For my money he _was_ #40 in about 2005/06, until he got complacent and let himself go. Sadly this did not go unnoticed by the supreme arbiters of comedy at Channel 4, who summarily relegated him by one. And quite right too.

I found it funny when Micheal Macintyre was robbed of his watch whilst sitting at traffic lights . I found it even funnier how he insinuated in an interview that the robber knew who he was . 😁👍
The Beeb have let anything that's good go. They are an irrelevancy in today's world. Tony Hall is driving the BBC into the ground and will eventually destroy them. He is their worst DG ever.

There is very little to laugh about in Banbury so it is a real bonus that Mr Lee has been able to make a practical contribution to the lives of everyone living nearby who've to travel in for shopping.
Cripes Classworks I saw a whole family dressed in animal based onesies making their way into Castle Quay in Banbury. While laughing at the spectacle I did feel that they had let themselves go.
6:40 "It's finished that bit, it's finished!!" I love that S.L hides so much more behind these little phrases. My guess is that, he builds his routines around themes that are continuous throughout his show, and there is a great skill in that, in leading the audience to their own conclusions before switching it up...here, he's remarking how 'observational' comedy just has throw away lines that are 'finished' as soon as they're spaffed out of the gob of the philandering coke heads.
In the list of standup where Stewart Lee finished 41st, the top 10 included Peter Kay, Harry Hill, Victoria Wood and Ross Noble. Not to disparage any of them, but if they are the top 10, then Stewart Lee should have expected to be placed at most 65th.
The, to-date, 48 people who gave this a thumbs-down .... hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Such and such has let themselves go Well done for thinking that up on your own, every single clip of Stewart Lee ever We in the comments are so funny and original

Russell Brand has been drug free since his stand up career took off, but back in the day he used to do ridiculous shows when he was drugged up and start fights with the audience and get thrown out all the time.
An underrated stand-up comedian; he's probably the 40th best ever.
