  • I have bipolar 1 and work full time. Here's how I'm able to do that. It's not always easy, but I found an employer and career that work well with my mental illness.
    Welcome to the second video in my new series called My Bipolar Guide! In this series I will show you how I approach different areas of my life based on my decades of having bipolar I. These personal guides contain lifestyle changes that help me keep bipolar symptoms to a minimum. I hope they help you in some way!

    I'm glad you have a situation that works
    I think people often take for granted just how tough "ordinary" life-activities can be, as long as everything is going ok
    Nice that you gave a mention for your good dog!

      THIS: “I think people often take for granted just how tough ‘ordinary’ life-activities can be, as long as everything is going ok”
      If I get a lot of comments I’ll pin this one at the top. Talking about my doggy didn’t hurt either. 😂

      I think for some of us with bipolar, working is positive and therapeutic. It is for me most of the time. The opposite can also be true. I hope your work continues to be good.

    I felt the scourge of the American work ethic since I quit working. I finally let myself be because several decades had gone by I suffered greatly from having no occupation. Luckily i am well enough to have things to do that help pass the time. I clean, play two musical instruments, read, walk and some other things. I live for free but I don't get much. I have plans on doing volunteer work with my music but I'm not ready. I really do want to give back and sympathize with people who can't work, though they may have things they can do like me. I also understand how some people can be disabled and not need much medication or are medication resistant.

    I always feel like I should take better care of myself, I think the only reason I get away with staying up late, drinking coffee etc is because I don't have a full time job anymore. I applied for disability but they said while they agreed I could no longer do the job I was doing due to stress and missed work days but that I could do something like work in retail. That a retail job would tolerate me missing work days etc... I am lucky my husband supports me and lets me do my music and stuff. I spend my days playing music and hanging with my animals. I'm so grateful that I have the opportunity to do that because I do volunteer and I've had to miss days because of depression or lack of sleep or whatever. It really stresses me out of course it is at an animal shelter so that is inherently sad. I love how you say buttery pants! lol Also you daughter and dog are so cute. You can see her picture in the background.

      I don’t see how any job would allow an excessive amount of missed days. Your disability should’ve been granted.
      Thank you! I realized that my daughter’s picture was in the video after the fact. But at least she is much older now. I’m sure you’ve seen her in my Instagram stories. ❤️

      You’re welcome. ❤️ So many jobs have remained work from home that didn’t used to be before COVID. I bet there’s a lot of variety out there. Good luck!

    I'm working full time with bipolar and it's really a struggle. I would love to work part time but I can't afford it. I have rapid cycling bipolar.

      I also wish I could afford to work part time, especially when I’m struggling with burnout or bipolar symptoms. That’s when I have to remind myself to take time off.
      Make a point to take more time off if you can. If I can’t, I try to cut down on stress in other areas of my life. ❤️

    Hi. How do manage your symptoms while parenting? I have a lot of mom guilt because my symptoms often prevent me from being the parent I want to be. Thanks for sharing. ❤

    • @ourbipolar
      @ourbipolar  Год назад +3

      I could probably do a whole video or even a series of videos about parenting. Maybe someday I will, but I’ll say this. I do my very best to not have symptoms for this reason. Of course I will still have symptoms, so when I do and cannot hide them, I ask for help. Be it my husband, parents, or a friend. I try to step away, even if only for a little while, so that I can get better as soon as possible with no stimuli around. The guilt will always be there, but I try to combat it by reminding myself how hard I work to be a good mom despite bipolar.
