  • Everyone from Madonna to top neuroscientists and millions of other people around the world report personal, unforgettable near-death experiences or NDEs. Do these NDE accounts prove the existence of a loving God? This week on Unbelievable? Pastor and author John Burke, who has studied and examined over 1,000 accounts of near-death experiences, explains these reports provide faith-building evidence of God and the Bible.
    Neurosurgeon Dr. Eben Alexander joins the debate pushing back on Burke’s assertion theses NDEs corroborate the Bible. He always considered himself a man of science. His unwavering belief in evidence-based medicine fuelled a career in the top medical institutions of the world. But then a very vivid NDE that he writes about it in his riveting book "Proof of Heaven: A Neurosurgeon's Journey into the Afterlife" changed his life forever. His NDE followed being pronounced ‘clinically dead’ after falling into a coma with bacterial meningitis. He moved from being a strict physicalist to being some form of dualist and talks with experience of a life beyond death. But he still would not describe himself as a Christian.

    NDEs are important connections with what lay beyond our material bodies. But I'd like to give a shout out to near-life-experiences. The first time I held my first born daughter, I felt 18 years go by in a moment. My breath was taken away. And 18 years felt not long enough to have her all to ourselves. Temporal perspective seems to be at times flexible during consciousness, and on a gradient among people. A gift from Him.

      The Bible says otherwise. When the Bible is compared with what people say about NDEs it is clear that NDEs don't represent reality.

    I agree with the idea that finding proof of God not only in the NDE experiences, but also in history. The Bible chronicles God’s encounters with humans. Burke makes sense.

      Also the little things some people experience throughout their life, making you believe that you are not alone and that we are all being observed. I have listened to some NDE which have left some very depressed. In the more recent cases, it sounds like it is all so beautiful, so amazing. And I wonder if the wrong doings, even evil like killing don’t really matter once we leave this physical experience. No hell. Being Spirit sounds so much better, what are we all doing here ?

      @@MsHumble4I understand what you are saying. Based on reading about numerous NDEs, I have often wondered if some of these things that we perceive as “evil” here on earth may very well be things that aren’t necessarily good or evil on the other side but things that have to happen here for some weird reason. I believe this is what they mean by do not judge others and do not judge their actions. I think this might be true because we have no idea what these people’s purpose is.

    So disappointed by the repeated use of the term "god-force" in the account given by Dr. Eben Alexander.
    Also perplexed by the description of a female angel.
    The Bible tells us about a personal GOD, not a god-force, and I don't know of any female angels in the Bible. In my opinion those two points contrast with what is revealed in the Bible.

The flood story from The Epic of Gilgamesh was rewritten as Noah's Ark, and other things were taken or rewritten from older religions. The bible also has false prophecies like how it predicted Tyre would be destroyed by the king of Babylon and not rebuild, yet it still exists even now.

      All translations of the word God are simply that- earthly language attempting to speak that which cannot be named-the I AM is how God presents Godself to Moses-The Word is how John begins his description of how God became flesh and dwelt among us. Language is limiting. God has no limits. Also, the “female angel” is a lovely surprise described in Dr. Alexander’s book that I hope you will read.” Now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face.” We will know the whole truth only when we meet God. Until then, let us be loving and appreciate the uniqueness of each one’s journey. ❤

    I have dabbled in the study of NDE’s for several years. My desire to know more started with the death of my father in 1994, and again after the death of my mother in February 2023. My studies began with a curiosity about death and the experience of it. Eventually, I began to look more closely at the ancient teachings, not just the Bible, but Buddhism, Judaism and Islam, and the ancient religions as well, and where they stand on death. Before I continue, I should add that I have had many supernatural and paranormal experiences throughout my life, that would include apparitions, OBE’s, and, maybe an NDE, though I can’t say for sure. What my studies and my personal experience has shown me is that God is, indeed, very real, and so …is Yeshua. What I found most confusing regarding everything I have gathered in studies and experience, so far, is the near death experience of hell. I cannot be dismissive of those who have experienced hell, but when they come back with their stories, most of them become very heavily rooted in Christianity and the concept that we must follow Christ or we’re doomed. While I can understand why they would do that, their message and experience is completely controversial to the other experiencers who see heaven; their experience may or may not include a vision of the Christ, but they are very clear about the true benevolence of our Creator. The strongest message that I have gotten from my experience and studies, is that true love for our Creator is the greatest gift, and one that we can impart to ourselves and all of humanity. That, of course, opens up another question on how we do that. For many people it’s difficult to understand how to love something that we cannot define, or see, but the depth of our Creator goes far beyond any words that any dictionary can offer, that of course is a conversation of another kind. Thank you for bringing this interview to us, Billy. It was very enlightening.

