  • In this Episode I'll be exploring the abandoned Joliet Correctional center campus. This prison is a historical masterpiece and it was an absolute blast being able to uncover all of the buildings inside the complex.
Joliet correctional center once housed hundreds upon hundreds of the worst inmates in the state. The intimidating architecture leaves such an eerie presence in the surrounding neighborhoods. Security has been stepped up since the filming of this video. Cameras, security, and police patrols have been implemented to protect this dangerous building from any future intruders.

I was there from 1991-2000 worked in the laundry (PC) and then the mattress shop (Gen POP) played piano in the chapel - which was in the video...... highlight of 1994 was the "lifer" organization ordering us burritos from some fast food place in joliet. everyone got a ice cold (by the time we got it delivered to our cells) was so good - it sold for 20 packs of cigs if you wanted to trade for it, which i did. people who ate the burrito all throw up about 3-5 hours after eating it.... everyone throwing up! in 95 or 96, they put in a guardtower in the middle of the cellhouse..... exposing everyone to the ice cold JAN temps - i was not in a gang - so i got the choice cell in front of the PLASTIC tarp for protection from the cold as they were building it..... and going to pee in the morning, you peed on SOLID ICE in the toliet - that was how cold it was..... then seeing someone get knifed for supposedily stealing someone else's chicken ramen noodle - which we could not cook - used warm tap water to soften the noodles - it was HIGH LIVING SATURDAY NIGHT when you had a ramen noodle! Then on lockdown - everyone throwing opened cartons of milk on the gallery - and the guards letting it sit till it gets spoiled - the smell sooooo bad - and when i developed a blood clot in my leg - and walked 2 blocks inside the penitentiary to see a doctor who then made me walk back. 2 weeks later confirmed blood clot. and the riot where - while in my locked cell - i saw 2 gangs go after one another down the gallery - - 20-30 guys, with makeshifts knifes and wearing magazine chest protectors like armor for the battle then the guy who succeeded and committed suicide by wrapping himself in plastic wrap and lighting himself up (back when matches/cigs were allowed) yes, so many scary memories - yet I survived and doing well

This is honestly one of the most interesting stories I've ever heard. It's amazing to hear from somebody who actually stayed in this place. I could probably ask you questions all day long, truly amazing. I'm glad to see you're doing okay!! Thank you so much for reaching out, sounds like this place was quite hostile. Appreciate you, have a great day, sir.

JCC I was an inmate there in 1986 R & C. A totally different world from now days. I can remember the officers walking around in the chow hall with plastic garbage bags to keep us from spattering them with butter pallets good times what I was restricted to seeing anyone family or anyone. It took a psychological toll but I endured Joliet 0 Reno 1 😜👍🏽life had some balance but then again, you’re not supposed to like prison👍🏽

Well it wasn't too bad. The main building had entire floors collapsed because of water so we really had to watch our footing. The prison cells were rock solid, those are probably going to be sitting for hundreds of years if humans don't take them down. It was wild being inside those walls, 20-30 feet tall. It's a really odd experience, one way in one way out. As of 3/3/2017 I wouldn't recommend visiting Joliet because they began installing security systems to catch trespassers. Cameras and motion alarms are being setup through the complex. This was filmed early Feb.
