I went to US in 2012 when I was 18, it was quite a surreal experience to see people walk around armed, definitely felt unsafe at times. I can't imagine how it is now.
We can reassure ourselves cheaply by watching videos of Americans staging their conceptions of "freedom of speech" in a ridiculously folkloric way, but that does not protect us from the real problem of demagogy in Europe which is gradually distilling violent political discourse.
I visit my sister in Texas. Her neighbour was shooting his gun in a residential neighbourhood in his backyard. Cops did nothing. On the way to Arkansas we drove by a shooting scene in a small town. And drove by a cop shooting in Arkansas. My visit was 3 weeks. When I go to US, I can never totally relax with all these guns around, out in the open.
That's indeed an interesting point of view. I've always tried to put into words a similar observation, which is the assumption that the American riots have less damaging effects than the European ones, which you feel are really dangerous - as I said, you put it best: in Europe, it's not a show. It is real.
Come on Ryan. The mass shootings and shootings happen in all places. Big cities, small towns. School shootings, Church shootings, parades, concerts, places of work, stores, clubs. I can't think of a place where it actually didn't happen.
The thing about free speech in Europe is that you are allowed to express yourself, as long as you do so without hate speech and discrimination. But if I want to call someone I dislike a fascist or worse, I am free to do so. I could probably say that to a police officer without any repercussions too, but that small extra bit of freedom to hate speech is basically the only difference between freedom of speech in the US and Europe.
@@futurefox128Not strictly true at least here in the U.K. We have a "nine o'clock watershed" where programming leans more in the direction of adults where yes there are very few (if any limits) on what can be said. 👍🇬🇧
@@albinjohnsson2511Almost all European countries are signed up to the European Convention on Human Rights which gives "qualified protection" to "freedom of expression". That qualification gives individual governments pretexts for limiting freedom of speech on a variety of grounds. "Hate-speech" is a subjective judgement and so widely interpreted in the UK that it is a definite threat to freedom of speech. If you misgender, for example, that can be regarded as "hate-speech". We even have "non-crime hate incidents" in the UK where you can be visited by the police for purposes of re-education even though no crime has been committed. Such incidents are recorded and held on file. In Scotland, you may be arrested if you are reported as having said something hateful in private behind the walls of your own house. The objectors are always on the left of the political spectrum.
People are scared of coming to Australia because of the wildlife. But people are scared of going to the U.S. because of the people. Give me giant spiders any day.
@@stevemcgowen Same in my country. A mild warning, but a warning still. But I'd go there (already did) still. Just know it's a freaky place and know how to behave to not get in trouble and you should be perfectly fine. Just keep in mind it's neither as save, nor as free, as it is in likely your country and it is a bit police-statey.
One thing that astonishes me about the US, is that there is no sense of shared values common in other countries. Each State seems to be different from the next. Australia manages shared values, despite its size and different states we are communally the same. The UK is made up of 3 separate countries, again shared values. Europe falls into a similar category. I wish it was the same for the US, but it seems to foster such extremism in all areas, this is because it's about MY rights above communal rights. Such individualism is never going to work.
The point is not only gun violence. It's abusive police that has no training. React to the videos were the stop a German or when they stop Canadians and they are bamboozled and say they need an US driver's license. For me it was driving on the highway/interstate. I've been in NC a long time and drove thousands of miles and almost each ride our car felt unsafe, other drivers were absolutely unaware of their surroundings, blown tires every few miles. Police just drove by and didn't even clear those hazards. Trucks that we drove by didn't properly secure their load. There was even a mattress on the highway. Some close calls of other drivers changing Lanes blindly and more. The airport interview is the worst. In no country I traveled to (I've been in over 30 countries) I was interviewed by the flight personal as if I was a t*rrorist. The guy next to me was all good. He just said he's invited to an Afghan wedding in the States and thrads called him back for a "more thorough talk". The amount of guns in this country is crazy. We've met so many hikers in the Smoky's carrying guns because of the black bears. It was not a single one. We met a family and except for the pre-teen kid, everyone carried a gun. That's literally overkill.
