if anyone wishes to see more live footage of their drummer connor, feel free to check out the drum cams we have done with him! amazingly talented drummer
+Tylor Pack the fact is, most of the people here don't know what it takes to drum the way connor does. they have no idea how gifted he is. I'd much rather watch a drummer play what he's feeling at that moment than restrict themselves.
+cayeminterviews yeah the guitar should be just like him and solo the whole time and the singer should just scream uncontrollably. then they would all be on the same level.
I like how everyone is treating the drummer like he is not literally the person who decides how the song is played. The song is supposed to be played how it wants it to be played. I think this version is wonderfully intense. As a drummer I almost fell out of my chair. Haha!
completely completely agree. I'm sure the band decided to put some more in for the live version. and i'm also thinking there was a sound mistake that they made the drums a little too loud. but regardless, I thought it was amazing.
Redd Vlogs they are refferingto the old songs that he didnt write. they songs they wrote with him his style is fine but the old songs the drummer had more control over the dynamics where as the new one doesnt use the same dynamics for the old ones, dont get me wrong i understand what you mean but its cause they all know how the old songs sound live cause of the old drummer's control
+Redd Vlogs being good at playing fills is cool. But when it takes away from the actual message of the music and distracts from the main point of the song, its not good. And there's a couple times where it actually takes away from the music via tempo issues. And some of just honestly doesn't make sense musically. And this is coming from a drummer.
Gotta disagree with the crowd on this one.. I absolutely love everything about the drums in this video. They sound so good. Connor is a talented drummer and every time I see BAAO live i'm always blown away.
***** yes we know that he is good but they are mostly taking that opinion from the old songs onto the new ones. i love how he playson the new songs but on the old ones he doesnt have he control everyone is use to hearing on live videos thats why they are bashing
The amount of passion and emotion that every member of this band puts into their music is absolute perfection. It’s what I love to see in a band. BAAO is without a doubt one of my favorite bands of all time.
The drummer is insane. Seeing him perform How We Bother Wondrously Perish live left the venue in silence and gave me goosebumps all over, even with how short it is.
I just watched this for the first time. My eyes watered, my throat got chocked up, my heart raced and my ears listened. I remembered the way it felt to be the person that I was. I miss and love im.
It seems that somebody took some lessons from Aaron Gillespie hahaha. It´s amazing how this band has improve,I seriously don´t understand the people ho are hating on them. Oh, and the ones ho are saying those drums are overplayed, its his song and with that technique he should have done that in the studio.
Actually, he really DID took some lessons from Gillespie!!! If your search on youtube for "Practicing With Aaron Gillespie" you will see this drummer but way younger haha
We are all homeless in one way or another Whether we've lost ourselves to lust Inflamed passions for things desired; forgotten the other Wandering aimlessly, in love with something that will only collect dust Or perhaps we've been led into the wilderness by some radiant lover, just to be left out in the cold A distant memory, and the warmth of home What are we then to do? 'Cause in the heat of bliss, we swore we would never love another There was truth and dignity in that oath Can there be any hope for their retention, in its breaking? That even while being disavowed, we recognize humanity We have all made mistakes, And G-d, I've made mistakes But my mistakes haven't made me Oh fallen acorn, lost and alone Can you still be kissed by fire, give up your seed And spring up into a towering, mighty oak? We've been led into the wilderness by some radiant lover, just to be left in the cold A distant memory, the warmth of home 'Cause in the heat of bliss, we swore we would never love another We've all made mistakes, every last one of us And just because we've told a lie, can we not still grow to be honest? Oh fallen acorn, lost and alone Can you still be kissed by fire, give up your seed And spring up into a towering, mighty oak? Thrown off kilter None of us would have thought We'd be who we are now When we were still little Eyes wide to possibility Who could have known That we'd witness such depravity
@Bigdubbthegreat you explained it perfectly. I'm drummer myself and when I play I add a bit more fills because I love the way I feel when I do. And this drummer made those fills go perfectly with the song.
The drummer is amazing ! Its live music you can't control what your body does when you just feel the music.. Better than performing like a fucking Beatle !
This band has brought me through the mud and blood. This band has inspired me through the darkest moments in my life. I’ve never seen them life because they’re always elsewhere. But you’re forever in my heart. Thank you -... .- .- - - -
I love how everyone is telling the drummer what to do as if they know how the band is meant to play more than the band itself. Leave the dude alone, he's an extremely talented drummer and has a real passion for what he's doing. Good on him!
LIKE THIS SO EVERYONE WILL SOP BITCHING ABOUT THE DRUMMER Look everyone says he has to many fills and that he has to much energy in a live studio performance? BUT GUESS WHAT it fucking sounds AMAZING and his skill as a drummer at that age in pretty fucking high and he does NOT have to much energy it's called caring about the music and letting the music envelop you its not energy hes showing in his drumming here its his raw emotion as a musician plain and simple say whatever you want but this guy is 40x the drummer and musician then most bands out there right now
They were flawless when I saw them live, the fills here are a little crazy but when you're actually at a show they match the rooms energy, (not that I remember him filling to that extent.)
