🤯 … this literally helped me hit the straightest shots of my life. Thanks. So simple.
That’s super to hear and keep at it 👍🏌️♂️
best instructor. hands down.
Too kind but much appreciated:) 🏌️♂️👍
Pterodactyl swing. Nailed it! You are the only person I see on RUclips addressing the problem of being overly connected, and rigid. This makes total sense to me. I am right handed so starting with the right arm/side feels more natural. Thank You!!
Excellent! I hope this yields some good feels and results on the right path for you :)
Hi Alex I’ve used the push a golf ball backwards along the ground drill to start the backswing which works allied to your pull with the fingers is a golden nugget many thanks🙏
Yes great classic drill. But be wary or placing the takeaway too much. The throwing over shoulder is the perfect blend 👍🏌️♂️
Thanks for this Video .This is called freedom! But trust is a must until you can sense and feel the freedom on the course!
Very well said indeed !
awesome video as usual from you....
Appreciate that! 👍🏌️♂️
I had a lesson today and this was exactly my problem. After half an hour and an hour on the range I was striking the ball beautifully..
Good to know! Keep at it
This is PURE GOLD Tried on range today and saw immediate results helped me realize where club should be at top of backswing and how to more easily get it there with simple club cover drill thanks again
Excellent! Well done and keep at it. Thanks for coming back to share your positive 🏌️♂️⛳️👍
Thanks. Something I've toyed with before but great having it confirmed as worthwhile sticking with by your good self.
Excellent!
alex. I swear I've only been playing for a few months. and with your instruction only, I've made great strides and on my very 1st 18 holes I hit a 92. I owe it all to you. I subscribed for your monthly plan and I'm hoping to get to play with you one day
This is wonderful to hear! Very glad you’re with us. Keep at it and enjoy the journey of this crazy game lol 👍🤦🏻♂️💪🏌️♂️😩😂⛳️🏆
What a great tip and well described so that us weekend warriors can easily understand. Can't wait to try it out for real.
Mel,Kyabram, Australia
Great and let us know how it goes!
Another game changer Alex , after watching your videos my ball striking has vastly improved, all my playing partners are asking who’s coaching me !!
That’s wonderful to hear!! Glad you are with us here on RUclips and I’m sure you’d take it further with our programs and club access too.
Well done and keep at it;)
Wow, it works! Thanks
Cheers!
Best video I’ve seen about the golf swing on RUclips yet.
You make me blush;) hope it helps and others we have too. Thanks!
Thank you! I think the challenge is we have 8 things " we have to do" and the swing becomes very mechanical.
I am working on my takeaway and body turn...the other items can come later...I am absolutely crushing the ball...sometimes it is a massive hook but that's ok..
Great vid!
Hopefully we can or have helped with those other aspects.. Denver it’s a movement not a load of positions
@@TheArtofSimpleGolf absolutely! I think my elbow and arm placement aren't in sync...
@@robbie192 don’t try force it
Yes. That’s my swing.
🏌️♂️👍
My back swing is very similar to this. I would describe it as the right arm pulling while the left arm is following the right arm with a little pushing. Amazingly the left shoulder will turn under and you'll be very aware of your weight shift to the right. Once you've determined the length of your back swing, you'll feel the transition of your weight or pressure moving back to the left as you move into your forward swing. With practice, it becomes a fluid motion increasing your club head speed with very little effort. The only problem will be adjusting for the new lengths you'll be hitting all you clubs. And that's a good problem to have
Excellent and well described!
Wow total game changer! I feel like your first demo perfectly sums up my swing. I gave it a practice this afternoon with my driver and the ball went flying without any effort at all!!! Thanks!
Well done and really happy to hear it resonated and you got results right away! Keep at it!
your a bloody psychic exactly what i do any tips on slowing the swing down
Well we have a brand new video on tempo releasing tomorrow on Saturday… we also have some lessons on transition and downswing feel
At the transition should pull down with left hand. I found myself almost casting with my right hand!!!
Probably too tight with arms and wrists
It does resonate. I work with the Structure Ball to promote connection and it does help with ball striking but sometimes I am inconsistent with the top of the backswing and on the finish.
Structure ball is good. Perhaps just not try as make a big of a turn.
👍trying this at the moment not hit a ball for a year getting the feeling back, thank you
Well done getting back into it and hope we can help!
Excellent thanks Mr. forget ! You are the BEST ! Especially for us let's say experienced golfers !
Meant Mr. Forget ! I hate spell check
Fortey !!!!!!!!
Ha you got there. Mr Forget… quite a name ;)
I suppose it could work if said with French accent :)
I forgive :) or shall I say forget !
