Ideally no, they shouldn’t be the exact same because they solve different problems. The page title is for your website users, the SEO Title is for people considering clicking on your page from search results. They will likely be very similar but most of the time they’re different bc the SEO title has a character limit & it needs to be more enticing.

Aw yay I’m glad it was helpful! The “SEO keyword” should be whatever word combo / phrase that you’re targeting on your page. Ideally each page on your website that you want showing up on Google should target a different, yet relevant SEO keyword. We def don’t want to target the same keyword on every page or product tho bc you’ll shoot yourself in the foot with SEO results. Hope that helps! Thank you for explaining this in a simple and effective way Can you please guide how to create different meta descriptions if i've multiple products with a single distinguishing factor as cover page (e.g. handmade paper notebook, all the features are same except the cover.) Will Google reduce my SEO score as 95% of the SEO title and Meta description is same for a number of products? Please guide.
You can have similar meta data, just not identical. So depending on the situation, some times only changing a few words is good enough! Hopefully that helps. ☺️

Yeah we have to be enticing & honest about what's on the page, and we have to make sure our target SEO keyword is inside the meta description if possible. Crafting a good one is kind of a work of art bc we want it to pack a punch but we only have 155-160 characters lol the SEO eBook for this dives into more best practices too! Hopefull that helps :)

Hello great video, i just want to ask something how many days it took till the meta descriptions change on the google search engine? i changed mine 2 days ago and still shows the same on google search.. Thanks!
Thank you! Google doesn’t tell us lol sometimes it’s a few hours, sometimes it’s a few days, sometimes Google won’t use our custom one at all and will use their own. It’s a pain in the butt lol

Mariah, Can I place a call to action word in the Title? Such as (Buy Here! My Product). I have it in the descriptions and it has shown up, (Order Here! My Product) and words like that but they dont show in the title... What do you think about that call to action phrase in the title?
It depends. You can always try it but Google might change your title and not show it lolol I wouldn’t include an exclamation point though bc it can feel spammy. I’d try to infuse the action word into the text more, like “Buy Gold Hoop Earrings” vs “Buy Here!”
Mariah I’ve found this and other tutorials on SEO so helpful. I have a question please I hope you don’t mind answering. I noticed on the example you showed with the About Page, that this site had text in the description there. I have all my text for the About Page in another area, namely Online Store > Themes and going to the About Page that way where you can format it beautifully. The area where your example site had text was in Online Store>Pages which is where of course you can complete the Meta title and Meta description. My question is do I need text there too in the page description window? If I do add anything there it’s not shown anywhere in the storefront. So I’m confused as to why it’s there. Hope that doesn’t sound too complicated. Thank you 🙏
Hey Peter, good question. So all of this totally depends on your theme and layout and how it’s set to populate the information on the front end of the page. Some themes use the native “About Page” box for this. Other themes use more customized & dynamic page editors to populate the page content. Doesn’t really matter. But the SEO Title & meta description that you put on the native page, is what will usually show up on Google, (unless your theme customized that, but I’ve never seen that.) So it’s usually one or the other, native page box, or theme customizer section. Sometimes it’s even a combo of both. But if you’re putting things in the native box and it’s not showing on the front end, you prob need to use the customizer option (aka edit your theme). Hopefully that helps!

Hi Mariah, thank you for a great and clear video. But i'm still stuck with a problem... I changed my meta description in preferences, but in Google itself its still a totaly diffrent tekst showing up. Do you have any idea what the problem could be?
You can resubmit the page URL in Google search console, to invite Google to recrawl. If that doesn’t work, sometimes it’s out of our hands. Google will sometimes show its own version of a meta description bc it think it’s more helpful for users in search. It’s frustrating but I’ve run into that a few times on my own site.

Sometimes Google won’t show your custom meta description and it will choose to show its own version. I’d check to see when the page was last crawled to see if it’s showing an old version or to assume it’s showing it’s own version.

Yeah each page that you want showing up in Google should have it’s own customized SEO title & meta description. (Never the same as another page if we can help it). And those two pieces of meta data should reflect the content on the individual page, and include the target keyword. Even changing up a few words can be helpful so they’re not duplicate of another page. I have an ebook that walks you through how to customize them. I made it from preference i put metatitle and metadescription in the home, but it didn't show in the HTML
Sometimes you have to clear your cache or wait a bit for it to show up. If it’s still not showing up, reach out to your theme developer and ask them. That’s what I would do! Hope that helps.
I have a shopify.. but I am told my theme doesn't have H1 Heading tag.. do you have a video on how to do this?
Unfortunately the only way to fix that is to adjust the code in your theme itself, which may require a developer. Or getting a new theme 😭 there MAY be an app for Shopify that you can use, but you’d have to do some research to find out.

Totally depends on what it is! Usually Amazon titles are optimized for the Amazon platform. Optimizing for Google can be a little bit more nuanced. As long as the SEO title & meta descriptions stay within the character limit, include the target keyword, are enticing to click (yet honest), you could always try it!
How do I make the keywords bold in the description?
You don’t. If words in the meta description align with the keywords from the search query, they’ll be bolded. But we have no control over it. Has to do with the search itself. Hopefully that helps!

Honestly, that’s a great question! I’ve never had to consider that so I’m not sure. I’d reach out to Shopify support and ask if you can’t see it in any support docs. And then let me know lol bc I’m curious

I changed it a few times In shopify homepage and meta description section but its not updating on google. Kindly help
By changing it in Shopify doesn’t automatically update it in Google results. You’ll have to wait until Google recrawls your website in order to see changes take place. You can try resubmitting your page in Google Search Console. And then keep in mind Google might still show its own version in search results. Hopefully that helps!

Currently, my shop name appears before my homepage title. I notice that this is also the case for the shop you present in the video.
In an attempt to improve the SEO of my homepage, I want to find a technical solution so that the name of my shop appears after the title of my homepage.
I don't want to delete the name of my store but just change its display for Google results.
I tried to add the name of my shop after the title of my homepage in the backoffice but it is not taken into account by Google.
I also tried to modify the code of my theme.liquid file but these modifications unfortunately have no impact: the name of the shop always appears first, before the title of my homepage. The first words of my homepage title correspond to my main keyword for SEO, which is why I would like them to appear first instead of my shop name which is less relevant for SEO.
Do you have a technical solution to this problem?
Hi! I’m not sure I understand where you’re talking about. The SEO Title on the backend of shopify? Or how the results shows up on Google before/after the SEO title is changed? Or are you referring to something else? Feel free to give me a time stamp in the video where you’re seeing it as an example on this video!
@@MrFlo2282 Ahhhh okay okay cool. SO, unfortunately, even IF we customize the SEO title & meta description, it's up to Google if they want to use it OR if they have a "better way" to showcase this information that they think will drive better results & more clicks. So it's essentially up to Google at the end of the day what they show, which can be frustrating. The other thing to keep in mind is that your custom SEO title & meta description will not automatically update in Google once you update them in the backend of Google. There's some lag time. You might need to resubmit the page URL to Google in Google Search Console (which I explain in another video how to do). And even then it will still take time to update and show. Hopefully knowing all that, it helps ease your frustration a bit!
