Damn, I just finished reading "Running with the Kenyans" and it takes place in Iten! It's really nice to have video visuals to put with that book. Also it shows exactly why Kenyans absolutely dominate racing, and altitude is only a very small part of the whole picture.

Now you have to enter a marathon. Try Safaricom in Lewa. It's awesome. You'll get to meet and maybe warm up with the Kenyan national team. Great turn out of locals. GRUSOME altitude course with THE most amazing views, elephants walking along the path, giraffes that may raid the oranges at the water stations, maybe even a lion who will come to watch you!!!

You have reminded me of my visit to Kapchorwa in Uganda where the likes of Cheptegei trains. I did a duathlon and the 10K of the run felt so so so hard. My HR was over the roof. I am excited for you Ben! I live in fairly high altitude -- about 4500 feet. It is an adjustment. Yes you will have to work harder but you will get used to it. I can be up at 7000+ feet in no time at all here. Definitely have to put your ego in check for a bit. You'll get a boost when you return back to the UK and I think you'll be stronger as a result. Excited to see where this takes you Ben.
