Have you experienced something like this before?

Yes dude , I moved to Oahu 2 years ago & I never take it for granted. But , I do totally feel you on this. I make sure I take in what I'm viewing or experiencing. A swim in Waikiki looking at Diamondhead , going to North Shore & watching waves ect.... I never want to not be special for me .. as time goes by though we need to remember how lucky we are on these islands & never let those special feelings fade. Aloha bro.

I think of the old saying of 'Absence makes the heart grow fonder" in watching this video. Sometimes in life new things are so beautiful and inspiring at first, grow less as time goes by, you don't appreciate them as much. Thinking of others that are less fortunate always helps me appreciate what I have on a daily basis.

Hey Matt, Congratulations on the new family members and I hope you and your wife can get some sleep. My wife and I have been to Maui several times and have started to bring friends. We have done the road to Hana about 6 times. Our friends from mainland Canada love to see the waves crashing on the rugged coastline. We are from Newfoundland so my wife and I have seen a lifetimes worth of rugged coastline. We love to see the flowering trees and the waterfalls. There is always something beautiful to see. But the best part of Maui is meeting the local people. When you respect locals they are a very inviting community of people. Hope to get back this fall with an new group of visitors. Now living in Calgary.

    Hi Matt,
We live in Kelowna B.C. and we spoke previous.
For some reason people that live in the Kelowna area do not lose that appreciation for where we live.
We never lose that feeling of “awe” foe where we live every time that we cross the Okanagan lake bridge, or when we travel
Along the highway and see Kalamalka lake.
Life does get busy, I encourage you to always to take the time to appreciate that rock!!
    Tom

Definitely something I’m scared of. Moving there and eventually losing my love for nature and getting that island fever and wanting to leave.
    Thanks for the videos man

My pleasure! Even with everything I shared, I can honestly say that I haven’t gotten island fever here at all and wouldn’t want to live anywhere else 😊

That's something I thought about if I ever moved to Maui. I think it's human nature to lose our sense of what excites us and brings us joy, I've experienced that with my life. I have a house, the truck I always wanted, wife, kid, can afford all the toys I want, get to go on vacations a few times a year. Yet I have found myself feeling the same way, Sometimes I have to think about what it would be like to lose it all and I think about it hard enough to make me sad. I also take time to think about where I came from and how I didn't think I'd ever be married, or be able to afford a house.

I think it's inevitable unless you like to get out and explore. I've found beaches on Maui where I've spent hours without seeing another person. My wife and I have done hikes and had the same experience. Drive to a place you've never been and get out and walk. Some of my most enjoyable visits have been spending days exploring the backwater areas far from the tourist spots. And don't forget, you're a ferry ride away from Lanai. Say hi to Regina if you go!

Great advice Matt! I think we all need to go by this at some point or another no matter where we live. But if things really start to look familiar and a bit dull maybe you can try exploring other islands/cays in Hawaii 🤷‍♂️ that would also be a dope RUclips series!

Can you do a video and speak on the cost of living there? And how you go about daily life in Hawaii. I know it might be a crazy question but living in Hawaii has been a dream of mine but i have zero perspective on the reality of living there beyond the beauty...Also as always your quality in your videos is freaking beautiful 😍...you should have more viewers and subscribers....make a video "the cost of living in the real Hawaii", or " Welcome to the real Hawaii what tourist don't see"..shoot beautiful areas and the real raw areas that will bring in the views

From a recent transplant from the Midwest ((6 years) If you are coming from a medium sized city Under 200K than it was larger then the entire non tourist population of Maui. That said the activities that are not tourist related are defiantly throttled. Average travel speed for a car is around 20 mph when planning time between areas. Other than the waterfalls, beach, volcano, stars there is not much happening epically now with Covid lockdowns. Compare other than the weather to being in a small town on either cost with a 30 minute drive to either a big box store or a major grocery store. Unless it can come in iside a USPS flat rate box packages from the mainland either take a very long time or are insanely expensive to get here, (paradise tax) Opening rates for small boxes UPS or FedEx ar in the $30 range. Gas other than Costco is above $4.00/gal, Electricity is the most expensive by Kwatt. You can expect to budget over $4K/month for very basic housing and expenses.
