- Electric Power Door High Performance Blast Door in action. This door is about a mile underground at the Sanford Underground Research Facility in Lead, SD. This hydraulically operated blast door needs to close against high ventilation pressures and withstand multiple blasts during excavation and tunnel expansion.

If I were to make a wild guess, considering I know nothing of what this is, it may be vents, to prevent lack of oxygen, and to allow explosive pressure to decrease in a controlled manner
This is absolutely based on no evidence, but this is just a guess
Because the door is used very commonly those “filling cabinet” looking things make it easy for chunks of the blast door to be replaced as it’s worn down or damaged, instead of having to replace the whole door.
That would be my guess

My guess is really really heavy steel, that had to be shipped in chunks because it's to heavy to transport as one piece.

so how do they open it back up with rubble piled up against it
Hydraulics. There wouldn't be enough rubble against it to completely obstruct it, but in the case that some has been thrown against it and is laying at the base of the door the hydraulic arm pushing the door is more than enough to shift it.

Why is there a 68 mph wind? Why install an expensive blast door when you can just have people leave the mine for the blast?
It may be several miles and an hour's journey back to the surface, with no where for it to go a blast would follow you all that way and pancake you. Easier to just contain the blasts by compartmentalising the mine in to sections.
Sometimes the simplest thing imaginable isn't the best solution
