Hello, and thanks for joining us on another edition of SUMO PRIME TIME. We hope you’re getting ready for the New Year’s Tournament, because we’re only a few days away from the start of what should be another highly entertaining 15-day competition. This time, the tournament is back in Tokyo. To fully prepare you for the upcoming contest, we’re bringing you Part 3 of the Ryogoku Tour with Tomozuna Oyakata, the former Sekiwake Kaisei. In this episode, Kaisei takes charge and escorts me to numerous wonderful places in Ryogoku, known as the sumo town. We hope you watch the clip, discover how fascinating Ryogoku is, and consider visiting some of the places we introduce in the show. Please enjoy watching our Ryogoku adventure! Looking forward to seeing you again soon. Arigato as always!
Kaisei was my favorite. Not because he was the best wrestler... He wasn't. He was the most wholesome, gentle giant. He demonstrated intelligence, humor, and sensitivity at every turn. I would love to see him as a permanent presence in Sumo Prime Time.
Just goes to show that there is so much more to life than winning and losing. That being said, you have to win quite a bit to get to sekiwake. Sounds like he did just fine without being a jerk (cleaned up my language because I figured a nice guy like Tomozuna would appreciate that).
What a nice surprise to see Kaisei again! He was the most genuinely kind and considerate rikishi I've ever seen. I wish him great success in his elder career!
I think it is really cool and interesting when you meet with orher rikishi. Like now you have Tomozuna Oyakata, and you guys are telling us about sumo which we love and you are exploring. Very good 🙏🏼
I hope you continue these reports w/Kaisei for a very long time. These are nice video to watch before the start of a tournament. He's so kind and friendly - it's so easy to smile when watching! What a lovely person he seems and it's nice you bring us this side of his personality to us. Great video!
Loved, loved it Hiro. Your chemistry with Kaisei is so great. As an overseas fan, I love how you share sumo culture. One day I'd love to actually experience the places you visited on the Ryoguku tour. Attending a tournament at the Kokugikan would be amazing.
I love these walking tours with Tomozuna Oyakata/Kaisei! I remember another interview in which Kaisei definitely understood English so Hiro would ask questions in English for the audience, but Kaisei would start answering in Japanese sometimes even before Hiro translated - that's a true bilingual conversation!
When you and Tomozuna Oyakata are together, in Austria, we'd call you both "Lausbuam" which is an affectionate term for cheeky children, like "cheeky monkey" in british english. You two are never boring and always fooling around :P Thank you for another great episode!
Maybe the best episode ever! The friendly rapport between you two and the great feeling of fun made it a joy to watch. I was grinning from ear to ear and laughing out loud throughout. I’ll see both of you gentlemen in a few days in Ryogoku. Can’t wait for the tournament!
Visited the shrine in 2019 when I was staying in Sumida. I was just getting into sumo at the time and the September basho was on. Kaisei was one of my fave rikishi as I do Brazilian Jiu Jitsu - so the Brazil connection. Good to see him as oyakata
Im from Brazil. He is a gentleman. Obrigado Ricardo, valeu pela sua luta e sua posiçâo importante no Sumo mundial. Um abraço do Rio de Janeiro. Churrasco bom é brasileiro. Valeu. 😊
Your tours with Tomozuna Oyakata in the Ryogoku area brings back good memories of my last visit there. It's great to know that there are other spots to visit and will definitely do so this year! Looking forward!
@4:36 I was there in November 2023. That store is run by the most adorable elderly couple and they have so very much sumo merchandise it's easy to spend way too much money there. And I'll be doing it again in 2025.
Do they have any kind of online presence that you know of? My wife loved the pastries and such and I would love to figure out how to get some here to the states.
@@jamesmaxwell4447 no online store sadly, just a website that looks like a grandma runs it (because a grandma probably does run it). There are some sumo items available on websites like eBay, Amazon, and Redbubble for stickers and shirts. They're an older couple and Japan is still conservative about doing things online.
man I love these videos, I'd love to be able to go see sumo live one day, so its cool to be shown all these interesting spots in the area related to sumo.
Thank you, Hiro & Tomozuna San! I love the Ryogoku tour videos! I wish I could walk around the Kokugikan! Looks so much fun! In summer, I wonder if you could ride a boat in the Sumida river??? (Yakata bune?) The walk along the river looks so nice. By the way, I am excited for the Hatsubasho! 🤩🤩🤩
Absolutely amazing. OI've been to the souvenir shop that you guys visited last time & the Nominosukune shrine but that wagashi shop. Also I didn't know about the shortut to the river with kimarite on the railing, that was cool! Gonna visit both next time I'm in Japan
This was soooo nice episode ❤ i enjoy your Relaxed and comfortable togetherness, I wish one day i see live all those amazing places, I'm surprisedv( shamed almost , but im fan of small ones🤔😉) that I didn't understand that Kaisei , during his Sumo activity What a great guy he is . ARIGATO 3 DAYS TO GO TIME 🎉🎉🎉
Teru beat Kotonowaka and Kirishima lost to Kotonowaka. The odds are with Teru winning day 15. Kirishima will try to trip Teru's leg or ankle. So Terunoffugi should win by frontal push out or an under arm throw. Good luck Teru!

