Thanks so much. I've been having such a difficult time acquiring smooth cadence when attempting to speak Sanskrit. I've also enjoyed and benefited from your recorded lectures. I consider myself very lucky to find these gifts. :)
@@theexiledrealmofaffirmation You just used grammar to change my passive voice statement into an active voice statement, by interchanging positions of verb and noun. How does it mean anything different? And also, Yoga is not an art, its a scientific discipline. Sutra 1: Atha Yoga-anushasanam --> Now the 'discipline' of Yoga is explained.

Hello, thank you so much for this beautiful chanting of the sutras. I have listened to it many times and it has helped with my own chanting in my study of the sutras. Could you please tell me what you are saying in the very beginning after you chant "Patanjali yoga sutra pada"? It sounds like "pratamo dhyaha," and I would like to understand what it means. Thank you for your help!
Frankly it does not matter when - it is a succinct set of sutras for what Yoga is all about - what the union of the "drushtu" - the seeker, and the universal consciousness or God is going to be / feel like. It is a detailed process laid out of how one ought to go about while discovering one's true self and one's relationship with Brahman.
I have only listened to the beginning of the first chapter. I noticed that your version is different from versions I checked (Swami Vivekananda, BKS Iyengar, Salvatore Zambito): I.10 your version has an additional "tamo" I.26 your version has an additional "esa" I would be interested in the origin of these discrepancies. Thank you.
Those are conjoiners. For example, In Swami Vivekananda's commentary, in 26th sutra, "esa" meaning "this, here" is not included because that word is redundant. Similarly, in Pada 2, Sadhana Pada, sutra 3 has an additional "pancha"kleshah, which makes it clear/obvious that there are 5 types of kleshas, however the number of which need not be specified as the 5 kleshas are verily mentioned in that sutra. The conjoiners are added or removed to suit the flow of the chant when verbally spoken to make it sound complete as opposed to when they are read to grasp the meaning, where they can be removed without affecting the meaning.
@Michael Evces sorry for the late reply. Tamo probably means ignorance or darkness. Tamas means lowest quality out of the three, viz sattva, rajas and tamas. So tamoguna becomes quality of ignorance or darkness. Tamoghna means destroying darkness or ignorance. In that sense, 'tamo-vrittir-nidra' here might stand for the state of deep sleep which is one of the mental modification arising thus out of ignorance or true nature of reality. In sutra 4 it becomes clear that identifying with mental modification(vrittis) is a state of ignorance for then the seer no longer rests in his own unmodified true state. So deep sleep being one of the vrittis implicitly means that it arises out of ignorance, thus tamo can be avoided without loss of generality. This is what it seems to me.

0:16 Yogash chitta vritti nirodhah -- योगश्चित्तवृत्तिनिरोधः ॥२॥ -- Yoga settles the mind into stillness
This sutra defines Yoga: Yoga is restraining(Nirodhah) the mind stuff(Chitta) from taking various forms(Vrittis) (Swami Vivekananda)
Thank you so much for pointing out my favourite line from the entire sutra!

Hi, very nice chanting. Can I listen to it while I do my entire ashtanga yoga practice or just for surya namaskar routine?

@@akshaykulkarni9889hank you for that insight! I think however that “tami” in 1.10 is not a conjoined? yes?

can i ask sth? what is all of these words told you about?
Hi, Ananta Pratama.
These all words say about how to get great peace by god.
Yoga sutra tells you about the methods by which you can attain to self realisation, that is knowledge of the true self.
It does not follow the intonation
@@mohlibom339 sorry, if you were looking for a compliment, then I would say... Well done! Nice effort.
