mymocs61 I mean it is a bit sad, don't get me wrong. That place has been trashed for years though.
