    At my college (in Gernany) we have a flea market twice a year with lots of clothing for young people (because they come from students). I almost only buy my clothes there and I love it!

    I just found your channel by chance when I was googling around for stuff about simple living. What you are doing is completely awesome! Eco-friendly, non-toxic, cruelty-free and ethical fashion/makeup, plus the living with less stuff, basically reuniting in one place all I hoped to achieve as a consumer but didnt think was really doable. You're inspiring! Keep up the good work :)

    Thanks for all your help! I just saw the documentary The True Cost and I felt like I didn't get enough of an idea of things I can be doing. It's so discouraging to look at clothing that's available without having to give up eco sustainability, social justice, or style!

    • @MyGreenCloset
      @MyGreenCloset  9 лет назад

      It can be very discouraging, but fortunately there are more and more stylish sustainable and ethical options becoming available. As consumers learn more about what's going on the industry, ask questions, and search for ethical alternatives it will only grow and improve! :)
      Also I felt the same about The True Cost, while the general message of "things have to change" is important, I wish he gave some suggestions or steps viewers could take to help with that change.

    Watching this video has inspired me to buy eco & ethical clothing when replacing items in my wardrobe. Today I bought my first hemp/cotton t-shirt and it fits and feels better than any other t-shirts I have bought in the past. Can't wait for the next video :)

    Yeah. thank you so much . i was so confused about how to be more ethical and lost track on what I want to focus. Thank you . Now let me share. I try make my things last eg. sewing the button , keep similar colour cloth and sew the hole back , good that i wear lots of black . Make sure I love something, after at least 2 days(sometimes it takes two to three months if it is expensive item) if i still think about an item then I will go for it . Reuse them as clothes for cleaning or what not. 1. ebay / thift shop. 2. Local as to reduce cardon footprint and support small business and designer.
    now let me watch more videos and see what else i can do

    Great video! Thank you very much especially for the links to places to shop. I couldn't help but notice that the prices are kind of high on a lot of them, but that seems to play into the fact you made at the end of the video about contacting places and requesting that they use more ethical practices. If more places do it, it will become more affordable. Also, I've never ever thought about renting formal clothing. What a great idea! I hope you have posted a closet/wardrobe video because I will be checking that out for sure.

      Thanks! Really happy you found it helpful :)
      The prices are higher with sustainable/ethically produced clothing, but they do better reflect the "true cost" of the garment. Paying people fairly, farming sustainably, properly managing your pollution etc. all costs money and unfortunately making clothing very cheap often means cutting those corners to save money. :(

    Very good video, everything very well explained, the big problem is that i want non toxic clothes but at the same time they have to be cruelty free, I'm talking about wool which is not cruelty free I suppose. I believe that we humans we belong to the tropics (warm weather) where we can almost walk naked,so that being true the clothes we need is basically tshirts, cool jerseys, pants, shorts and shoes / slippers .. Most of them by cotton, hemp etc so in an ideal climate (tropics) will not be necessary to pluck the hair of the sheep to dress ourselves.
    I mean, cold climates is a good excuse to the fashion business

    Just found your channel and really admire your content. I'm primarily a second hand shopper and am an avid thrifter, but it's mainly motivated by cost. If I want to expand and buy new things, what's your advice for shoppers on a budget? I'm also glad you made a mention that it is up to the public and people to influence the market. I actually don't think it's unfortunate at all- it might take some time, but it allows us the power.

      ***** Really happy it was helpful! :) That's awesome you're switching to more mindful shopping! How are you finding the transition?

    • @sofiacastroluz195
      @sofiacastroluz195 9 лет назад

      So lovely that you've responded. The transition is mainly difficult when transitioning into a season because the clothes from previous seasons that I've stored away seem old and dirty and it's so tempting to get new ones. The other difficulty I have is over wearing particular items and therefore I feel tired of my clothing. I have found some eco brands and when purchasing an item, I check who made it which is really important. I have also asked relatives to not buy me any clothes. Do you have any suggestions on how to get rid of that "tired" feeling that people can have about their clothes?

    Thank you for your wonderful and informative videos! I also have a vegan question: some things made with vinyl/fake leather are labeled vegan, some are not. Is this simply a marketing thing that some brands are taking advantage of and some are not, or do some vinyl products have sneaky animal products in them? I have done some googling with contradictory results and don't want to accidentally mislead anyone...

    • @MyGreenCloset
      @MyGreenCloset  7 лет назад

      With bags and shoes I believe there's an issue with glues- a vegan product will have animal-free glues where a regular synthetic might not. It's almost impossible to get info on glues, treatments, etc. so if you want to be safe then stick to products labelled vegan as that *should* mean (to be extra safe look for certified products) there were no animal materials used in the entire production process. :)

    • @emilyschlager1341
      @emilyschlager1341 7 лет назад

      Thanks. It's actually just sheets of vinyl remnants I buy for making books that I sell, so there is no way to check up on their origin and some places online say that animal fats are sometimes used in the making of vinyl. I know the glues I use are all vegan, but I don't want to be one of the horrible people who adds to the confusion by sticking buzz words on things.

      Elena Piani I'm trying to live and dress more ethically and sustainable and thought it might be helpful to share my experiences and thoughts!
      I studied fashion design in university and ended up directing my research and projects towards 'slow fashion' after learning a lot of terrible things about the industry- I realized that things definitely need to change. So I'm not part of an organization but I'm really passionate about eco fashion, I love sharing info, learning, and connecting with like-minded people. :)

    Saying the problem is impossible and ethical shopping won't do any good is like eating junk food because it's so common. Only with the junk food, it's your body, not your soul, that gets sick.....with clothes, it's your soul...and honor. Besides your cheating some greedy corporation of a few nickels.
