Canal FREEZES SOLID! Downsides of Winter on a Narrowboat | Warming up in Hardcastle Tunnel - 406

Today we wake up to a beautiful, but cold! Winter wonderland. Thankfully through, the canal didn't freeze outside the boat and thanks to the locks between here and the Harecastle tunnel, the canal is frozen. But past the tunnel, is another question, as there are no locks along the top pound of Trent and Mersey as it meanders our Stoke on Trent, but how far will we make it past the Creepy yet warm Harecastle Tunnel? Well not very far at all, so where have to spend the weekend, next to the south portal of the tunnel. Thankfully some milder weather comes in and the canal thaws by Monday, my birthday. So we head all the way to Hazlehurst aqueduct on the Caldon canal, but not without issue, we reach a lift bridge, that, well won't lift...

Fantastic drone footage again Josh. Fascinating to see on top of Harecastle tunnel. So many tunnels under that hill, two railway and two canal. Those frozen ropes can’t be much fun to undo even with a kettle of hot water. Hope the van sales through the MOT after all your hard work inside. There are some rogues about. Take care. 🌻