All that, plus (which btw also explains their highway situation): So many lack self control, impulse control, are selfish and entitled and have anger issues.
Not Beyoncé 😮 playing in the background! crazy "Freedom!!" 😂. But I'm sure that all those people don't represent US, or at least I hope so, never been to US but Ryan you seem a nice person😅 and you are American 😊. Hi from a European ,a neighbor living in Canada 🇨🇦!
Ryan, are you worried about those French tourists experience in America? They must have thought American protests were cute and childlike compared to how it's done in France!!! 😂🤣😂 Under 25k protesters down the streets is considered a get-together in Paris, a non-event. This couple is probably going home to tell everyone how tame and ridiculous American protests are. As for freedom of speech, a Danish philosopher, Kierkegaard, said: "𝑷𝒆𝒐𝒑𝒍𝒆 𝒅𝒆𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒅𝒐𝒎 𝒐𝒇 𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒆𝒄𝒉 𝒕𝒐 𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒖𝒑 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒅𝒐𝒎 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒘𝒉𝒊𝒄𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒂𝒗𝒐𝒊𝒅." 😐 That's why wicked-tongued politicians are "in-vogue", they spill their bile and people do the same without thinking!
I'd be scared to pass through small alleys or certain districts in US cities, but yeah, a conglomeration of hardcore political Americans does seem rather scary as well. However, what strikes me most is how everywhere in the world there are always people willing to waste their free time. I'd rather sleep or stare at a wall than go out to such a human circus.
I have a velcro Canadian flag patch I put on my backpack carryon when I'm out and about. Trying to explain how US America could elect someone like trumph was too tiring the first time. Now I just say I am Canadian.
I've heard a lot of people from the US doing that. But what if you talk to people and are asked where you're from? Or is it more like because you don't want tourist guides, cashiers etc to immediately have a negative prejudice?
So you're pretending to be Canadian so you don't have to own your own country's faults? Coward. Canadians aren't impressed with people like you. Those who take advantage of Canadian privilege (in this case, to be viewed favorably in foreign countries) without understanding the responsibilities owed in return (to behave as a polite guest, in this case) are known as "Canadians of Convenience." It's actually not hard to trip them up.

There was a speech given by a member of parliament in Ottawa two days ago, which I think you may find interesting. NDP member Charlie Angus addressed the repeated Trump threats and insults to Justin Trudeau.
The idea that money is part of free speech and that businesses are 'people' entitled to the same rights as people...presents a rather twisted concept of 'freedom of speech' to outsiders. Sticking to European 'freedom of expression' with more barriers against money in politics and laws against incitement to violence, etc seems rather more appealing.
Allowing hate speech in your society is signaling your society condones it. There is a point where your rights infringe on another's rights and USA does not seem to acknowledge that line.
Freedom of speech should not include racist slurs hate speech and inciting hatred and violence That’s not your right What about the rights and safety If the peopke your inciting hatred and violence Against ?!? They have the right to safety and respect And if that’s Freedom?!?! That’s what freedom looojs like to Americans?!?! Help?!?!
In Europe your freedom stops when it starts information on other peoples freedoms/rights. So it's my right to not be insulted because of my race or sexuality. I rather have the right to not be insulted than the right to insult others. It's like "don't go to others what you don't want to be done to yourself" is a law.
Everytime I hear American's mention anything to do with politics, I keep hearing the same thing" it's entertaining" I really am confused as to American's treating politics the same way as a movie , no wonder you elect criminals into your highest office, why do you do it ???
This whole interaction really reminded me of the book I'm Starting to Worry About This Black Box of Doom by Jason Pargin. It's full of the absurdities of America.

