A werewolf novel I really enjoyed was Those Across the River by Christopher Buehlman. Also, Wolf's Hour by Robert McCammon was fantastic. More of a ww2 thriller than horror, but also includes a hearty coming of age aspect -- very enjoyable! 🐺
I read a witch horror this past October called The Midwives by Duncan Ralston, and I feel like that's something you would enjoy 🧙‍♀️

For both vampires and witches I recommend Anne Rice: Interview with the Vampire and The Witching Hour are both great!

I might need to read When the Moon Turns to Blood now. While I normally steer clear of true crime, I have a friend who has become radicalized and is constantly in a state of fear because she believes that the "end times' are upon us. I want to understand why she thinks this way, but without engaging in a friendship-ending argument, if I can avoid it.
Thank you for this video, Rachel!

Thank you for your reviews, your videos are always great! A werewolf book that is an all time favorite and is very underrated or at least under the radar is The Devourers by Indrapramit Das!

I'm kind of surprise you haven't read "Interview with a Vampire." Another Canadian booktuber thought it was sublime. I read it when I was pretty young and thought it was excellent but I would stop after reading "The Vampire Lestat." The quality of output from Anne Rice dropped like a ton of stones. So I know it's not the homework result you requested but I just pick up & read Interview w/a Vampire if you can.

I don't remember if you've read this already and it is post apocalyptic but I think you would enjoy The Passage trilogy by Justin Cronin. 🧛‍♂️/ 🧟‍♂️
While I generally like witchy books, I thought The Year Of The Witching fell a little flat for me too. It was ok but didn't wow me!

Have you read The Crow Girl as by Erik Axl Sund? There is an omnibus I bought and read, mesmerized, and only after I'd read it did I realize it was actually three books when originally published. Seamless, though, so I'd recommend buying The Crow Girl, as it's called. Scandinavian procedural killer thriller horror with great pacing and compelling people.

I'm glad you enjoyed The Last Werewolf, Duncan really expands on it with the trilogy. I hadn't heard about the comparison to Interview, but I see why people would. What I really liked about it (actually, about both of those) is that the literary aspect of it made it feel like it was truly in our reality.

Love your videos as always. When the Moon turns to Blood- I really want to know how did 2 normal people turn psychopathic or so mentally ill that they believed their own crazed thinking. It has to be mental illness. How do you go from loving mom to that ugh all the questions! Lol on Lucky Girl, I need to pick it up. I’m the opposite though, I don’t like stories within a story, I’d rather the author skip over it and stick to the main story 😊 lovely recs. Thank you!

Moondance by S P Somtow is a great under-discussed werewolf book, and the short story "The Complete Werewolf" as by Anthony Boucher is another over-looked zinger.
Alan Dean Foster's Icerigger trilogy is great for winter fiction. It's SF and adventure and great fun.

I recommend The Wolfman by Nicholas Pekearo. An interesting twist on the werewolf story. This was a first novel in what looked to be a promising career. He was killed while working as an auxiliary police officer in New York while following a man who had just killed and robbed a pizza shop owner. It came out in 2008 so it may not be easy to find.

I should try the last werewolf. I’ve avoided any books from the last 10 yrs or so that mention werewolf in the synopsis due to the cheesiness and YA takes on them.
My sister gave me her copy of The Snowman when it first came out. I still haven’t read it for the same reasons you mentioned. I read every Harry Bosch novel (except for last couple) in a short period of time. I liked them but now all other similar themed novels by others don’t feel fresh or original (even if they may have wrote them first and Connelly did it much later). Having the same issue with fantasy this year. I’m not bothering with library fantasy books that I would have eagerly grabbed a couple years ago. I’m sure I’ll swing back around and enjoy them again in a few years though.

I'm a big werewolf fan myself! The Last Werewolf was okay, but I thought it was a bit pretentious. I haven't heard of Hemlock Grove so I will definitely need to check that out.
Some of my favorite werewolf books:
    Mongrels by Stephen Graham Jones
    Wolf's Hour by Robert McCammon
    The Devourers by Indra Das
The Wolf in the Attic by Paul Kearney
    Sharp Teeth by Toby Barlow
    Wolfsangel by M.D. Lachlan
The Skin Trade by George R.R. Martin
Sorry! I really like werewolf books.
