This looks like a fun challenge to tackle! Definitely gonna try. Regarding the gunners, I can carve the special weapons to fit onto the auxilia gun stocks, then remove the handguard from the left hands with a dremel tool.
Maybe, I think they look quite visually similar to breachers as it is, and breachers throw up a number of problems. You need a shield guy, a guy with a non standard rotary las weapon and a couple of different Pokémon type things.
At the FLGS they still have the 30k starter on the shelf. And last time I checked, they were still on the GW website too. I’m really interested in these models but just don’t think that I’d ever get to play 30k.
I picked up a couple sprues of the AofD MKVI Astartes on ebay, made curious by their beekie-nostalgia-bait-appeal. During the Christmas break along with bits from the old plastic MKIII & IV and much older '00s(?) Tactical squad kits I bashed together enough Heresy themed models, 15 or so, to be able to proxy teams for either Chaos Legionaries or Intercession rules, and with base ring adapters probably Strike Force Justian too. At the moment they're sat in a clear plastic container above my hobby desk because I can't commit to a scheme. I suspect I'll get at most, a handful of casual games in with these models before the new release of Kill Team this year and while I've no intention of ever playing HH2.0 they'd probably fit right into a Zone Mortalis list as HQ, veterans, seekers or reconnaissance. I agree the starter is quite a thing to take on, however because so many were produced re-sellers breaking up these boxes have to price their listings accordingly.
It's a big box to be sure. I know Zimbad bought the 30k starter and hasn't got much interest in the 30k game system - a system very much of it's time - but the beakie marines also make good alternatives for intercessors if you like the vibe.
@@TabletopImpulse They do indeed - with a little plasticard and green stuff I've managed to make my builds every bit as tall as Primaris. The new mono-pose MKV! aren't as easy to bash as the muliti-part Calth and Prospero kits, but the project proved with practice and a good jeweler's saw any and every kind of armour combination is possible.
The concept you proposed seems very interesting. The problem with the Guard is that in addition to DKOK, you also have new Cadians. In both cases, the models are very good. Someone would have to really like Solar Auxilia to make such a team. But the concept is interesting. So far, they haven't shown what the sprues look like. Maybe there will be more things on them that can be used to create a team.
I think the sprues might reveal some extra sgt parts that would make the sgt and confidant easier to build but I don't anticipate the sudden reveal of special weapons.
If I were making gunners, I would keep the body of the SAux lasgun, clip of the barrel and sand down the top. You can then remove the hands and underside of a plasma gun, and the two pieces should fit together convincingly. This should work for flamers and melta too, especially if you use a combi-flamer/melta bit. The grenade launcher is tricky if you want one that looks like a krieg launcher or one with a big drum magazine, but if you just put any cylinder bit on top of the lasgun body, you get something close to a US M320.
You know, I have seen very skilled hobbyists pull off some crazy things and have them look like they just rolled off the line at the factory. So I have no doubt that it could be done, but it isn't going to be as easy as many people would want it to be.
@@TabletopImpulse I looked at the auxiliary sprues shown in the article, and it looks like there are plasma, melta, and other pistols in the kits themselves that could easily be glued onto the front or top of the lasgun body.
I feel the need to lasguns on people isn’t really necessary - unless they have a special weapon (plasma, melta, flamer, bolter, sniper) everyone has a lasgun. I don’t think it’s totally necessary as you can just assume they have a rifle
I got your reference 👍🏻 That was a roller coaster of a video - I was getting more & more hyped until the Gunner Problem reared its ugly head. It’s a shame because they’re such excellent sculpts.
Planning to do this to get into 3rd edition cause apparently I won't be able to use my sisters, and I like the Auxilia kit. Some of the lasrifles have the stocks go below their arm instead of into their armpit. Think it'd be really easy to snip those hands off and just stick in the veteran special weapons.
The issue in 30k terms is that box will be 6/700 points, and most Heresy games are 3k. Everything in that box is useful, sure, but you have no answer to enemy meleé and a single Contemptor will ruin your day. You'll probably need 4 boxes, Charadon Ogryns and probably want to consider a Lord of War. Good luck getting 4 FOMO boxes with Heresy stock levels!
@@TabletopImpulse the list building for a Tercio is like 2nd Ed Imperial Guard so one platoon command per X squad. You might not want 4 but you'd certainly want 2, and the saving on the other units still makes it a good buy. You could use the spares for something else, maybe a Kill Team conversion?

I think you have all missed a trick here. They are obviously a perfect kitbask for navi breachers. A box of each and you can have a full roster!

A valid point. Not really that current on 30k rules myself, would you really want 4 boxes of this though? Just thinking of the command sections.