It is not solely a US-thing! 🤣 and as MAGA comes to 'rear it's ugly head', I'm betting that most of the world, will be more free than US citizens!! 2. there's a huge difference between free speech/hate speech! Free speech is good. Use it as a sounding board, to measure the joy or displeasure concerning politics, social inequalities etc... Hate speech, which involves a 'rally' to do evil, to harm or do violence upon others, should be illegal! - and is in most other countries around the world 😉 hello from Denmark 🌸
14:16 even the microphone had enough 😂Yep tbh there are clowns like that everywhere in world, but for some reason only in USA they are allowed to spew that nonsense in public. Honestly calling them mentally ill is actually insult for most of mentally ill people (myself included) to be group in with THAT.
Yeah, Trump always tries to whip every potential "event" into another huge, malicious J6 riot (in his honor, I guess). Instead it became this pathetic, involuntarily funny clown parade - no more sinister than an impulsively gathered theater show featuring adult-looking kids with behavioral issues. 🤦
In fact in France you can say such crazy things (racism, homophobie,...) but you have to assume your speech, and you'll be pursued if someone file a complaint. So sensible persons don't say bullshit like this, usually people think before speaking. We have a saying in France : literally "turn 7 times your tongue in your mouth, before open it" (that means, spend some time to think before saying thing you'll regret after)
Engage brain before speaking is a good adage to live by. What does it mean when someone doesn t think before they speak? When you don't think before you speak, you're more likely to make badly informed statements and reduce your credibility, let alone hurt someone by 'putting your foot in your mouth', even if your intentions were genuinely harmless.
Most impressive thing in this video is most certainly the sudden "ban circumsision" guy 🤣. Like... What are you doig there? Although he is right... 😅 Oh, and the French guy speaking English. Amazing! I'm Belgian. Half of my country speaks French (I'm Dutch speaking). Hardly met anyone speaking or understanding English there...

Lets ace it (opening) These are people seeking somewhere to belong. They are scared stiff on being nonentities ignored by the world. Pick a side, any side, just acknowledge I exist.
Ask yourself what kind of country allows people to publicly demean others because of their skin tone, their sexual orientation, their disabilities, or their lack of a home, none of which is in their control. That is not a place I would want to live.
Well, that was dumbfounding. All I can say is that I am glad I wasn't there. Seriously, at times civil protest is a necessary thing, look to the Civil Rights Movement, or the March on Washington for LGBTQ+ Rights. But what we just saw was just embarrassing. Have a good day, Ryan. Peace
The two French people: and you call this a protest? Lol No but fr, what were they protesting about, they just look like a bunch of people making noise on the side of the road! I only know that from cartoons and slapstick, never seen it irl .. Is it to protect the lawn or just to gain a few inches? Greetings from the Netherlands (were we unfortunately get more Americanized by the day)

12:36 Ryan's best comment. 😂 I had to laugh quite a bit, but the concept of almost unlimited freedom of speech is correct and important, despite the enormous tolerance that one must have for it.🤪
7:20 exactly - the total exception happens, but only around the white house etc. .... ah, by the way: the head of this clown troupe will be president of the usa next year.
That old guy had no clue what he was protesting, freedom of speech doesn't mean you can insult put down another human being reguards race colour or religion. Circumcision could be a religious thing also needed for health reasons.
Insults (including racist insults) are not a violation free speech law in the US. Obviously, if you harassed someone with insults you could be arrested for harassment. Almost all speech is permitted except *imminent threats of violence.*
The french guy is wrong about one thing: that speech would be perfecty legal over here in Europe. It's just...he'd be laughed off (not to mention a person holding such speach would have to count with getting a few punches right after finishing it. Regardless of that being bluntly illegal).
I understand it´s kinda scary to visit the states. Just all these thoughts like what happens if you´ve an accident? will you get broke cause the costs? There are (statistics) 120 rifles per 100 people. IN the UK as example 1 rifel per 17 people. So will i get shot by any random angry guy? Protests in London that happen often are way more challenging to watch. It shouldn’t be entertaining to see protesters. But recent events in the UK, some very close to me in the north east England make me feel sick. Murder is not an over-statement. We don’t have guns but our protests often result in conflict, sometimes not a safe outcome.
