  • I had a service call to reset a pull station. At this school, the Maintance Director left and the secretary inherited many of his responsibilities. For us technicians, resetting a pull station is easy but for this secertary, she had never encountered these situations not to mention all the other responsibilities for the facility. It can be very stressful if the alarm is sounding and everyone is coming to you wanting to know what's going on and you're trying to figure all this out. That's my insperation for making this video. Hopefully it will help someone!

One of the things to know about the Siemens HMS-D style pull stations (like the one shown in the vid): even though the pull handle has a spring, the handle can get stuck on older/dirtier pulls. No idea why that’s the case but you may have to manually push the pull handle back up. One thing to know about the Notifier/Fire-lite/Honeywell BG-10 models is that it was recalled due to the screw reset breaking the pull station plastic. One thing to know about the BG12 models of Honeywell pulls is that you don’t need to flip the switch back up. The pull is designed to automatically flip the switch back up by itself (I’m not joking. It’s true!). One thing to know about the Edwards 270 style pulls is that it’s easy to strip the “tamper proof” security screw on top of the newer models.

@@firealarmtech4100 I would also like to know if any more service call vids are coming or if you are gonna show some inspections soon. Even though I have a bunch of knowledge about fire alarm hardware, I’m not yet a tech. I’m still an enthusiast looking to get into the field. I’m still hoping to get into the field one day as I have fun tinkering with fire alarm devices (I bought my own from eBay).

A lot of people say that on the notifier bg12 pull stations you don’t have to many flip the switch from alarm to normal, if you just open and close it, it will automatically flip the switch for you

How would you reset the Simplex pull station with your car key ? Is this a trick question ?

I don't know, how? This could help someone who has lost or can't find a "B" key.

Could you insert something like a key or maybe a pocket knife below the t-bar and push the button in letting the t-bar go back up ?@@firealarmtech4100