Thanks and hope it helps you specifically
Love this feel for so many… if this resonates let us know below! Also if not already get our new free series theartofsimplegolf.com/free
This is so good. I spent eons (like most) being taught & trying to learn “positions” & angles to the point of wanting to quit due to frustration. Started to just rely on these “feels” like this. Feeling the weight of the club & letting my body do the work. Letting go of tension, letting go of arms & learning what the ball flight meant & adjusting accordingly. Now I just naturally swing at what feels like 50% & my swing has transformed.
Exactly!! Wry glad to hear that you are benefited and seeing the results! Keep going:;)
Great back & through momentum drill. I try to go with the elbows pit up address with long and loose arms
Sounds good to me:)
Yes, that resonates!
Try the drill and see how it feels
Been struggling with trying to get width in swing like the look of this tip
Down to course tomorrow will give it try👍
Best of luck but let us know how it goes!
The Pterodactylus analogy is very funny👍
Sometimes nonsense flies out my mouth when nattering away doing these lol:)
I think I was thinking g of a T-Rex to be honest.. but guess it works ;)
This is a beautiful and how easily this one video collaborates several tips IN ONE !! I love the style of presentation.. Very genuine ... I can't think it can be any better 🙏
It's a bit of a coincidence as I was coached on this style by my coach a few days ago... Just returning from the course ... on last hole I could get a perfect execution of the shot .. 10% extra distance !!
Thank you so much! Make me blush ;)
Excellent and keep at it!
Excellent video Alex
Thank you very much!
Starting the backswing from the ground up was the aha moment. No one ever told me to start with lower body and it’s a shame I found out 30yrs later.
Now I think of it like ice skating moving the energy back & forth.
That’s so great to hear!!! Very very good visual of skating!!
Yes
🏌️♂️👍
Hi
I have tried the pull back with my right hand and I definitely have better width but seem to make the mistake of throwing the club on the downswing also with my right hand!!!
Love your tips.
Jim
It sounds like you need to feel more transition and flow. Also check to see if the club feels heavy and not too firm with arms
thanks like a shawn clements to the point!!
Cheers and glad you liked it
TY
Thank you!
THAT'S ME!
maybe not for much longer ;)
Cannot wait to try this tomorrow at the range, I have no CLUBHEAD speed. Always just trying to rotate back and through the ball only. That is causing a slap at the ball at best. I saw one of your other videos to stop trying to kill yourself just rotating to get speed. Doesn’t work obviously, this video should help me get speed with the CLUBHEAD. We will see if I can catch on quickly for at least a bit more speed, hope so.
I believe it will be my the sounds of it! Let us know how it goes!
@@TheArtofSimpleGolf Well thank you, this definitely adds a piece to what I call the golf swing “puzzle”. Unfortunately, I can turn my shoulders to kingdom come BUT my big problem is I cannot build any meaningful torque with my hips whereby I feel a whipping sensation through the ball. I don’t know how pro golfers do it, especially Jon Rahm with his rather short backswing. Yep, it is a puzzle. And if I go to a lighter shaft (senior), those have such a low kick point that one gets great height but distance for me is short changed then as a result. A friend of mine who is a good golfer told me to concentrate on both hinging and unhinging the club and also working on getting a swoosh sound through the hitting zone without even hitting balls.
@@robertcuomo7084 heavier is better for many in my opinion. We need to get you to try the short swing series we have.
Great video quality!
Glad you enjoyed it
Great advice as always. It’s the Tyrannosaurus with the short arms by the way!
Yeh I know! I replied in another comment that is what i was thinking lol :)
Excellent video
Much appreciated and hope it gives you the feel and drill you might need right now. Cheers
Love your videos. I can only learn by feel, positioning means nothing to me.
The chest muscles are made for produce resistance to the arms, together with the clavicles, they are used to keep the arm in whatever positions as we want.
It just look like we use the chest muscles to lift the arm.
😎
That’s me.
Hope this helps
Awesome video, I’ve been using a similar feel that has given me big improvements, will definitely test out these feels next time I’m at the range
Let us know how you get on
✋yes that’s me
Hope this changes that:)
Tried this feel recently. Creates a feeling of "torgue" in left shoulder. Pull it back with right side and then through with left side. Increases distance with hardly any effort.
Yep!! Well done
Due to a bad lesson 10 yrs ago( my last!) resulting in spending hours hitting balls with a towel under my arms i have a tendency to overturn and lurch at the ball.Ok im now down to 4hcp so improved! But my latest feel is dynamic use of my feet and ground pressure to produce more speed in my swing.Worked today shot 72 in medal so i toss the club away but fractionally first with my feet and then throw it with my feet! Ok mad i know.prob another rabbit hole but im excited about playing tomorrow!
Always connect and swing the club. it helps every thing. And stick with it. Don't chase the next rabbit right away :)
@@TheArtofSimpleGolf Yes it was another RH! I always end up overdoing/overturning on backswing and end up swing me not the club or muscling it,will watch your video again.