Am I the only one in this comments section who’s lived in the US his whole life (24 years and counting) but never seen a gun in a public setting? Don’t get me wrong, I consider myself a gun control advocate and it is a problem but I’ve still never seen a gun outside a place like a shooting range. Maybe it’s because I’ve always lived in blue states that tend to have more restrictions
theres a thin line between using freedom of speech or conducting hatespeech, we take hate speech pretty serious in Europe. If you are rallying people against other people with a mehapphone, like democrats vs republicans... its hatespeech.
Under your current First Amendment jurisprudence, hate speech can only be criminalized when it directly incites imminent criminal activity or consists of specific threats of violence targeted against a person or group.

Free speech is one thing but incitement to hate and racism and violence is another thing completely as all civilised countries know.
I went to US in 2012 when I was 18, it was quite a surreal experience to see people walk around armed, definitely felt unsafe at times.
I can't imagine how it is now.
Worse...
Proud to be an european, born and living here!Case closed!🫵🤗
We can reassure ourselves cheaply by watching videos of Americans staging their conceptions of "freedom of speech" in a ridiculously folkloric way, but that does not protect us from the real problem of demagogy in Europe which is gradually distilling violent political discourse.
Great quote from Ryan "Freedom of speech can make me sometimes speechles".
As a french, i think it's missing cars burning and fireworks 😂
I visit my sister in Texas. Her neighbour was shooting his gun in a residential neighbourhood in his backyard. Cops did nothing. On the way to Arkansas we drove by a shooting scene in a small town. And drove by a cop shooting in Arkansas. My visit was 3 weeks. When I go to US, I can never totally relax with all these guns around, out in the open.
I think it's not just the guns. It's also that so many of them totally lack self control and have severe anger issues.
You know things have gone really really bad when the French turn up to laugh at you...😂😂
there's something american are the best at: turning everything into a show... Politics, sports, news etc...
Grifters every last one of them.
They are the laughing stock of the world.
The people at Walmarts or schools and concerts used to say it would never happen to them at those places, as well...
I guess Ryan has never watched Law & Order (any of them, whether original or spinoff).
But mostly in America!
Ryan is not of the brightest.
And you can cuss on TV, even in front of children, which is heavily censored in the US.
@@futurefox128Not strictly true at least here in the U.K. We have a "nine o'clock watershed" where programming leans more in the direction of adults where yes there are very few (if any limits) on what can be said. 👍🇬🇧
As you certainly know, there is no "European freedom of speech." Every country sets its own laws, and as such, they vary.
With freedom comes responsibility.
Freedom of cringe.
I watched for two minutes. Glad I’m Canadian ✌🏻🇨🇦
I would never ever step into the US, not even for holidays or vacation....
The government where I live has a travel warning to the USA.
@@stevemcgowen same in my country
People are scared of coming to Australia because of the wildlife. But people are scared of going to the U.S. because of the people. Give me giant spiders any day.
@@stevemcgowen Same in my country. A mild warning, but a warning still.
But I'd go there (already did) still. Just know it's a freaky place and know how to behave to not get in trouble and you should be perfectly fine.
Just keep in mind it's neither as save, nor as free, as it is in likely your country and it is a bit police-statey.
@@amygone2pot there are just so many deadly creatures in australia lol.
Freedom of speech ends when it violates the freedom or rights of others. Discriminating, racist and homophobic speech definitely does that.
I'm sorry Ryan but for many of us in Europe, USA is a "clownshow, a spectacle to look at"
One thing that astonishes me about the US, is that there is no sense of shared values common in other countries.
13:15 Hey, that's our former USA correspondent from Danish TV2, Mr. Jesper Steinmetz.
I have a velcro Canadian flag patch I put on my backpack carryon when I'm out and about. Trying to explain how US America could elect someone like trumph was too tiring the first time. Now I just say I am Canadian.
I don't think you're fooling anybody. Not anyone who's met any Canadians, anyway.
