We put all kinds of stuff in our snow. Syrup or honey and mostly sugar and sweet cream. We used to make ours outside though so it stayed cold! Dry fluffy snow works best. I also remember breaking ice cycles off the house and eating them. I wasn’t thinking about all the yucky stuff that was probably in it from the roof lol. To be a carefree kid again. I loved when it snowed and never understood why my parents hated it. Now I do!
Here in |Vermont we have Sugar on Snow. When you gather snow, quickly pour maple syrup in thin strips. Let it harden and you have a form of maple syrup taffy! Next time we have powered snow we can try your version with sweetened condensed milk, yum!
Regarding what God said about dirt...I was an abandoned baby (outside) and if I didn’t have the instinct to eat, I wouldn’t be here today. I was in the hospital for 2 months for pinworms, but 60 years later...I’m here!
I live in North Carolina and we got just a tiny bit of snow, but not enough for snow cream. I was not going to be outdone. I got some ice cubes, milk, vanilla and some sugar-put it in my Vitamix and guess what I had snow cream. I loved my mother's snow cream. She used to always put out a bowl to get snow.
My Grandmother made her snow cream just like you did. My Grandaddy would take a big bowl & get the snow off the top of the cars & she'd make it. It was so good. Thank you Paula for the memory.
Ahhh yes, childhood memories! Here in Texas, when it snowed, (very rarely), mom would set out a big bowl, and when it finally filled up we would make snow ice cream! My brother and I got so excited! 🤗❤
Well, we just got a few inches of snow, overnight, here in Massachusetts. Think I’ll make some snow ice cream. I’m quite partial to maple syrup, myself! Thanks, Paula… ❤️😘
I grew up in Virginia lived there for 40 years until I moved to South Carolina about 10 years ago. I never ever ate any of the snow from outside however. Still don’t think I would. You’re brave!😂
Paula, I I take a picture every year when I have snow to keep record of what snow we did get. I live here in Kansas City Missouri this year came up like a 14 inch no and we’re just getting finished with it.
paula like you if see snow a rarity. if can even count on one hand. Of those time, didnt go out. its cold. stay in the 75 degree house and look at it out the window. Never thought about eating it. Not because of the worry warts of getting radiated. just not an ice cream person and if wont go get some out of the freezer not going to the patio LOL LOL
Well, no thank you. The atmosphere isn't as clean as it used to be. Especially with 8 billion people in the world. Just remember what you ate when you start to feel sick.
Oh no thanks! I guess Savannah birds don’t fly around and poo while it is snowing? I also guess your puppies didn’t go out for potty break during snow storm and that gets covered by more snow?
I agree and started to write that but knew there would be so many to mock the facts. It contains the contaminants and pollution in the air. I just worry that this encourages people to do it more often.
@LadyNance Those of us who want to eat snow cream, are gonna do it, whether Paula recommends it, or not. Noone is mocking you or anyone else, for choosing not to eat it, but we do wish that people would stop trying to dictate what others eat, just because you don't want to. There are so many things in this world that are full of chemicals, and we have eaten them for years, and are still ok. I do try to eat relatively healthy, but, at the same time, I'm not gonna deprive myself of something I truly enjoy, that only comes around once, every few years or so. Life is too short, to not have some enjoyment, now and then. Live and let live, is a great rule of thumb. 😊❤

Filtered water ice cubes are safer than snow actually - you win !

Before heading out to get your snow, would it be helpful to put the sweetened condensed milk in the fridge??