Connor somehow took a transition song (How We Both Wondrously Parish) and turned it into the highlight of the video. I wish he still played in this lineup but Beartooth is good for him!
I watched this video twice, the first i hated the drummer, the second time I watched I liked it alot, so all you peaople complainnig about it, watch it again, give Connor a second chance
I agree. I don't mind a touch of clean vocals, but I was disappointed when I realised that almost every song on their new album had a generic sounding sung chorus.
the clean vocalist is from a band called The Elijah.....he was better there than he is in BAAO....in my opinion....but hey its whatever still one of my favorite bands
You all rip the drummer apart because he's getting good vibes off the music he's playing? Get a reality check. The rest of the band is cool with it or else he wouldn't be there.
Overplaying? I think you need to look into Underoath's style a bit more. With Spencer in the band, they took on a more chatoic, heavier approach to their songwriting. That particular style of music calls for drums to be beaten to death, does it not? Had Aaron not hit the drums as hard as he did their music wouldn't carry the same kind of momentum. Perhaps Connor, in this case, was just feeling the music. There's nothing that you can say or do that will change the fact that he loves what he's doing and he just displayed it right there, only to receive criticism that insists he ruined the song just by playing with his heart.
There's loving what you do, which is one thing, and then there's changing the song completely. As drummers, we're the rhythm that holds things down. If he's playing a fill that's louder than everyone else and interrupts the verse then he's basically trying to steal the show. It's one thing to play a fill, it's quite another to play it on time, in time.
you clearly are oblivious to the aesthetics of Connor's playing. He was taught by Aaron Gillespie, which is one of the hardest hitters in music today. Getting into the song or hitting hard gives the song emotion. Yes, you can put emotion in playing drums. He plays soft on some parts which need played that way. Plays hard on others. It gives the beat variety which gives a person that actually pays attention to the drums, an emotional feel from the dynamics. Connor is an absolutely great drummer, he has great technique, knows his rudiments and applies them to his playing. Nothing you can do better while playing drums is applying your knowledge of proper playing to your songs.
As a drummer, there is such a thing as doing too much. This seems to be an unpopular opinion in the comments, but there are a lot of sections that this song suffers from too much happening on the drums.
One person mentions the drummer and the drum fills then everyone starts freaking out and saying the same exact thing. This dude is a great drummer and he's obviously got good rhythm. No need to talk bad about that, they like him so just accept it. He's still so young too and I'm sure he's not used to being in a band that big
I half agree with the comments on the drummer. He's definitely a beast but there are fills that simply don't make sense and take a little away from the overall performance.
I've been drumming for more than 20 years and I ABSOLUTELY agree. He breaks the groove to do nothing for the song but for himself. It's and endless nonsense. It's about how good the SONG is, NOT how good you are at drumming, in my opinion.
+UrbanDanger ! Ive been a fan of this band since day1, I am a musician too. The drummer is very talented but I think he's over playing. I kind of miss the old drummer, their old sound. Dont get me wrong I love the new album. Just not the drummer
Too much drums. I understand playing the same song night after night gets boring but a drum fill every bar is too much. Playing a clean, soft building up part of a song and he's going ham lol. Dude has chops and can slay some drums but he does too much in my opinion.
Charlie Cairns Passion can be expressed in other ways than being loud you idiot. Getting emotion across is not very effective if it's 100% volume the whole time. You're so simple-minded and obviously don't understand simple dynamics.
WeAreHumannequins this is how the song is written. he wrote the drums. if you are talking about the songs with the older drummer then yeah he could chill a bit but his style is apart of the new record.
+Seth Baker I'd say you should blame the mastering and stuff, not the drummer. It's hard to play drums quiet yet powerful. They should have adjusted the other instruments to the volume.
Connor, we get it! You're a fantastic drummer, but a lot of those fills take away from the song...every instrument has its place, so please just chill a bit. Speaking as a multi-instrumentalist and drummer of nearly ten years before anyone asks.
00:12: HAHAHAHA. For a moment, i thought the hi-hat sounds actually came from brushing the drummer's hair on the snare. XD
+Gnarrkhaz baked much?
Top Goose Not myself, no, but i love a delicious pie as much as the next guy.
+Gnarrkhaz me, too! hahaha
I was thinking the same thing, and I hadn't even seen this comment. Great minds think alike, I'd say (73 of us, it looks like currently).
what, you mean it isn't?
Some of the best clean vocals I've ever heard by the guitarist. All around a 10/10 performance, in my opinion.