Those who take advantage of Canadian privilege (in this case, to be viewed favorably in foreign countries) without understanding the responsibilities owed in return (to behave as a polite guest, in this case) are known as "Canadians of Convenience."
It's actually not hard to trip them up.
@@lethfuil That's the idea, but with so many doing it, they don't really fool too many people.
@@howardhales6325 Have you met many Canadians? The Canadian accent you hear on tv and movies is specific to certain areas. People in Windsor, Ontario, for instance have the same non midwest accent I have- which is none at all.
Nice Video, it is always a pleasure to see the similarities and differences between us and eu, like cousins that are quirky but veryy similar. Also you can tell them stuff they should clean up and they agree but obv they also have their own lives and difficulties ❤
Have an Awesome Day Ryan and all the humans right here ❤❤
5:13 As a Canadian the only person I known to have been shot or been shot and died was a bartender that went to America for vacation. He was mugged and shot walking through a park in America. Yeah… I’m not going to America just because of the guns.
There was a speech given by a member of parliament in Ottawa two days ago, which I think you may find interesting. NDP member Charlie Angus addressed the repeated Trump threats and insults to Justin Trudeau.
Loved that speech. He hit every point perfectly and WITHOUT lies.
Freedom of speech should not include racist slurs hate speech and inciting hatred and violence That’s not your right What about the rights and safety
If the peopke your inciting hatred and violence
Against ?!? They have the right to safety and respect And if that’s Freedom?!?! That’s what freedom looojs like to Americans?!?! Help?!?!
"Freedom of Speech could sometimes leave you speechless"
You could put that on a t-shirt!
In Europe your freedom stops when it starts information on other peoples freedoms/rights. So it's my right to not be insulted because of my race or sexuality. I rather have the right to not be insulted than the right to insult others. It's like "don't go to others what you don't want to be done to yourself" is a law.
Yep - gun violence us usually in isolated places like SCHOOLS
Everytime I hear American's mention anything to do with politics, I keep hearing the same thing" it's entertaining" I really am confused as to American's treating politics the same way as a movie , no wonder you elect criminals into your highest office, why do you do it ???
This whole interaction really reminded me of the book I'm Starting to Worry About This Black Box of Doom by Jason Pargin.
It's full of the absurdities of America.
The freedom to spout hatred ? How lucky you are !!!!
I'd be embarrassed too, and probably ashamed...
Wow - noticed Danish TV2’s (then) USA-correspondent reporting at 13:15.
The old circumcision guy is the real MVP here
What a shame history wasn't made and the loathsome man that is Trump was not locked up.
These people all seem to be crazy... Nobidy listens, everyone is singing or shouting. In Europe this would happen in a psychiatric Hospital ..
I'm Aussie and I love my pre-bled pinner.
And so do others 😂
Thanx mum & dad ♥️
this is actually allowed in most countries.
but just a lot less crazy people are driven to do so.
they have public speaking areas usually called open forums but because so little people do this they do not even know it exists in their country.
We have Speaker's Corner in London. Anyone can grab a milk crate and go and rant about whatever they like.
I mean, it's London, so there's people ranting in the streets anyway, but that's the place for airing your views.
I really don't know what's going on, but I did have a good laugh!

BTW: 😵💫
1. many other countries have FREEDOM. It is not solely a US-thing! 🤣
and as MAGA comes to 'rear it's ugly head', I'm betting that most of the world, will be more free than US citizens!!
2. there's a huge difference between free speech/hate speech!
Free speech is good.
Use it as a sounding board, to measure the joy or displeasure concerning politics, social inequalities etc...
Hate speech, which involves a 'rally' to do evil, to harm or do violence upon others, should be illegal!
- and is in most other countries around the world 😉
hello from Denmark 🌸
That lot of people outside the courthouse should be called the Barmy army.
This would drive me nuts after two minutes of being there watching. Hell.
Oh course the French guy wasn't scared. Have you ever seen a demonstration in France?
