  • Last year, as American liberals struggled to make sense of the Donald Trump phenomenon, historian Mark Lilla offered his analysis in the pages of the New York Times. His essay took his fellow liberals to task for what he called the "moral panic" of identity politics, arguing that brand of politics had cost the Democrats the election. It was provocative, and is now the stepping off point for his latest book, "The Once and Future Liberal: After Identity Politics." Lilla joins The Agenda to discuss his ideas.