      There is a slight difference between them. One wants to show that everything positive about a NDE is what is in the Bible and Christianity (yet he ignores all the other evil things the Bible god does and threatens). The other is saying the NDE is not about earthly dogma, exclusivity, or religion but it is about love, inclusivity and the divine.

    The soul (Mind, Intellect, Memory) is eternal so the notion of after-life or pre-life is a moot point.
    When a soul departs the body, the body becomes a corpse. NDE's is when the consciousness of the soul has left the body, rather than the soul itself. Consider these experiences as visions from the subconscious mind.

    Interesting how this "spiritual body" experienced during alleged NDEs is not physical, but somehow "floats" over the physical body in physical spacetime while locked into the same planetary/stellar/galactic gravitational well. Also interesting that whatever ocular apparatuses these "spiritual bodies" have can only see the visual spectrum in a directed field of vision, like they have irises and retinas too. Hmm. 🧐

    • @mceajc
      @mceajc 16 дней назад

      Exactly! If some spiritual being is sensing the world around it, it ought to be detectable in the physical realm also - and as far as I know it is not. If you reliably pack a room with disembodied souls, the photons being absorbed by the souls to give them a view of physical space should cause a detectable dimming in the room.
      Without a theory of what a soul is, where it resides, and how many un-embodied souls there are, there can be no testable hypotheses, and thus the idea of a soul is meaningless - especially when there are perfectly god naturalistic explanations that we can test.

    • @scottjensen7555
      @scottjensen7555 15 дней назад

      I've had similar questions about an ocular seeing device and photon absorption. The key is setting aside the materialist mode of thinking, where matter is primary, and mind and perception are products of a brain. If mind is primary and the material world exists within mind (aka, the mind of God) visual perception doesn't depend on ocular devices and absorption of photons.

So this immaterial disembodied mind that's no longer stuck with irises and retinas (and the visual-processing neural network hooked up to those via the optic nerve) is somehow deliberately and persistently choosing to limit its immaterial disembodied perception to a specific electromagnetic spectral range and field of vision that just happens to coincide with those perceived by humans in both conscious and unconscious (oneiric) experience. 🤔

    55:32 - I wonder how John Burke explains the tens of thousands of people, including Christians, agnostics, Muslims, etc., who did not experience Jesus in their NDEs but felt Mohammed and other deities? Or people who experienced God but no other holy person such as Buddha or Jesus or Mohammed? The problem I have with his point of view is that it limits itself to western Christianity and the Abrahamic Bible and not NDEs from people of other faiths or experiences of Christians that did not see what he thinks the Bible describes. He seems to ignore these accounts. He also cherry picks the Bible verses that sound great and supports his point-of-view. All holy books speak about this loving god so I am not sure how the Bible is any different than other holy books. He ignores what Dr Alexander is saying in 1:01

      @@dfkuz that may be true.. you can only rely on Christian testimonies and everything else is highly suspect. The fact that many Christians do have them, it tells me that Jesus wants us to live a life of love and most pertain to that person. I realize that just “believing” he was the Son of God was important. But just as important was how we lived our lives.

    • @dfkuz
      @dfkuz 13 дней назад

      @@kentknight7538I'm not sure I'd rely on "Christian testimonies" either because there are too many other factors that can play into something that's so subjective. There are some people, even Christians, that are pathological liars. Just being a Christian doesn't instantly cure all our behavioral or psychological faults. To tell you the truth, I don't consider anyone that believes they can lose their salvation to even be saved because some of their faith is obviously in their own ability to stay saved. I often ask those that report NDE's where Jesus welcomed them, etc., if they can lose their salvation and you'd be surprised how often I get a "yes."
      There's only one thing God requires of us to be saved and that is that we completely trust in his Son, Jesus Christ, for our eternal life made possible by his death, burial and resurrection. Some that has believed that can literally kill someone and still be saved - it's that powerful and that radical! God expected his chosen people to show their faith by their works and their obedience, but when he let them go at the end of Acts, all of that was also let go. We are the lucky recipients of his new deal: Accept his gift of eternal life in Ephesians 2:8 & 9 understanding that it was made available by the cross work of his Son at Calvary. That's it; we can literally change our minds the next day and we'd still be saved!
      The trouble is that the Bible is a huge Book that covers a variety of relationships that God has had with humans. But we can't take it all and apply it to ourselves; that's when we run into contradictions! I see people try it all the time though! Pagans like us were never even noticed by God (unless he was helping the Israelites kill us) until he had to let his chosen people go (Acts 28:28-31); then he opened the door to a free salvation for the taking, no strings attached, available to all that wish to receive it: Ephesians 2:8 & 9 KJV. This gospel paradigm will continue right to and through the second coming of Christ when he suddenly "appears" on the earth (Colossians 3:4 KJV) and receives his kingdom (which I believe will be the whole earth restored to Eden-like glory), Colossians 1:13 KJV; and where all those that have ever belonged to God by faith will be translated to live eternally as the "one new man" of Ephesians 2:15 KJV. Sin was no longer an issue for us ever since the cross because Christ paid the world's sin debt in full; the only question that remains is "Do you wish to live forever in the kingdom of God's dear Son, or not?"

