Can someone explain to me why Great Britain are in this competition when they represent three countries .. England, Wales, Scotland. In some definitions of Great Britain Northern Ireland is also included. Regardless of whether GB consists of three or four countries why has this been allowed? Why can't England, Wales, Scotland submit their own teams??
Budget. Especially after Covid, the nations were struggling individually to finance their rugby 7s programme, whereas Team GB has lottery funding, so it made more sense from a money standpoint to combine them. Theoretically, this should have made an all-star team as they had the best athletes from all 3 nations to pick from. so this would allow them to train together ahead of Olympiad events, where they've traditionally participated as GB.
@@richardmatatahi4563 Because the UK is recognized by the UN and as such, is the only National Olympic Committee in that region. The individual countries don't have NOCs, and you need an NOC in order to be invited to the Olympics.
@@GetStronk Many recognize themselves as being English not welsh scottish or Irish So because they are the only NOC in that region they can bend the Rules and combine and all other countries are invited to compete at the Olympic's by the NOC and ain't members countries? Yet they compete as individual countries at the Commonwealth Games. Really sounds like you can make the Rules up as you go along up there.
Thank you World Rugby for these Full Match videos. I literally spent all day watching London Sevens. What a treat!
Thanks for posting
I’m happy for the lads they played very well against this very well rounded American side

It's because it's now an Olympic sport I think. Great Britain competes in the Olympics and this is part of the build up.