14:16 even the microphone had enough 😂Yep tbh there are clowns like that everywhere in world, but for some reason only in USA they are allowed to spew that nonsense in public.
Honestly calling them mentally ill is actually insult for most of mentally ill people (myself included) to be group in with THAT.
If you've seen some of the recent French riots, that doesn't seem unsafe at all. It's more like a silly rally.
@@barriehull7076 'putting your foot in your mouth' is a very pictorial phrase. I like it 😄
Most impressive thing in this video is most certainly the sudden "ban circumsision" guy 🤣. Like... What are you doig there? Although he is right... 😅
Oh, and the French guy speaking English. Amazing! I'm Belgian. Half of my country speaks French (I'm Dutch speaking). Hardly met anyone speaking or understanding English there...
So gun violence is not expected in touristy places ?
Right😂? What a joke.
I always find it hilarious that a lot of people's response to something/someone they don't agree with is to chant "USA USA". It's about as cringe as it gets lol

Have you ever seen French street protests? Wow!
Ask yourself what kind of country allows people to publicly demean others because of their skin tone, their sexual orientation, their disabilities, or their lack of a home, none of which is in their control. That is not a place I would want to live.
Ur freedom ends where my begins... Simple. A lot of "free speech of everything" folks should learn that ...
Peace
The two French people:
and you call this a protest? Lol
No but fr, what were they protesting about, they just look like a bunch of people making noise on the side of the road! Also I love that half of the people there are there just because they were passing by, they saw that mess and decided to see what was going on😂😂

Cannot wrap my head around that 'Murrica only has two political parties.
12:36 Ryan's best comment. 😂
I had to laugh quite a bit, but the concept of almost unlimited freedom of speech is correct and important, despite the enormous tolerance that one must have for it.🤪
I think someone else was playing the police siren trying to drown out the music lol....
I wish i could have muted the video you were watching without muting you 🙂

7:20 exactly - the total exception happens, but only around the white house etc. .... ah, by the way: the head of this clown troupe will be president of the usa next year.
That old guy had no clue what he was protesting, freedom of speech doesn't mean you can insult put down another human being reguards race colour or religion. Circumcision could be a religious thing also needed for health reasons.
Insults (including racist insults) are not a violation free speech law in the US. Obviously, if you harassed someone with insults you could be arrested for harassment. Almost all speech is permitted except *imminent threats of violence.*
@user-wc8fp4cx6c it is here in the uk
The french guy is wrong about one thing: that speech would be perfecty legal over here in Europe. It's just...he'd be laughed off (not to mention a person holding such speach would have to count with getting a few punches right after finishing it. Regardless of that being bluntly illegal).

"It's freedom of speech ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ " - David Goodenough.
As an American what do you think about Luigi Mangione ?
As an observation it reminds me of the wild West .
The last years who showed how "nice" guests are welcome like that woman in the NY subway yelling at German tourists cause they speak German or whenever i hear a Karen tell someone to go where they come from. Theweird things you got in your food which are poison and forbidden in many other places. There are so many things that might make someone choose an other deestination for vaccation. I´m not up to offend. Just being honest why i wouldn´t like to visit the States.
😂 love it
Protests in London that happen often are way more challenging to watch.
I don’t feel unsafe coming to the USA. But then again, I only camp in Montana.
theres a thin line between using freedom of speech or conducting hatespeech, we take hate speech pretty serious in Europe. If you are rallying people against other people with a mehapphone, like democrats vs republicans... its hatespeech.
These people pushing and shoving remind me of the school playground.
Freedom of speech is so over rated. I'm glad we have our own version of that that's much less offensive to everybody.
Under your current First Amendment jurisprudence, hate speech can only be criminalized when it directly incites imminent criminal activity or consists of specific threats of violence targeted against a person or group.
As someone who has dealt with actual mental health issues i have to say i do not claim these clowns...
Idiocracy was a foreshadowing.
It's ok. This is nothing compared to how they act on social media.
