So I was given one of these, I'm not a very experienced home brewer, and this will be my first time brewing beer. I'm weirded out about the lack of an airlock. Do you have any tips for telling when it's done? Should I just use a hydrometer or something? I'm used to getting at least some kind of indication with an airlock on the 1 gal Jugs. It's a pretty cool kit, mine came with two beers to try making. The size is perfect, I'm more of a social drinker, and making 5 gal batches at a time would be a waste for me but I enjoy making home brewing.
Yea you could use a Hydrometer and when it hits FG you are good. I let mine go for about 2 weeks then move them to bottles. With this fermenter you do not want to let it sit too long. When the beer is fermenting it will release carbon dioxide so that will keep the bad stuff out but once its done you could run into issues. Cheers

Great for small batches, better than making a full batch of a new experimental beer that maybe goes wrong and ends up down the sink! That’s my worst nightmare!
Right. Once we get into bigger grain bills and adding more hops we will make some 5 gallon versions of the ones we like just to see how they scale but for the most part Im love making small batches. I can make them when I want and they dont take up most of my day. Cheers
I would be doing the same. Mine have been sitting for a little over a year but will start brewing a lot here soon so I want to see how they have held up. Cheers
I swapped the plastic bottles out for the glass amber 16oz. Today is the 2nd week and I am just trying to figure out how to use the hydrometer. I am very excited thank you for the video I subscribed!
Brad I saw few of your videos. Love em all I just tried my first batch. It's on the second day. I can't get light to go thru to see if there is bubbles going. I open top and see few all over top and the top has a merky film...is that normal..
Thanks. Yea I think you are fine. I would let it go for about 3 days to see what you can get. I would open the top on day 3 and see what you have. You should have a nice creamy head(if you used a top fermenting yeast) I wouldn't open the top after day 5. Please keep me posted on how it turns out. Cheers
@@superman27721 I think the DME or liquid malt extract would be ok. If its liquid malt extract with hops in it you might not get the hops in the beer. I think the yeast would be the biggest issue. I would rehydrate the yeast to make sure its still good b/4 making that batch. Cheers
I use mine for bottling small batches. Mine has a valve with a handle to turn it on and off. It has a white lid and white valve . The valve is barbed. It might be an older model. Never leaks. Great video as always. The plastic bottles are great too. Really nice review. I agree fully about the tilt.
I have both, the old white one, with turn handle and spigot, and the newer one as shown in the video. The older valve setup is MUCH better. Never leaks and, with the addition of a hose/bottle wand, I really don't worry about oxidation in my test batches.
At first I was not sure they would work but if you think about it pop bottles have been like this for a long time. I think they work fine just make sure you get them nice and tight. I think in one of the tasting I did not do that and the beer was flat. Cheers
Great video! Have tried to use a rubber grommet instead of the washer to stop leakage? That's just a little suggestion; I learned that trick from making hydroponic units for plants.
I’m wine maker doing my first beer (American pale ale) I noticed there’s no sugar in the kit does the yeast get its sugar from the grains there was no directions with the kit I just watched a video and noticed were not adding sugar
Yup the sugar would be pulled out the grains. If you are doing an all grain batch you would mash in(add hot water to the grains for about 1 hr). For a DME(dry malt extract) or LME(liquid malt extract) kit you don't have to do anything with them as the maker has pulled the sugar out for you. Most of the time you will see the kits will cost more than doing an all grain batch but you will save time with a DME or LME kit. If you have a LME kit the directions should be on the inside of the label. You can pull that off to see them. If its DME you should have a paper showing you the steps. Most of the time you can find the directions on the website that you bought the kit from. Cheers
I could do something like that but it would be hard. As the opening in the bottles is not that big. I think the best way would be to keep the fermenter at an angle so all the trub and hops go to the back of the fermenter. Cheers
If its a IPA with dry hops I would say 10 days. If its an IPA w/o dry hops I would go 2 weeks. If its a Brown Porter or Stout you could go 3 weeks. What are you making? Cheers
Just got a kit as a gift, the corona and pils with the white lid and spigot - They expired in 2014! I'll brew it anyhow with fresh yeast, how does this fermenter vent off the co2? I'll angle it back in my fermentation chamber, and use a hose to rack into my bottles preventing oxidation - great tip thanks!
If you take the lid off you will see a half whole on each side. This will let the CO2 out. Let me know how it turns out. I just picked up the Diablo IPA and the Long Play IPA Kits from Mr. Beer that I will be making soon. Cheers

Well 15 days beer taste test good now it's bottles waiting another 10 days then drink. I making a video as well on my first batch

I want to put ginger in my American Ale in my Mr. Beer fermenter. Do I put the ginger in the fermenter or put it in when I bottle?
I would add it with 10 mins left in the boil. I wouldn't add it to the bottle as you could get off-flavors letting it sit for 2 or more weeks.

Use mesh to catch the stuff before pouring into the bottles?
