Greg was a very patient and nice guy when I bought a signed picture from him at Wizard World in 2010. I started having a bit of a fanboy moment telling him about watching wrestling with my father and instead of trying to wrap things up quickly he asked if I wanted the signature to include a shoutout to my dad. Glad to see he’s still doing his thing 👌
Greg is the classiest wrestler of all time. He always finds a way to shine up a peers shady story that doesn't throw shade on anyone. If he cant find a good thing to say about you, he wont say anything at all. A kind, peaceful soul.
I have been thinking the same thing as I just started watching his interviews, been doing a little binge watching! I watch a lot of the mafia related uploads and one of thee old timers that lived to be I believe 103 who served a 50 year bid in prison named Sonny Franchese he would never bad mouth anyone not even his enemies, they'd ask him so what was so and so like? He'd respond oh a good man great family guy. Is it true so and so made millions of dollars? I'm not sure I do not know that to be true. LoL!
I hated the Greg The Hammer Valentine when I was a kid. I love watching his interviews now. He did his job well now that I understand. What a great guy and a excellent wrestler. Miss the days of great wrestling. Take care of yourself Hammer and keep doing great interviews.
I live in Spartanburg, and as a kid, used to go to the Auditorium to see Mid-Atlantic and NWA wrestling and Greg the Hammer Valentine, Wahoo McDaniel, Johnny Weaver, Ric Flair...wonderful memories, Mr Valentine!!!
@@jeffdemarcus160 True. The Hammer was born 20 September 1951....this is from wiki; The first pro wrestling studio television show was taped on December 18, 1942 at WRBG-TV in Schenectady, New York, at a time when few Americans owned television sets. The earliest successful recurring wrestling program was Hollywood Wrestling in Los Angeles, which debuted on KTLA in 1947 and was syndicated in numerous U.S. cities by 1952.
Even by yesterday's standards, Roddy Piper and Greg Valentine's match was brutal and chaotic. They were world class contenders then and now. Long live the Rowdy one.

i got to watch the hammer wrestle in late 80's in portland, or. i had great seats and when he was ready for the figure 4 i did the whirl over my head and he looked me in the eyes, :D
As much as I hate to say it, this is like interviewing those old WW2 vets before they pass on. With the number of wrestlers from the 80s and 90s who are no longer with us and dying far too soon, these old warriors of the ring like Greg have such a valuable story to tell about an important part of Americana. I really appreciate the time he's spent recording his thoughts.
I loved to hate The Hammer when I was a kid! There were more heels a loved than baby faces and the hammer was and always will be in my top 3. Always reminded me of a human pit-bull. One of the all time greats!
Of all the A&E biographies. The Piper one was my favorite. Sad ending. Made me cry. But I gained a new respect for him on how he handled his business and it never effected his family. Dude was a pro.
My only issue with Piper was during his WWF run he only lost once cleanly, his other losses were either DQ or countout. WCW he was the same, he had an agreement with Hogan that he gets the wins but Hogan keeps the belt. The only person Piper put over was his cousin Bret Hart.
Piper would lose but he wouldn't allow himself to be pinned on TV. He was OK with losing at shows where only the crowd in the arena saw the match. Roddy didn't want to be one of the heels that hogan would beat and then move on to the next guy. Hogan has even said piper took care of himself first. That was the nature of the business then. Hogan did it too. I don't blame anyone for protecting themselves and trying to make the most money they can make.
I always had a love hate relationship with this guy as I knew he was a classic wrestler..but was mostly a heal.. And I always went for the baby face...but looking back This guy was GOLD thank you Gre Valentine for entertaining the WORLD...
I know it has been said a million times, but that Starrcade 83 match is such a masterpiece. Personally I first saw that dog collar fight on the "Greatest stars of the 80's" dvd set produced by WWE in 2005, and I just had to watch it 2-3 times that day, I was just blown away by the storytelling and the brutality of it. 👍
Piper put himself through so much punishment to sell his matches. In the end it cost him his health and maybe his life (like many others) he had a hip replacement too. I remember my father commenting to my uncle when my uncle said it was fake. "Staged or not they are putting their bodies through hell. Pro athletes from other sports don't put themselves through that" years later the fatalities piled up as famous wrestler after famous wrestler died at a young age, and those who didn't were crippled in one way or the other.
Nice! That was the first time I saw that match as well, sometime in the mid 2000s, maybe late 2000s, can't recall. That was actually a really solid DVD! Lots of amazing matches!
Greg “The Hammer “ Valentine is one of the first people I ever identified in my life as a professional wrestler. It’s wonderful to see him now as such a kind, thoughtful person. Thank you for your professionalism and dedication, Mr. Valentine.
Greg was so good at making you not like his character back in the day. That's talent. I like most fans, hated his character back than. Now we as fans appreciate him even more. Thank you for entertaining us all those years. Thank you for your stories now.
It is great to hear the stories from a legend in wrestling! I’m old enough to have seen him wrestle and he is a true sportsman! Best wishes to you Mr. Valentine!
I once went to wrestling in Portland Maine. I was waiting in the lobby for a ride after the show. Out of the locker room comes Greg Valentine with Sky Low Low. I looked at them and said "hi Greg" and he gave me a glare that could melt ice. It was still amazing!
I remember as a kid, I would buy Wrestling magazines in early 80's and the pics from Piper v Valentine match was brutal! The blood, my gosh Roddy's ear, and the chains! No matter who tried to tell me that wrestling was fake, after reading that article and seeing those pics, I KNEW the violoence was REAL! Greg is refreshing to me, all his stories from the road! He is such a legend to me!
Greg the hammer. As a small kid in early mid 70s. I so hated u. U was a true heel and a true legend. Although I hated u. I feared u. Ur style. U made me believe u were tough as nails. But they also had grudge match were 2 wrestlers had real beef they’d let them go at it in the ring but once they got there angry out they’d have to squash it after. It’s great to see a wrestling legend that is not jaded and filled with animosity: long live The Hammer!
Have you seen his other shoot videos? he’s usually complaining about something 🤣

Refreshing that he's not so bitter.

Spartanburg here too. I started going to the matches in 1965 and went pretty much every week until they ended in the late 80's.
Most people don't realize the hammer started when wrestling first began to be televised.
A true legend and pioneer.
Televised wrestling was huge in the Fifties, pretty sure he's not that old. He was there when cable took off.
