Akram Khan teamed up with the celebrated talents of Anish Kapoor and Nitin Sawhney to present his company’s first full-length evening work twelve years ago. “Hindu Gods, black holes, Indian time cycles, tablas, creation and destruction” were the starting points for this work in 2002. Danced by a strong international cast of performers, Kaash (Hindi word for “if only”) continued Akram Khan’s quest to build bridges between the worlds of contemporary dance and the Indian classical dance form Kathak.

Just saw the revival version of this piece tonight, in Dallas, and it was mind-blowing. This video doesn't give very much of an impression of how powerful and intense the performance was. Some difference in casting and costumes, and apparently even in choreography, according to information given at the talk after the performance. The three women and two men were simply incredible in their physical mastery of such intricate, demanding choreography and just killer, almost non-stop movement. Very diverse dance/movement backgrounds from the dancers. Now I want to learn/see everything I can from Akram Khan and his collaborators.
I saw this yesterday in my hometown Zwolle. It was performed by Introdans: o u t s t a n d i n g!!!!

+Coregrafa Sorina I'm not an authority, but I think the music has the same name as the dance piece (KAASH), as they were created collaboratively. The composer is named Nitin Sawhney, and the piece uses human speech (some played backwards), among other elements~incredible rhythmic percussion, very aggressive and thrilling.
