I was about 110-120 on standard QWERTY keyboards, but I recently switched to using a split ergonomic keyboard with ortholinear keys. Been working my way back to that speed for the last few weeks (currently around 70 wpm). It's heartening to see something like 150 is possible.

I finger pecked qwerty my whole life at 50wpm and just started Colemac (with proper form) at the beginning of this week and I’m already at 20 wpm. I changed my MBP keys around (broke 2) and downloaded Colemak to my iPad. I just purchased a moonlander and Corne LP w/ Chocs. I’m all in to fight RSI.

What kinda layout do you use? it seems that your fingers are in strange position that looks like my position when typing qwerty. Feels like it would defeat a great part of the ergo setup

If you like ergonomics try switching to Colemak DHm

Thats my plan, been using colemak dhm for a bout a week now and it feels way way better than touch typing qwerty

Do you get typos bcz switch is too light? I can't decide about the switch, Trying to get linears

It's March now, but I still make more typos on these 20g switches than on the MX-styled Aliaz 60g switches in my other keyboard. (I still like both)

@@off-brandkeyboardchannel2844 what do you like about the gChocs? I’m interested in these and curious your experience.

    • @off-brandkeyboardchannel2844

@@danielfitz Despite my preference, I'd guess that they'd be polarizing. They're suuuuuper light, so typing is done more so by hovering my hands over the keyboard and lightly tapping on the keys (other than holding, obv). That's rather than actively thinking of it as "pressing" on a key in the full-height switch sense, because bottoming out hard defeats the point of getting these, but is also very easy to do.
If you want a less jarring experience, the 35g Pro Red chocs are nice too. Despite the small number, they're not as easy to depress as you might first expect if you're coming from, say, 60g bottom-out springs on MX switches. Those two are the only chocs I've really given a shot.
Anyways these gchocs feel particularly "ergo" for me as it becomes extremely apparent whenever I dig my wrists into the desk (common habit I have). Neutral position wrists being about parallel to the floor being the objective + the desk/chair heights should enable you to have an arm angle of around 100 degrees while typing like that.
      - You might feel your shoulders getting tired more quickly floating your wrists all the time, which is also kind of good because it hints at taking regular breaks - also good, I still don't do that enough. I think resting elbows on armrests helps a ton in this regard though.
And months later, I still make more typos with these than any other switch!

@@off-brandkeyboardchannel2844 Thanks for the very thorough answer. Really appreciate it. I may pull the trigger on these because I like very light switches (currently using gateron clears as my daily driver).

Why would you not recommend playing osu!mania 7k on a split keyboard?

Low profile switches feel awkward for mania IMO. Also missing features like nkro and not 1000hz by default. For a casual player sure. Anything like 4* and above just feels strange on an ergo board like the one in the video.

what speed you get if you include punctuation and numbers in the monkeytype? I am building this style of keyboard soon but am wondering if the use of layers will murder my wpm (normally 120 wpm on standard keyboard but only 70-80 wpm at the moment with split keyboard)

    • @maxxiong

There is the possibility of using combos for symbols as well. I use an iris at the moment and I still have my combos for symbols setup which avoids the holding layer key too long typo common with the shift key. The only issue is if you type too fast then combos can trigger by accident, especially if you use an ergonomic layout rather than QWERTY.

    • @knoopx
      @knoopx 2 года назад

basic symbols and shift are usually on base layer and have dedicated keys (,.'/';). special symbols are on a separate layer very much like a regular keyboard.