PS its Tyrannosaurus (short arms) not Pterodactyl!
@@grahamjones7371 I know I know. Can;t remember it all when filming, teaching, swinging lol
Hi Alex it looks like there's a bit of pause at the top before you start down that a good feal
More of a catching the weight of the club as transition.
@@TheArtofSimpleGolf OK I think I get what you mean
I have to admit I have made more progress since I have been watching your videos than I ever had before thanks Alex for taking the time to do the videos
@@peterquinn4747 well I’m delighted to hear that! Thanks
Yes very familiar. I chunk loads of irons and shank shorter clubs😟
This should help!
Genius
😌
I definitely relate to this. I'm struggling with my irons because if I loosen up and feel the weight of the club head my swing becomes disconnected and armsy. Then when I try to turn connected it becomes stiff and I lose distance.
It sounds like this might help blend the two
@@TheArtofSimpleGolf I shall certainly try it.
Great point ☝🏻
“Stay connected. Upper arms close to torso. Elbows in.”
… all good stuff!
BUT, definitely need WIDTH!
Many of us suffer from coming into the ball TOO STEEP 🙄
What’s the answer?
I think you nailed it 👍🏻
I’ve heard to get width, to keep your left arm straighter, …
PUSH with the RIGHT ARM!
Keep up the good work.
Thanks and your own feels are key to know what’s too narrow or the feel you need
I'm a bit worried that pulling with the right hand/arm will move the club too much inside on the backswing, but I'll give it a go.
It’s a blend. Keep soft arm but also straighter. Let us know how it goes
Pterodactyls have long arms / wings. Tyrannosaurus Rex has short arms. Keeping my right arm far from my right ear has worked wonders on my driver
I know it’s what I meant to say! 🤦🏻♂️ it was hot and a lot to remember lol
Bingo!
Hello Alex, could you help me with some exercise to prevent the body from moving forward on the downswing. Thank you so much.
Yes… practice with feet and knees together or your trail leg 1 ft behind so nearly all weight on lead side
great question and great answer to stop us swayers from losing balance.
Is a slight lateral shift to the left a good momentum trigger? Not sure how you’re saying we get the flow? Liking your stuff. Have subscribed.
Yes I suggest it to lots of folks and it’s something I have got myself to do on all shots too.
Just try the imaging of tossing the club way behind you. Very hard to do if static.
That's me
Let us know if that becomes the old you:)
Backswing is a problem. I have trouble getting my hands as high as you get yours, at least not without strain. So my only solution is to force the club thru impact. Which of course is the reason for my severe lack of distance.
Allow the weight of the club the help you
@@TheArtofSimpleGolf when I do that, I hit shorter not longer. But that's just me.
@@JeffPassageCPA watch the short swing videos we have. They might give you more oomph
I have a few questions.
I will say that I've been feeling cramped and narrow for a while. I was taught to keep the right elbow tucked and yet left arm straight which causes that crossing the chest/tight feeling. Compound that with the "well I need to rotate more" and it feels trapped on the way down. I suppose the way my body adjusted to this is having a very in-to-out swing with the right arm tucked in and rotate except I suppose I'm not rotating enough so maybe wrist flipping, early extension, typically pulls and hooks..
My questions are what are the feelings for the downswing? Is the left arm now pulling and the right arm is pushing and essentially palm facing the ground and through? I understand having flow and supple wrists and I'm going to do this backswing drill but I'm curious about the downswing one now.
EDIT: Wow, I watched this video and then checked my notifications just to see you linked me right to this one! Lol.

I know this is off subject , but what is your take on using fatter grips on clubs, I was fitted for standard size, but I used my buddies driver the other day with midsize less taper grips and they felt really comfortable. Thank You
I talk about it in a couple of videos and even recently in what’s in the bag video. Midsize in my experience help more golfers than not by a long way
@@TheArtofSimpleGolf Thank You !!
Looks a lot like Shawn Clements there old buddy.
To not stay too overly clamped and connected is something many many top players and coaches prescribe. And it’s not for every golfer all the time. All I know is this is more old school teaching that’s a little more natural and it works for many who are hitting at or struggling. What part are you referring to?
Ptérodactyle ? You meant velociraptor or tyrannosaurus ? :-)
Yes indeed! Ive had to say a few times in comments I meant tyrannosaurus ... lol.
Your stole that tight swing example from me!
I’ll put you in the credits:)
How does the first tip facilitate the transition so we’ll?
It allows space and time with the flow.
@@TheArtofSimpleGolf Sounds like a life metaphor. Thanks!
@@werquantum indeed it does lol!
Hi your right arm looks extended at the top. I'm struggling to quite make that position. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Can give head shot of wrist positions at address and take way. Please.

When I try this I find myself swaying on the backswing.
Turn your hips to start and don’t lift up torso too much
Pterodactyl or Tyrannosaurus?
