For me, it’s easily the most handsome camera I have on my shelf. Always the eye catch when people see it.

Good afternoon, I really liked your video. I have one like it and would like to learn how to use it. Could you make a video explaining how to use it, please?

Hello there, - nice shots of the church and as you say, they have that indefinable vintage look. I'm waiting today for a slightly earlier Contina to arrive in the post - an early fifties Contina 11 with Tessar lens, a folding model with uncoupled rangefinder. Difficult to go wrong with a Zeiss lens although condition is more important than brand! I also have a number of three element lensed cameras like your Novar and as said if in good condition can deliver just as good results as the "superior" four element versions like the Tessar. The great thing about cameras like these is they are nearly all quality built machines that are small enough to fit in a jacket pocket or so and as they say, the best camera you can have is the one that's with you ready to capture that moment now. Enjoy.

I like the images. 👍🏻 Flare is a part of the game with old lenses. One would belive that Zeiss had startet coating their lenses in the late fifties, but coating might wear of over the years. Thanks for all the great videos on your channel! Greetings from Oslo.

Very nice video! These German compacts of the 50s and 60s are as you say, high quality, no nonsense fun to use cameras. They're often forgotten, and hence cheap, so get one and try it out!

My very first camera. Well to be fair it was my dad's! Absolutely cracking images. Sadly I had seen a used Zenith E at Greens in Parkstone and dad traded his contina in to purchase that!! Would love to get another one and the ikophot light meter he had to go with it. Having seen your images I think there is probably an issue with the lens as I am certain these cameras will preform even better if all is well.

Hey i have a few questions regarding that specific model of zeiss contina as i have been unable to find manuals for the later versions of the 1a like you and i have. Only earlier ones that have different lens configuration.

Hello, I have one of these. It was my father's and I have it now and have kept it all these years. I have used mine when I was still doing photography but the shutter speed is stuck at 1/30, no matter what setting you choose. Looking for some repair shop that will work on this in the USA.

Hello. I was recently able to purchase such a 35mm camera from a local charity shop. The camera and also many add on accessories are in excellent condition, complete with all leather cases, sadly the camera shutter is presently locked, I suspect from not having much use at all. Can you offer any advice on this problem. ?

As always, enjoyed your video. This looks like a Contina Ib. I have the next camera in that line, the Contina Ic. Snagged it for a mere $15 at a camera show. It is a beautiful camera and works perfectly. I have a Zeiss Contax rangefinder collection. The fit and finish of the supposedly "low end" Contina is close in many ways to the Contaxes. I really enjoy shooting with this camera, especially since my particular model has a huge viewfinder that is basically 1:1. The 45mm Color Pantar is a triplet and performs well for a triplet lens. However, I think that this shows one of the main reasons why the Japanese overtook the Germans in the photographic world. The obvious question is, "why build a beautiful and competent camera and then put a lower end 3 element lens on it?" Why not for a couple of bucks more put the 4 element Tessar like the original folding Contina. At f5.6 and smaller lens opening, the Tessar can be incredible. The Japanese would have put a four-element lens on the camera. You want to hear something really strange. Just before Zeiss Ikon stopped making cameras, they produced the very nice series of Icarex SLRs. The Icarex came with the Zeiss f1.9 50mm Ultron (a real classic with 7 elements), the 50mm Tessar and the 45mm Color Pantar. It boggles my mind that while you have the first two incredible lenses, you can also get a low-end triplet lens for one of Zeiss Ikon flagship cameras. Think about the extra production costs added to the cost of the camera system. BTW, I think you needed to put a lens hood on the lens. It did seem to be a lot of flare in the photos. I don't know about fungus. Did you shine a flashlight though it? If you didn't see any fungus, it just could be the need for a lens hood. The lens hood is the same size that fits on the Contaflexes. Keep the videos coming.

Esa lente tiene una gran cantidad de hongos filamentosos, pueden verse a simple vista en el minuto 6.42 del vídeo. Novars o Pantars en buen estado y limpios son muy nítidos! De todos modos, muy bonitas fotografías.. . Gracias

I like to call that a 'glow' I have an uncoated Leitz Summar which gives a similar look under certain lighting conditions.