Why are you limping Hiro?
Kaisei should be the official co-host. He's very personable and you two have amazing chemistry together!
Right? They remind me of Bud Spencer and Terence Hill... @@jensjesfjeld6238

He was the nicest Sumo wrestler of all time!
He'd always give a hand up to his opponent and he had this "Aw shucks" look on his face when he lost.
Great sportsmanship!

Great to see the guys as ...people.
Kaisei always makes me smile. Such a sweetheart. ♥
Always good to see Kaisei!
I'd love to spend the day with Kaisei and Hiro... Heck, if I could do it, I'd move to Tokyo.
Long live this Hiro + Tomozuna/Kaisei partnership. What a delightful pair you two make!
Love these segments!
Kaisei!!!!

Kaisei's back! 😄 Thank you so much Hiro & SPT for bringing English Sumo content to viewers!! Great to see Kaisei back again!

Sempre que o Kaisei aparece eu fico feliz
I was hoping Kaisei would take Hiro to a Brazillian steakhouse one of these days! Churrasco is so good!
You mean like at 10:43 ?
These episodes with Kaisei are the absolute best!
Que legal ver o Ricardo Sugano a carne no rodízio brasileiro em pleno Ryogoku!
I feel terrible about it, but watching Hiro get flattened is hilarious no matter how many times I see it happen.
I can't help but giggle like a little school girl when Kaisei speaks English, it's so endearing :'D

Always enjoy seeing Kaisei. Definitely should be a regular co-host!
Allways happy to see Kaisei. Such a nice guy!

Great to see Tomozuna Oyakata again! I visited Ryogoku in April 2023 and visited the places from your first two videos, thank you.
kaisei bro good job😊
Sumos Odd Couple is at it again. Thanks SPT team and Tomozuna Oyakata. These episodes are always entertaining.
3:43 oh man I've never noticed this before but look how bent out of shape Kaisei's fingers are. He sacrificed so much for the sport

Kaisei looks good. He seems to be such a nice guy. I hope he accomplishes whatever he sets out to do.

So odd, I recognized feijoada in this episode, so far, I lived very near Brasil border.
I missed the sweet shop, last time. It will be on the list to visit next time!
This is one of your best series, Definitely keep doing these, ^__^

I noticed you bowed twice and clapped 4 times, isn't it usually bow twice, clap twice, bow?
I didn't know that either but the method varies from shrine to shrine
Is Hiro an M??
Watching a video like this as a Brazilian makes my heart warm, glad to see you guys enjoying some good Brazilian Barbecue!!
