When Danny says "thats it" to me he means this whole thing from the build to the harvest to the wonderful fellowship and laughter of the cooking is what real life is all about. It gets no better for a human than this. Satisfaction guaranteed. Thank you for showing us what we are missing.
Danny and Wanda... as someone who's never seen sugar cane let alone how to process it, this has been been an incredible journey watching you go through this process. Thank you for sharing this experience!
Food always tastes better when you share it with friends. That syrup is red as a sunset. I know you are all going to enjoy that for the winter. Next year will be Pecan Grove syrup. All of these blessings from the friends to the sugar cane to the syrup are well deserved. Have a happy Thanksgiving.
Today is my birthday ,and this brought back memories when I was a youngin. We had 4 generations cooking syrup . Biscuits, grits, and pork chops. Youth is truly wasted on the young.
How Blessed y'all were to reconnect way back to your ancestors through your Cane Syrup making. A very HAPPY THANKSGIVING is my wish for each and every one of you.
A suggestion. Next time put a tarp on the ground where the cane comes out the mill. Will make it easy to remove the mashed stalks. Can drag the stalks away. Less messy handling.
Id try a piece of plastic or tarp or cloth cut to size under the cane just so gravel stays clean and not sticky. Drawing more bees wasps etc for days after wouldbe my luch. A groundcover might help prevent thst
Well done Danny and crew. That is some beautiful, awesome syrup. You did a fantastic job of building your furnace and the whole setup. You should be very proud of yourself. Thanks for sharing and all the folks who helped.
I remember as a small child watching old men in coveralls making ribbon cane syrup. There was an old mule providing power to the cane masher as he walked his circle. The men kept warm with a hidden bottle of whisky . The smell of cooking syrup was intoxicating. The craft was a thing of magic that has now been lost to time. The taste and memories of my childhood will always remain. Oh, how I miss those by gone days!
So glad that you have a tool that shreds the juice from your sugarcane what a game changer. My mouth was watering just watching you all stir that and put it in the jars. Thanks to everyone that helped with this process. God bless you all. Still got you in my prayers.🙏🙏
Oh what a wonderful time you all had. May I come next year to watch this process? I was probably 5 or 6 years old the last time I watched syrup making was done, with the use of a mule to turn the grinder. I truly would love to be there next year if you would allow it. I could bring ole Scarlett for a visit with you. Lolol That ole rooster is still doing his thing. He is living the life of Raleigh!! ❤😂
That was a lot of time and love made that day. So glad you had fellowship and help. I never would have thought the final color would be what the result was. Yum. Praise the Lord for what your work to cook it down and the growth He allowed.
That mill setup seems perfect. PTO gear is not too far off from what you might want. You may want to put a guard on that feed side, like a six or eight inch pipe.
❤❤❤That's a wonderful system! My great grandfather had a mule drawn syrup mill in Esther Louisiana that went into a Cypress trough that emptied into a huge cast Iron Kettle where the syrup was cooked & skimmed.
Great video! One for the ages. I haven’t seen syrup cooked since I was a young man, that’s quite a long time ago. I could almost taste it! Again great content, keep them coming.
That IS something else! Thanks for the Education Pilgrim! See you in New England, Plymouth Rock! 🦃🦃 I mean who knew, making your own sugar! or whatever!
I LOVE watching ya'll do these projects and learning how to do them. I always wish I could be there to help. Thank ya'll for sharing your wisdom with us❤❤❤. Praying your knee is getting better 🙏
Smart!!! No bees at night eh?! lol! Drink too much and it will send you running!!!!😂 I’m so glad you found an easier way to press your sugar cane then going round in circles like you used to!!!!
Hey y’all, I enjoyed watching this. For a couple years we grew sorghum and took our cane to Hughes Sorghum Mill in Young Harris, Georgia in the north Georgia mountains and made sorghum syrup. I was hard work but homegrown, homemade syrup is oh so good. Your syrup looks so good. ♥️ Thanks for sharing.
@@vickisavage8929 and you are correct, however I was able to brake through to someone yesterday 😁 while getting our Azure standard order I mentioned Deep South homestead and BAM like magic a conversation started then I brought up Pecan Grove started sharing. Maybe one day I'll crack the code get people being human again.
I love watching you do your syrup it reminds me when my dauber does maple syrup I'm glad Danny your able to sit and rest your knee while feeding the sugar can you have an excellent set up take care stay safe and God bless
Good Lord willing and the crop don’t fail, year after next you’ll have a better crop of cane - or at least a more varied one. It’ll be interesting to learn how different they are, both from the variety and from the soil. Maybe, down the road a piece, you’ll have some starts to share.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this process. I WISH I could grown sugar canes. I'd prefer that over buying unfortunately, I'm not in a location where I could grow any ☹. Thnk you for sharing! 😊

Can we get a tutorial on how Miss Cynthia makes the biscuits? Seriously, we need one.
I'll see
Gone are the days Ms. Wanda did circles with the side by side to squeeze the cane. Thanks for sharing 🙏 😎 🏝 🏖
What a fun day. A lot of work but great fellowship. The world needs more of this ❤
Danny and Wanda... as someone who's never seen sugar cane let alone how to process it, this has been been an incredible journey watching you go through this process. Thank you for sharing this experience!
The amount of effort you put into the build and the cooking is the cost of enjoying that rare taste . Well deserved success yall!
True, but the building of the infrastructure is a one time event. From now on, all it will need will be a little tweaking and maintenance.
Thank you Danny and Wanda, for the opportunity to watch how to make syrup! Your new cooker is wonderful. This is truly a lost art! Work day made fun.

Happy Birthday 🎂 🥳 🎉 🎈 🎁 🎊
Happy birthday.
Danny is beaming with pride as he passes on his knowledge. This will be your legacy, Mr. Danny.
How Blessed y'all were to reconnect way back to your ancestors through your Cane Syrup making. A very HAPPY THANKSGIVING is my wish for each and every one of you.
Great job! Having neighbors joining you makes it even better.
Good friends and good neighbors are the family you can choose.
Stainless steel, outside kitchen w/water, great weather, teamwork, good friends, and good food... what could be better for Thanksgiving.
In many cultures, there is a version of thanksgiving when the last of the harvest is finally in storage.
A suggestion. Next time put a tarp on the ground where the cane comes out the mill. Will make it easy to remove the mashed stalks. Can drag the stalks away. Less messy handling.
IMO, that IS a good idea!
It piles up to quick and has to be drug out of the way.
Id try a piece of plastic or tarp or cloth cut to size under the cane just so gravel stays clean and not sticky. Drawing more bees wasps etc for days after wouldbe my luch. A groundcover might help prevent thst
What a beautiful and fun day. I felt like I was right there with y'all. ❤

Choices always have consequences, and sometimes the unintended consequences are the best, the worst, completely unexpected, or any combination.

My granddad and great uncles used to use a horse, sometimes a mule, to squeeze out that "juice". Your way looks better. 😀