What’s the guitarist name?
if anyone wishes to see more live footage of their drummer connor, feel free to check out the drum cams we have done with him! amazingly talented drummer
Finally! Someone that isn't bashing him. He is such a great and talented drummer.
+Seth Baker I bet he could outplay you.
***** of course. But you miss my point.
I like how everyone is treating the drummer like he is not literally the person who decides how the song is played. The song is supposed to be played how it wants it to be played. I think this version is wonderfully intense. As a drummer I almost fell out of my chair. Haha!

I love the drummer in this live video it shows that he has passion for the band and he has passion for what he's playing
+Chris Albers exactly....he's wayyyyy too busy for this song!
This is the purest reflection of how music moves through you! I'm absolutely besotted with this.
"besotted"... nice, new word addeded to my vocabulary, i would sayy "baffled" and mesmerized (english not my main language)
Drumming is super intense! Was fucking epic, I love the atmosphere the drummer brings. Definitely gonna listen to more of these guys!
I think the drummer took this song to a whole new level, and the energy that he gives to this performance, that's what I love about this.
Connor is a killer drummer!!
Too busy for this song for sure!! I am a drummer...he's good but he takes away from the song!
The drum intro is amazing.
Agreed! The drums on the intro are killer! Actually the reason why I enjoy this video so much.
You can tell everyone in the comments is new to the baao and melodic hardcore cause they complain too much.Perfect performance
This dude is a phenomenally talented drummer, and they're his parts on his band's songs. He can play them however the hell he feels like playing them.
Dat bass... just excellent.
So glad I finally started listening to them about a month ago
The amount of passion and emotion that every member of this band puts into their music is absolute perfection. It’s what I love to see in a band. BAAO is without a doubt one of my favorite bands of all time.
The drummer is insanely good!
The drummer is insane. Seeing him perform How We Bother Wondrously Perish live left the venue in silence and gave me goosebumps all over, even with how short it is.
After all these years I still comeback to see Connor's drumming here, He such a beasts!
I just watched this for the first time. My eyes watered, my throat got chocked up, my heart raced and my ears listened. I remembered the way it felt to be the person that I was. I miss and love im.
And that is what music is all about. :)

man i miss this era of this band i shoulda seen them back when i had the chance
This band has brought me through the mud and blood. This band has inspired me through the darkest moments in my life. I’ve never seen them life because they’re always elsewhere.
But you’re forever in my heart.
Thank you -... .- .- - - -
Ahhh shut up, the clean vocals are beautiful
the sound of the bass guitar was simply AMAZING!
Still watch this all the time
This version is by far the bset, love the intro and the drum solo!
I wish the recorded version had this drumming! Soo good!
I love how everyone is telling the drummer what to do as if they know how the band is meant to play more than the band itself. Leave the dude alone, he's an extremely talented drummer and has a real passion for what he's doing. Good on him!
Love how the drummer feels the music
I love this band with all my sadness and hapiness.
Such an amazing drummer and vocalists and guitarists and bassist
Fuck this band is great!
These guys are insanely good live
This band deserves more views :))))
LIKE THIS SO EVERYONE WILL SOP BITCHING ABOUT THE DRUMMER
Look everyone says he has to many fills and that he has to much energy in a live studio performance? Fuckin powerful song!!! Just stumbled upon this! I love it!!
Muito bom
esse batera e demais
Great song!! and the drummer sound great tbh
hope you upload more, this was awesome
That was amazing, especially considering it was a studio performance.
Perfection ❤️
This is a masterpiece. Thank you.
This is better than the original version. It is simply amazing, especially considering it was performed in a studio.
This is stupid good!
Best drummer ever
Connor somehow took a transition song (How We Both Wondrously Parish) and turned it into the highlight of the video. I wish he still played in this lineup but Beartooth is good for him!
I love Being As An Ocean so fucking much
so intense. baao is bringing you through every shit that happens in life!
When a band is just as good live :)
love it!!
Damn the drums here is much better, I like this version better than the album xD
СПАСИБО!!!
3:04 wow =O
Connor is a beast
It's like a strange mashup of letlive. and mewithoutyou. Pretty good though.
I watched this video twice, the first i hated the drummer, the second time I watched I liked it alot, so all you peaople complainnig about it, watch it again, give Connor a second chance
💜💜💜💜
That drummer sure is loving this, makes me stoned for the rest of the song
The clean vocalist reminds me of Patrick Stump from Fall Out Boy.
Clean vocals sound like Fall Out Boy mixed with The Amity Affliction XD
Just joking, I'm really in love with this song and whole album.
I really like everything but the clean vocals. It's just so like everything else when it gets to the chorus.
I agree. I don't mind a touch of clean vocals, but I was disappointed when I realised that almost every song on their new album had a generic sounding sung chorus.
oh hi
the clean vocalist is from a band called The Elijah.....he was better there than he is in BAAO....in my opinion....but hey its whatever still one of my favorite bands
Just to be clear, I don't think he has a bad voice at all.
