@@natureleague You're very welcome. I think it's important to take the time to recognize your efforts explicitly , though we might not all do it as much as we should (myself included).
Really sad USA wasn't there. But really glad this was a pretty large event with plenty of motivated counties. This will be hard, and harder still if we don't work together. This completely flew under the radar for me.
Thank you, Brit! I remember one of the livestreams you did not too long ago that involved going over all those goals specifically regarding this meeting. And why didn't the US just ask you to be the rep? The Chinese government is really hard to trust because of some of the extreme human rights violations they do not even acknowledge as happening. As well as tensions being high between our two governments. I just find it ludicrous that the citizens of our countries essentially suffer as a result of a handful of government officials. I really, really hope we can at least meet some of the 2030 goals when they are set? I try to do what I can at home and on a local level, and my city has lots of green space as well as the Arnold Arboretum which is one of my favorite places to go. But, it really feels like the environment has taken a backseat. I completely understand why but this pandemic should have sparked more conversation about how these zoonotic transmissions can threaten our entire species. This was a great recap and I'm hoping we have a much better conference for the 2030 goals!
Thanks so much for watching and for doing your own local part. One thing that really struck me throughout the summit is how impossible it feels to discern a country talking themselves up and a country reporting things they're actually doing. We shall see :)
this was so interesting to hear! thank you! although, I hope there was also talk of actual policy and plans of action, and not just speeches with nothing to back them up... sadly, as you said, with conservation it seems that everyone agrees it is important but no one is actually willing to sacrifice anything for it because it isn't in line with anyone's short term goals (in the countries/ corporations levels rather than individuals that is) personally, I think that if one big influential country were to take it upon itself to set the example and do as much as possible for conservation and the climate- even at a great political/financial cost, perhaps that would set a much needed precedent that others would later follow- even if to lesser degrees, or only when things get really dire... also, on a much more positive note, Jane is the best, and I'm sending her love!
Hey quick q... Was that class undergrad or grad level? I'm applying to UM for grad school next year for master's in environmental science and this sounds like something I'd totally be into
@@jamiestudebaker274 Undergrad...awesome course, but made for gen ed level and is basically an introduction to many topics. That said, there are plenty of fascinating grad-level courses here at UM as well :)
Thank you so much for covering this, as it definitely got lost in the onslaught of media topics the past few weeks!
I'm really glad to have access to this kind of information. I really appreciate the time you put into this channel, Brit.
Thanks so much- I plan to keep it up as best as I can 💙🦈

Amazing summary, great content. As a biology student I really appreciate you covering the summit. It needs more attention than it gets.

If Seppoland was at the meeting. They would probably just get in the way. Just like with the COP climate summits.
I love your cat💕🐱🐈
Hopefully the US WILL be represented now the administration has changed ...!
Australian government. How much coal can we sell without everyone getting angry at us.
Torties gonna tort!
Truer words have not been spoken 😂
What! Are you saying America should contribute to this ongoing failure? Scrap it and start over for the love of biodiversity.
