This has to be one of the best final bosses in Kirby history. Normally, final bosses in Kirby games are against beings with limitless power that you have to stop from destroying the universe. Here, the stakes are more personal. Magolor isn't saving the universe or anything big like that, he is fighting a manifestation of his own evil in order to redeem himself. It's very powerful story telling and really stands out compared to other final bosses for this reason. It's also just more challenging that expected. It's rare for Kirby games to have an original, challenging boss fight that isn't just a pallet swap of a previous boss. I also really love the symbolism of the final attack, as well. This soundtrack's name is "Mistilteinn, Tree Crown without a Ruler." According to Norse mythology, Mistilteinn is a sword crafted from Yggdrasil, the world tree. The sword Magolor super sizes in his final attack is most likely Mistilteinn. I also believe that the master crown manifests Magolor's evil as a tree because it symbolizes "the tree of knowledge of good and evil" from the Garden of Eden. It makes sense, because there have been many parallels to the Adam and Eve story, with Magolor being representative of Eve for eating the forbidden fruit (choosing to be evil by collecting the master crown). I'd be surprised if apples weren't such an important item if they WEREN'T meant to symbolize the Adam and Eve story. So basically, Magolor destroys a tree of evil using a sword crafted from a sacred tree. That's just such a cool detail if my connections are correct.
The Japanese version of the game leans further into the biblical symbolism, with the Ethereal Alter being called the "Room of Eden" and all the mentions of his misdeeds being called his sins. Plus, in the design documents for Magolor's concept art, they specifically chose yellow due to its association with betrayal in Christianity through Judas, so Magolor could also be thought of as a Judas figure as well. Heck, if you consider Kirby a reincarnation of Void (the closest thing to God in the Kirby universe), then his betrayal towards Kirby would even further parallel that of Judas' role in the Bible.
Mistilteinn also translates to mistletoe, a parasitic plant that latches onto a tree and takes its life and nutrients, which is basically what the Master Crown is currently doing.
They really made microtransactions into a boss, huh.
The true evil
Super Star Ultra came out when I was eleven.
And now fifteen years later, we have Return Deluxe.
I love Kirby remakes.
me too
please keep the title, AND DO NOT CHANGE IT. what if people haven't played the game and suddenly they are spoiled by a fucking title? at least wait 4 years.
i hope you're joking lol
@@Polina_Lozenkowhat is there to joke about?
@@igottakirbranger8995 4 years, really?
@@Polina_LozenkoI expect most people would’ve played by then, also what are the chances this would be recommended to someone 4 years later?
