Awesome show guys. I still have my very first VHS , Action Force The Movie, but all my others have been long replaced by DVD and even Blu Ray. Ian's story of working in Blockbusters , reminded me of a bit of my own on the entertainment counter at woolies. I kept back a few limited edition dvds for myself, not letting them anywhere near the public!!!! 😂
Great show. Many thanks, Dan, Tzvi, Ian, Chris, Gary and Jon. I've just been catching up. I tuned in towards the end, after watching 1935's The Desert Trail starring John Wayne. It was one of those partwork magazine DVDs, that I bought with several other John Wayne films last year in a charity shop's 4-for-£1 deal. I got this just to make up the numbers, not expecting much from it, being such an early one, and only 54 minutes long. The picture quality was terrible. It must've been from an earlier VHS release as the top of the picture kept bending across to the left. There wasn't even a menu page; the disc started playing straight after I put it in. And do you know what? I really enjoyed it! It's not going to win any awards or feature in any John Wayne fan's top ten list, but it was just roundly entertaining. A good script, a straightforward good story, with good performances. For the picture quality, I ought to re-donate it and rely on YT for a rewatch, but things do tend to disappear from there, so I expect I probably won't.
Yes, the partwork DVD sets are curious things! Undoubtedly cheapo jobs. But probably did scratch an itch for a lot of people. I see them all the time at car boots. Of JW, Elvis, Clint and others.
@@thespacebook The other John Wayne films in the same partwork range, however, are all excellent, being genuine Universal, 20th Century Fox and Paramount ones, but with matching paper covers. I amassed quite a nice little collection for just a few quid, getting at the same time in the 4-for-£1 deal Season One of Murder She Wrote, a 6-disc set. Not a series I'd ever seen much of over the years. I enjoyed it, re-donated it, and then found Season Nine in another charity shop for only £1, so I've now started on that.
Enjoyable stream thanks Dan, Ian, Jon, Rabbi, Retro Doc and Bowlestek The Millionairess (1972) a BBC Play of the Month starred Maggie Smith and Tom Baker.
This Podcast is fast becoming a must watch for me along with Jon's excellent Channel. Covering all Classic Media and Movies & TV in an informative and entertaining manner. As a sidebar I miss real good mushy peas ( here in Australia good ones are hard to get. Being Welsh born ...Faggots and peas are a much missed staple ( unfortunately mention of " faggots" here is met with a puzzled look ). However here in South Australia we have a somewhat infamous mushy pea meal ( usually served from a food van in the early hours after a night out ). We call it a "Pie Floater" It's a delicious Australian meat pie served upside down in a plate of mushy peas, usually topped with Tomato Sauce. Food of the God's👍 PS on an amusing side note this post came with a warning from RUclips regarding language. I am assuming the "F" word served with Peas in Wales is the culprit. pps note to Jon regarding your kind invitation to appear on your Channel. If ever you have an episode discussing Columbo, count me in. That's definitely in my wheelhouse
Hi Doug Thanks for the great feedback. Oh Columbo will be reviewed on my channel so I will keep you updated. As for this channel and friends well they make it very easy to have fun! 🙂👍
@@Timelordsboots Nice one. Columbo is the best. It's peak was definitely the 1970s shows the Guest Murderers were just better, but Falk was always excellent. However he kept making Specials up to about 2003. There were some gems in the later ones though. Billy Connolly plays a Murderer in " Murder with too many notes'. You probably know this but a very young Steven Spielberg directed an early episode" Murder by the Book" with always excellent Jack Cassidy ( David's Dad).. I recently found the very first Falk Columbo movie in a charity shop( based on a play) " Prescription Murder".Gene Barry is the Murderer. It's really interesting as Falk hasn't quite nailed his performance as Columbo yet ( he's still excellent). There's one scene where he gets very angry, not a common Columbo behaviour. I definitely think the best villains ( who often appeared several times as different characters) were... Robert Culp, Jack Cassidy and the legendary Patrick McGoohan. Anyway I'm rambling I could chat about Columbo for ages. By the way I'm looking forward to your next Indiana Jones chat on your channel. Your Channel and the Space book are the prime viewing for this old Boomer. By the way I'm about to do my 100th video for my channel and I'm trying to take the leap to get over my camera shyness ( see how I feel)
My favourite Maggie Smith films are The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, Murder by Death, California Suite, The Missionary and A Private Function. She played the title character in 1984's Lily in Love, opposite Christopher Plummer, a film that I've not seen for well over thirty years, but which I remember being very good indeed. I really must seek it out. 1983's Better Late Than Never used to be on TV fairly regularly in the 1980s and 90s, but has since disappeared. In that she starred opposite David Niven and Art Carney. Another I should hunt down. I recently bought 1967's The Honey Pot on Blu-ray, starring Rex Harrison, with Maggie Smith sixth down the cast list. I've not watched it yet, I've never seen it, but in a sale for a fiver I was very happy to take a chance. I'm sure that her scenes alone will more than justify the purchase price.
@@thespacebook Michael Palin wrote and starred in The Missionary, while Alan Bennett wrote A Private Function, which again starred Michael Palin. Both highly recommended. John Normington from The Caves of Androzani and The Happiness Patrol is a nice bonus in A Private Function.
Speaking of Columbo, I'm currently partway through the first season of one of his Mystery Movie stablemates, Banacek. It's not as good as Columbo, obviously - what is? - but I'm thoroughly enjoying it. Margot Kidder was in last night's episode and she was superb!
CD mate👍 Banacek was the best! George Peppard really looked like he was enjoying himself in this excellent show. I have Season One it's great viewing. Despite being a huge fan of The A Team I always felt for George playing second fiddle to Mr T. Nice choice
I tried Quincy MD, in the hope it would contain some of the Columbo magic? It didn't. Despite Klugman himself being great, the series itself seemed so bloody dull and generic.
@@thespacebook I have never seen Quincy MD. When it was originally on I must have always been watching something else on the other side. If you want something good, you should try Ellery Queen. It's from the same writers as Columbo. Ask Gary, he's got it. The same people created Murder She Wrote, which is why I bought Season One in a charity shop. Ellery Queen is much, much better.

Mushy peas rule! Have to be tried to be believed. In fact, I've not had any for several months and may have to correct that soon.

I love Banacek - got both season DVDs years ago, it's always a fun rewatch.
Look at this panel of gorgeous men! And that includes Chris, I’ve seen his picture. 😉
Haha - thanks for watching and supporting us ... and our egos Vanessa!
Thanks Vanessa I did my hair for the show especially. 👌😆
Dan does a John Wayne reference? What world is this?
I have always adored Maggie Smith. Sheer class and fun all wrapped into one woman 🙏❤️
yes, I don't know what came over me haha
