THIS!! Social media works for businesses that NEED social media to run. I find that social media works better with coaching businesses where people need clients to work with directly. However, product businesses (especially with small businesses) may need to find better strategies outside of social media to make sales. If they do decide to leverage social media, they will need to first and foremost build a personal brand. That's the only way to convert social media users to customers. If they don't build a personal brand, they will need to spend tons of money on ads, and many small businesses can't afford to do that.
Yes!! I've noticed that's a huge percentage of my feed now, coaching businesses or people that sell courses/digital resources. Which makes sense, they're offering an instant value add (information and freebies) without requiring people to leave the platform. Even they seem to rely so heavily on paid support though. It'll be interesting to see where the future of organic social media ends up!
Thanks for sharing this kind of content! As someone trying to launch a small batch, slow fashion business, I feel this deeply. I can either move my business forward OR post consistently on social media. Your comment about social media platforms’ goals being different than creators’ goals is spot on.
Great video! I've built our business (spa) solely on social media ads (70%) and organic social media (30%) bringing in revenue of 35k/mo (USD) with 35% margins. I agree that founders shouldn't put most of their time in growing social media, some business can't afford it. Do more of the things that has been giving you sales and only put 10% effort on new marketing channels. I suggest you don't give up on social media yet. The great thing about it is as you put in more time it becomes easier for you. It takes up probably 1 hour a day for me (just avoid the doom scrolling part lol)
That's amazing, congrats!! I definitely don't think I'll fully give up on it but you gave great advice, to just focus a fraction of time on it until I'm able to develop a social strategy that supports my other established channels. Thank you for your words of encouragement!
Many points you stated are very accurate, yet the content does have to speak with the customer who would enjoy your products and for what reason, what emotions they will feel, what it can mean for the person-sentimentality. Obviously for algorithm to connect you with the ideal buyer is going to take time. I had to remind myself that it is not about-look I made this-it’s more how the art will look on their wall, as a gift or what they are supporting by this. The elegance, coolness of having a peace… Communicating the vision of the brand, how it differentiates… honestly there can be so many nuances and depth to this-often turns my head inside out lol 😵😵 On top of it -it needs to be top notch edited 😂 Sorry if this wasn’t necessary -I just wanted to put my 2 cents on the topic
Definitely! You're right that it takes so much time to connect with the right people, it's a longterm investment that I shouldn't have expected immediate results from. But I definitely got caught up in making social media my full time job for a month rather than just having it there to support my art But this is great advice, thank you for your comment!
My friend switched to IRL. She goes to fairs and brings some art with her. Sells there and films some content from the fair. The fairs also promote her. It might not be viral but it’s more fun and social. Builds better connections. If you dislike it so much it will probably translate to the content and just make you miserable.

@@ellennelle YES!! I’m so glad someone can relate, hopefully we can both find other ways to market that don’t feel so taxing, good luck to you!