    1. People experience the same thing (and overlapping themes and visions) while on psychedelic trips. I think it’s either a brain trick, of a real plane of existence that we can’t usually access in normal waking consciousness.
    2. If only humans enter into this place after death, where/when did this start along human timeline? Are to the human cousins/ancestors also experience it? What about the Neanderthal/homo-sapien genetic hybrids? How ‘unhuman’ would a hybrid species have to be before they can’t access this realm?
    3: Penguins are not present in this realm but butterflies are? What’s going on there?!

    Just from a LEGAL PERSPECTIVE, how can God be a fair Judge if he allows only a fraction of the human race to experience the “truth” they claim is from him, and the rest are kept in the dark or are getting their supernatural information from the inspired scriptures that God gave as his final authority of faith and morals? Reincarnation is not supported by scripture; actually it’s just the opposite: Hebrews 9:27.
    I speculate that perhaps today’s humans are more easily able to go into the state of altered consciousness necessary for spirit beings (and God’s elect angels are on stand down during this dispensation of the mystery, Ephesians 3:9; Colossians 2:18 KJV) to produce a vision/locution in the minds of those in that altered state. Cui bono?

      The argument that God would be unfair to show some people the truth through NDEs while others have to have faith in the bible, can also be used against christianity itself. Jesus supposedly revealed himself to some men and his true nature, but everyone else just have to have faith in the bible, so that wouldn't be fair either.

    • @dfkuz
      @dfkuz 6 дней назад

      @@lovestarlightgiver2402Good point and I have considered that myself but had to come to the conclusion there was a necessity for human eyewitnesses while the Bible was being written and those witnesses needed confirmation/proof that would inspire them to record their experiences. If the nation of Judah had adequately recognized Jesus as the prophesied messiah, we would not be having this discussion; but they did not, and thus, the Lord of Glory is not physically with us on this earth plane (although he is supernaturally able to be everywhere at once); so while we wait for the day of his appearing here on the earth (Colossians 3:4), we are free to believe the inspired, preserved word of God or not; and of course, not believing it will mean that this earthly life is all we would receive. Our choice.

They know exactly what kind of paranormal experience you need to ensnare you into a false belief system! If the “Jesus” they show you is the one you then believe in and pray to, are you really a true Christian or just praying to a supernaturally-generated image (that probably looks exactly like Lucifer, just like the paintings we grew up thinking were realistic representations of the real Jesus…)! Is it because we are a generation of pixel images that makes so many of us check our brain at the door? Will we be the generation that falls for the “second coming” of an A.I. “Jesus”?

There have been experiments with flat worms that are taught where to get a food source, then their heads are cut off and they have to grow the brain back. They remember where the food source is. Consciousness isn't brain based, as per experimental evidence so why wouldn't people experience these things?

    John Burke with all due respect is trying to Christianize what’s going on here without considering the atrocious Hebrew God of the Old Testament and sometimes New Testament, which atrocities can hardly be considered that of “LOVE”. This is a problem. You have to go through primarily Jewish and early Christian MYSTICISM or Mandaean Sabean literature to find the Love and Light passages. Certainly NOT the 66 books of the King James. Gospel of Thomas is a good example as are many others. The horrific atrocities attributed to the Yahweh God etc… are not in alignment with what NDE love light experiencers report. The other point is what about reincarnation? This is explained away as well and even denied by the teachers in many thought schools. Reincarnation is a punishment to a material reality but if Jesus died for our sins, why are the reports of reincarnation so many? Reincarnation for punishment if Jesus sets us free? Thank you 🙏