*Suddenly a wild bassist-related comment appeared*
Как он чувствует
You all rip the drummer apart because he's getting good vibes off the music he's playing? Get a reality check. The rest of the band is cool with it or else he wouldn't be there.
guys there is not inadvertently lead singer with the group the Elejah ??????
Fucking amazing dude.
Hipster core
Heavy undertones of underoath.... man baao music is so inspiring just like underoaths was
Brutus just noticed Veritas on the kick drum. 😱
Shit this is awesome does anyone knows the genre? At first it sounded like post rock but it does not have the structure of it
its melodic hardcore
Kinda spoken word. Check out Hotel Books.
Does it matter?
Yeah wanna hear more bands like them
try listening to capsize, counterparts or defeater but they are a little bit more heavy than being as an ocean. baao is one of a kind!
fucking good
I love it, but the drummer is overplaying How We Both Wondrously Perish. It's supposed to be simple on the drums to lead into the next song nicely
I guess when Aaron Gillespie teaches you to play drums you start overplaying lots
Joseph Clarke Is that a bad thing? Gillespie is great.
Overplaying? I think you need to look into Underoath's style a bit more. With Spencer in the band, they took on a more chatoic, heavier approach to their songwriting. That particular style of music calls for drums to be beaten to death, does it not? Had Aaron not hit the drums as hard as he did their music wouldn't carry the same kind of momentum.

this video shows both why Connor is one the best drummers out there and why they decided to let him go
Bruh the drummer is way into it. XD
Fuck why did they even get rid of Conor :(
He left on his own. He wanted to lead a normal life and I respect him for that.
+suyesh Singh lead a normal life..? He's in beartooth now lol
William Sanchez hes a session drummer as well and didnt wanna get tied down to one band and one thing thats why.
heard the recorded version AFTER hearing this one.... disappointed
ha same here
As a drummer, there is such a thing as doing too much. This seems to be an unpopular opinion in the comments, but there are a lot of sections that this song suffers from too much happening on the drums.

I wish Connor never left the band.
I agree.
JosuéXHunter finally someone agreed!
Hablas español? hehe.
No
Sabrina Sanchez Sorry, my english is bad. Respect to Connor, I wish he would return to BAAO.
I half agree with the comments on the drummer. He's definitely a beast but there are fills that simply don't make sense and take a little away from the overall performance.
this drummer should keep it simple
I've been drumming for more than 20 years and I ABSOLUTELY agree. He breaks the groove to do nothing for the song but for himself. It's and endless nonsense. It's about how good the SONG is, NOT how good you are at drumming, in my opinion.
So this is bizarro Alexisonfire then?
the drummer should form his own band. 😕
This is his own band.
Agree. He fills everything with his musical ego.
tim the tat man anyone?
This drummer is driving me crazy, this isn't a live show. He needs to learn how to blend.
*****
It doesnt matter where he fucking plays the song. Passion is passion he's allowed to feel it and express it wherever the fuck he wants.
Charlie Cairns Passion can be expressed in other ways than being loud you idiot. Getting emotion across is not very effective if it's 100% volume the whole time. You're so simple-minded and obviously don't understand simple dynamics.
***** Well maybe something like passion doesnt have to be difficult and complicated you douche.
man, I can't stand the drummer. Dig the band hard though
I feel the same. Their last drummer appealed way more better for this band. His name is Shad.
sunset1151 Connor is a great drummer, he just needs to relax and play the songs they way they were written is all
sunset1151 His name is Robert Paulson.
WeAreHumannequins this is how the song is written. he wrote the drums. if you are talking about the songs with the older drummer then yeah he could chill a bit but his style is apart of the new record.
ShowHate It actually isn't though... Go listen to the songs as they are on the record
Am I the only one that thinks the drummer needs to chill on the fills? 90% of them don't even work with the song.
Yes you are the only one!
Andrew Porter yes, literally the only person
I've been drumming for more than 20 years and I absolutely agree with you.
The drummer actually needs to relax. The whole song is a drum solo.
+Seth Baker I'd say you should blame the mastering and stuff, not the drummer. It's hard to play drums quiet yet powerful. They should have adjusted the other instruments to the volume.
ummmm the drums MAKE this version of the song.. quit hating
Connor, we get it! You're a fantastic drummer, but a lot of those fills take away from the song...every instrument has its place, so please just chill a bit. Speaking as a multi-instrumentalist and drummer of nearly ten years before anyone asks.
Drummer is awesome...but there is something called too busy...way too busy taking away from the song in the beginning!
this entire crew is too corny and mellow dramatic
I think conor ruin the music, too much lick or chop that he show so i can't feel the soul of that music:((
