    When you said, "I like putting people off." It reminds me of the scene from MIB when they pull up to Edgar's wife's house and K says, "Slow down, Give her time to get the wrong impression. It makes things go a lot smoother."

    Seneca was a Roman senator who wrote a lot on Stoicism. The channel Vox Stoica has very nice readings of any of Seneca’s writings as well as the other stoics. You can even find a reading of the there!
    Anyway, thanks for doing all these videos and books throughout the years.

    In the chapter "Zenki", Dogen defines "Zenjii Senika" as the locus of enlightenment, and clarifies that this locus is not merely a specific point or object, but rather the entire body that realizes enlightenment.

      You should re-read Zenki. I did. There is nothing even remotely like that statement in the chapter. I don't recall anything like that statement in any of Dogen's writings. If you can tell me where such a statement can be found in Dogen's writings, I'll be interested to check it.

      @HardcoreZen  Месяц назад +1

      @@windnomade Look for Senika. He is referenced in the chapters Bendowa, Soku Shin Ze Butsu (Mind Here & Now is Buddha), and briefly in Bussho (Buddha Nature) and Shizen Bikku (Bikshu in the 4th Dhyana). It's not the Roman philosopher Seneca. The only standard Japanese word I know of that sounds like Senika is senaka, which means "back" (like where your spine is, not the back of an object).

    "Mind is mountains, rivers and the earth and the sun - but when we are not moving forward enough, or drawing back etc" What I hear is that when we are not fully part of our expression of mind, but rather separate from it, as in subject and object, then there is the delusion of difference.
    PS. Sometimes I notice that Brad is nuts, and this can be a bit of a barrier to listening to his teachings - but its the teachings I'm interested in, not his emotional reactions. For example, even if the greatest band in the world was to reform (Led Zep say) at age 50+ I would not be buying tickets. Jesus and Mary Chain were geat in the 90s but I only go to artsy sit down concerts now (if ever and only when my wife makes me)

    Beautiful breakdown of Catholic mystical perceptions of Jesus and Christ. As Richard Rohr says, Christ is not Jesus’ last name. Christ, for Catholic mystics and contemplatives, is wherever matter and spirit meet. So Christ is the universal expression of the 2nd person of the Trinity. Jesus is the personification of the Christ. Not what most Catholics are taught in Sunday school 😉

    No, no , no, idealism does not posit that mind is one thing and matter something else, separate to it, that’s dualism. In idealism the reality (everything) is of mental nature, thoughts, perceptions, bodies, rocks, stars and moon. It does not say there is no world out there, only that it’s not different in nature than mind. Check out some books or videos of Bernardo Kastrup, probably the clearest proponent of idealist philosophy to date. Thanks

  • @joshuabaehr44
    @joshuabaehr44 Месяц назад +1

    Loved the video, but you misrepresented philosophical idealism as a kind of dualism. Idealism is more the belief that the world's essence is mind and the world is made up of representations or manifestations of mind. Not an idealist personally, but I care about accuracy
