Tbh as a pet store cashier, you’re going to want to be really knowledgeable in all things pet care. Usually pet parents come up to me out of all associates because i’m the first face they see in the store, so that’s one thing to consider :)
Thank you for the reassurance that I don't have to be a "know it all".
Been working pet retail for about 15 years now and this is honestly one of the best videos I've seen on subjects like this.
Ty for speaking ab this! I’ve been looking at a job at a petstore for a while now
I may be 12 and I may apply once I'm 18 just because the animals are cute, but the biggest reason I wanna apply is because I've already done research, learned some sicknesses, and I have experience with reptiles, small animals, dogs, and cats :)
That's great! Doing as much research as you can will give you the greatest tool in animal care, knowledge! Keep shooting for the stars!
You could apply as soon as you turn 16 although I wouldn’t recommend it, I’m turning 16 by the end of this month and sent an application 3 weeks ago. I’m about to call them rn to see if there are any updates or if it’s been viewed yet
@@Jim_Wooldid you ever here back? Ik a lot of places just never call or update and I just applied😭
@@Phrogu3it’s best if you call the store a couple days after applying online and asking if they got your application. they usually don’t look through their applications until they NEED a new associate. but once you call, they’ll likely ask you to come in to interview!
thank you for posting this i am looking into working at petbarn as my first job and this vid rlly helped me out
i'm looking into a small, local pet supply store that mainly sells cat and dog products and does not house any animals. not all of these points may apply to my situation but it was still very helpful. Thank you very much, very informative and you seem very kind.
This is an underrated video and I appreciate you!! Have my interview in 3 hours and I’m stressing!! 😳
Good luck!
How did it go?
I work at a Pet Valu in Canada and I can’t count how many customers come in with problems like “My dog has kidney failure..,” and “My cat has a giant cut on his leg..” expecting us to give them an answer only a vet would be able to provide. I’ve had people call our store and over the phone ask me to diagnose their cats wound or infection! Most people understand that there is only so much we can help them with but some don’t always grasp the concept..
Overall, this job has been one of the best and most rewarding experiences I’ve ever had. Great video, thanks!
Hello! i am planning to apply in Pet valu Canada as well. my hobbies are zoology and i've had various pets before like dogs, rabbits and also exotic ones like spiders and scorpions. i'm not sure if it's enough experience to get into pet valu. what i'm worried about is people coming in asking for things i don't know about. do you have a tip?
As long as I don’t have to do anything with spiders/tarantulas I can deal with everything else🤣
I got offered a job bc I didn’t mind doing that
you'd have to no matter what. don't apply for the job if you aren't comfortable handling the animal.
That’s my worse fear. I have orientation in 2 days at Petsmart, I applied there without knowing they have a tarantula and now I don’t know what to do 😨
krispy K’s incorrect, they allow you to work with animals you’re only comfortable with
I'm the same way with dogs. I think dogs are fu ckin gross and stupid animals, I don't want anything to do with them.
I work at a pet store and I love it!! The only thing I hate doing at work is getting crickets 🤢. We are so close to getting our new leopard geckos and beardies. Right now we just have kittens [from local shelter] and betas.
Off topic but your voice is really really nice I actually listened for the whole thing 🏃🏽♀️
Aww thank you!
My friend got me a job at a local pet store I'm so exited
How’s it been so far!
@@luism8612 they barely give me hours I like the work it's just I only work once a week especially with mothers day around the corner I feel so stressed cuz I'm broke I like working there because I'm good at it and they put my school schedule 1st but at the same time I only work once a week and I like more to do you know?
@@Alan-garci r you still working there?
well said! great tips! looking forward to more care sheets :)
I am 16 working in a pet store. Yes a pet store. Is wonderful. Wonderful people but it is important to knowledge to know everything {well not everything}
Some of my coworkers are fish expert so someone ask I always tell them I can being a friend cause he knows! And me begin a nerd for rodents I know a lot lol. Is fun but definitely for me is 100% good job. Only bad side is sad to see your favorite pet to get sent home!
can i ask what the interview questions were like?
@@what-qo4yl have you worked with animals before. Have you been around with animals. What school you go too (depending age) . That's what I remember
Great video! Happy I found your channel!
I was thinking about finding myself a job at a local pet store. I have a dog and I was thinking about getting myself a reptile eventually at some point, specifically a pet lizard. I already applied to at least two different pet stores one here where I'm staying with one of my close aunts and her side of the family for awhile. And the other pet store is in one of the neighboring towns which I have to take either the bus or train to get there.
Love this video. You are a big help!
it would be nice to get a job in one but i never get to
I actually put in a application at pets smart for stocking .
i have an interview in a hour gonna cancel 🥰
Thank you so much
Is there a position where all I do is stock or would I be put to do something else?
When you go in for an interview, do they give you the option to choose which animals you work with? For instance, if I were scared of fish or allergic to cats, would I get to choose whether I work with them or not?
Hello! Most companies/stores will respect your needs and modify your job around them. I know the company I worked at had unofficial on paper, but known to the team and customers, "leads" of certain animal groups. I had the most experience with amphibians & reptiles so I handled them while someone else did ferrets. One guy was allergic to guinea pigs so he was never expected to clean them. Other companies have official "heads" of certain animal groups and you are not allowed to work with other animals etc. If you are in an interview and they seem iffy about accommodations that is kind of a HUGE red flag to not work at that location in my opinion.
@@Hoppin_Help Alright, thanks for the help!
@@rowan0331 Of course!
And btw they cut your hours if your cashier if you don't get people to sign up ..
🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂😀😀😀 Love that video she watch it today
0:50 I didn't know people did that I just want to know which pet store would be best for me (I'm in australia and where I live has three pet stores (pets domain petbarn petstock) if you have a recommendation lemme know) 2:07 my goal is to be a vet so atleast I will be prepared lol
I’m used to my previous hamsters peeing on me thousands of times
She is so cute ❤
watching this 3 months in 💀
how is it so far💀
I assume not as expected😅
Give me a second! I’ll google it🙂
Is it true pet die there ? Overcrowded animals how much do they pay a hour?
Hello! I have noticed in chains like Petco and Petsmart that overcrowding can be an issue. I have another video regarding why educated pet people should work at these stores to help correct improper policies if you would like to give it a watch here: ruclips.net/video/RCx2uY5V9vY/видео.html
Pay usually starts at minimum wage but many stores have opportunities for raises through educational courses + how long you have worked there!
It kinda makes me mad when I go to petco for fish supplies and they have people who have no idea what there talking about and half the time I have to teach them when there the workers 😡
Do you expect minimum wage workers to teach themselves? Blame the company/ management not the workers
@@ansnfbsknanssshshbsnsndnd5438 I see what ur saying but they shouldn’t work In the aquatics department if they don’t know what they’re talking about very frustrating
@@FrozenFlameYT_ to be fair. At my work there isn't even an aquatics department. It's just store associate. So if I just happen to be picking out dead fish or cleaning the tanks people assume I'm an expert
@@ansnfbsknanssshshbsnsndnd5438 that’s fair but I have talked to employees who pretend to be experts
@@FrozenFlameYT_ true, I low ale about fish, but definitely not an expert and when I don't know something I tell them
This is the only job I’d do for minimum wage. I just want the knowledge.
