I really like the cleans. The fact is, this band isn't the first to have spoken vocals in their tracks, but they pull it off amazingly well, and Joel has an amazing tone to his voice. Amazing new addition to their material, have my copy ordered.
listen to the lyrics, they are original and deep. its time for us to stop comparing. if music is sincere, heart felt, and pleasing to ones ear then why diminish it because we feel we need to get something off our chests.
I can see the comparison drawn to Dan Smith, but the spoken word aspect of this band has always been there, they didn't rip anyone off. I have an epiphany every time I listen to BAAO, it's all so beautiful.
***** I totally agree! At first it was a little weird, but after a couple of seconds of hearing the song I completely fell in love with them. I know some people might not be used to it, but I'm glad that they are trying something different. That's the only way you can grow as a band by trying new things, but as long as you don't go to overboard. I definitely see a bright future for this band!
The album's a step up from 'Dear G-d' but I swear the vocalist is just ripping off of Dan Smith from Listener when he does those spoken word bits and I can't stand that. Shame.
Yeah, more or less. But, I definitely hear more Dan Smith in his spoken verses. Aaron has a more unique meter and tone, and I don't hear this guy imitating that as readily. But then again, one could argue that Listener is just a derivation of mwY.
North House Very true. Bradley Hathaway was in that time period as well, so I'm pretty sure it's a culmination. Regardless, I'm glad there's a resurgence of actual music rather than relying on electro-pop.
Yeah, I agree. I may not be a fan of this album, but at least it's better than most of the trite material making waves these days. You can find better stuff than this band, though.
North House dude no offense but you need to get over that he copied his vocal styles from listener for all you know it could be inspiration from him I wouldn't mind seeing more bands doing spoken raw vocals it has more emotion and passion it's poetry man don't be an elitist on this type of genre they worked hard and put a lot of passion into this I'm not telling you to like it but don't try to persuade others who like this band not to
Hahahaha I'm not being an elitist man. It just honestly is way too similar to Listener's style to be any form of accident. I mean sure, take a spin off of someone else's work whom you respect, but don't make it sound so similar. Yeah spoken word is awesome, I love it. I'm not hating on spoken word itself. Some of my favorite songs are almost entirely spoken word. I'm not trying to persuade anyone to dislike these guys. Naturals is an awesome track off of this album, but I personally find it to be a little bit contrived. I mean, quite a few bands have done this stuff beforeI think Being As an Ocean has a massive amount of potential, I just want to see them really branch out and do their own thing next time around. It's just my opinion, and I can see why people love this record. I just feel like I've heard it before.

Probably their most underrated song. absolutely love it!
The arpeggio (keys/synth??) in the background during the chorus is so killer. This is an easy favorite off the new album.
It's actually guitar tapping
Nevermind it actually isn't. But that would've been cool
Agreed! that sound really got me

I have a hard time believing a single person could dislike this, but 15?? What's wrong with this world?

not really liking the clean vocals one bit
If it didn't have spoken word parts, this song would literally be perfect. Just not a fan of that vocal style
They are not for you then, cause spoken word was and always played the big part on BAAO
Im not digging this new sounds. Vocals are too choppy...
I love em man. each to their own though
the ending quite sucks...
This ain't being as an ocean
Of course it is, can't you read the title of the video?
It is. Stop being a bigot.
