- Rotator cuff tears are a common. The best rotator cuff surgery is with an arthroscopic approach. The traditional rotator cuff surgery done without the arthroscope is slows and limits your recovery. At Phoenix Spine and Joint all our rotator cuff repair surgeries are done through an arthroscope. If a surgeon tells you that traditional surgery is needed it’s a good idea to get a second opinion.
The goal for weeks 6-12 after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair is to return normal range of motion to you shoulder. This is done with several exercises. Repeat each movement (exercise) 10-15 times, rest, then do the repetitions again 2 more times for a total of 3 sets of 10-15 movements for a total of 30-45 movements.
Sleeper stretch. Lay on your side and gently push the arms closest to the floor downward. Avoid putting pressure on your hand, this will just move your wrist. This movement helps restore internal rotation of your shoulder.
External rotation. Hold the door with your hand and gently rotate your body. This causes your shoulder to rotate your arm away from your body.
Standing Y. Face the wall, raise your hands above your head so your arms make the letter Y, and retract your shoulder blades backward. Avoid shrugging your shoulders; you want your shoulder blades to move backward and together.
Banded row. Secure a band to a door or post and hold the edges with your arms in front of you. Pull backward so your elbows bend at ninety degrees. Don’t let your arms go up or down from the ninety-degree line. Mind your form: avoid shrugging your shoulders, rounding your back, letting your chin move forward, or letting your elbows move too far behind your back.
Standing rotation. Place a rolled-up towel in your arm pit and secure a band to a chair or door. Rotate your arm inward while keeping your elbow at ninety degrees. For external rotation use your arm away from the band, tuck the towel in your arm pit, start with your hand at your belly button then rotate your arm away from your body. Mind as you get tired that you don’t turn your whole body, rotate your arm. Наука
Except there is no getting my arms in any type of Y, lol.
Great. I was looking for a little more to up my mobility and strength. These are good exercises.
Glad you like them!
I'm currently 2 weeks post op and the pain is minimal. Still unable to lay flat on my back at night ofc lol I have my first Physical Therapy appointment tomorrow though. I truly hope that by weeks 6-12, I can feel normal again.
Please upload 4 to 6 week exercises
I love how you demonstrate the exercises and also add the don’ts. Sorry if i missed something but how often do we do these?
every day.
Please upload 7_12 week exercise
Thank you for sharing this with me. Starting to feel better and these exercises are helping a lot.
Had my surgery on January 18th.
Nice to hear! Thanks for the comment.
How are you doing now? Is there 100% recovery?
@@aryendrapalsingh4131 Doing well! Just getting older and dealing with those aches and pains that come with it😊 My shoulder is feeling much better now but I am still being careful with it. My surgeon did a great job and I am very thankful for that.
I started this therapy
starting week 7 - 1 and 2 are doable.... 3? no possible way I can even get close to that position - with or without assistance? I'll try 4 and 5 with no resistance
OK. Don’t forget to check in with your doctor to make sure your surgeon feels your on schedule.
I'm looking specifically for exercises for weeks 4-6. Can you point me in the right direction?
We are missing the video. Sorry :
I am just starting this. Painful. Dr. Said soft tissue pain. Giving a band for exercises.
Have you had a post-operative x-ray? Most people are nearly pain free by in this time period.
👍
There’s NO WAY you can perform these exercises in weeks 6-12! It’s painful to lay on the surgical side for the internal rotation exercise that you shared and there’s no way you can be flat up against the wall with the effected arm in a V-shape until maybe toward the end of that time frame. Maybe next time use a real patient vs a perfectly healthy assistant.
Everyone is different. Please respect your body and follow your surgeon's direction.
You as an individual are not an accurate representation of every person rehabilitating their shoulder.
This stuff works just fine for me.
I'm at 5 weeks and can do the Y and lie on my surgical side with no problem.
I am also doing them after 5weeks post op.
Oh shut up Karen.
👍👍👍👍
Thanks!
