Do you have an interesting point or just drooling on the keyboard. Maybe some articulation would make you sound less- you don't need me to say it.
Not a shredder though. Technically Marty isn't a shredder cause he can't alternate pick to save his life but he does play neoclassical which lynch doesn't do.
Marty can alternate pick with the best of them he just doesnt do it very often anymore. The last few runs in the Tornado of Souls solo are a perfect example of this.

At last, the Swedish master tops the list. As it should be. He is the game changer, the reason why most of these greats are great. Long live the great Viking with the Strat battle axe.
planet6 ha guy... the kid down the block might be better than all of these guys. Tell him I said hi and to just keep playing what he likes. Fellow 60 yr old guitarist. John 3:3-6
Tosin Abasi is a guitarist that absolutely blew me away. Not long ago I went to the Generation Axe concert where I had the pleasure of seeing Yngwie, Zakk, Nuno Bettencourt, Steve Vai and Tosin Abasi. You had four heavy weights up on stage and then a relatively unknown guitarist to the general public in Tosin Abasi and not only did he steal the show for me, but it was much more enjoyable for me to sit through as opposed to Yngwie. Don't get me wrong either I LOVE Yngwie, Zakk, Steve and Nuno, but there was something special about how Tosin played and how embraced the stage.
Rhoads is not really a shredder...in fact, maybe insulting to him. Friedman you can lump in with Becker, they are practically the same players. Darrell was just not all that popular to most and his look was sort of off-putting. Pantera was never mainstream imo and that is why he is not in top 10. Rhoads is certainly not a shredder, his runs are brilliant to this day, but I think he would rather be known for his influence of classical into rock, much like Malmsteen, but Malmsteen thrived on being the fastest.
T Meo Friedman and Becker the same? C’mon dude, Becker is a bonafide classical genius, and an insane technician on the guitar. Marty’s more of a metal guy with a unique soloing style. Darrell and Pantera were wildly popular, he just doesn’t stack up to a list of virtuosic players like this.
Not sure it's fair to add Guthrie to the list, as all the others are actually human. Guthrie is clearly a fucking alien. Nothing human can play like that...
Way, way higher. If not #1 if we're just talking about shredding. Not only can he play like 5,000,000 notes per second, but all of the notes are well-chosen and 100% clean sounding. And for some reason, this video shows some of the least impressive clips from ALL of these guitarists. It's weird. Like they put Buckethead above Petrucci. I mean, I loves me some Buckethead, but he simply can't shred like Petrucci can. This list is supposed to be about the best shredders. And come on now, Michael Angelo Batio above Petrucci for best shredders?? Dude... what? And Eddie Van Halen. Come on, he's a good guitar player, but he's not in the top 10 of shredders. Much less #3. But seriously, if we're talking pure shredding, JP should have been #1 out of all the guys in this list.
Absolutely. John Petrucci is the peak of all this shredding thing. It started by Ritchie Blackmore, revolutionized by Eddie Van Halen, pushed by Yngwie Malmsteen, improved by Steve Vai and finally perfected by John Petrucci. Then continued by young guitarists such as Misha Mansoor, Tosin Abasi, and the likes. John Petrucci to prog and metal is like Jimi Hendrix to blues and rock. He's also a riff god and wrote many 7 string and shredding classics giving the big guitar and shredding as a style some musical legitimacy. When 7 string guitars just got popular most other musicians only used it to do the chugging thing or for downtuning convenience. JP wrote symphonies with it! Many other shredders shred the guitar as if it's a violin or a piano. JP shreds and he does it really without having to mimic monophonic instruments. So as far as shredding goes, he really is #1!
For me, only 4 guitarists revolutionized the guitar: Chuck Berry; Jimi Hendrix; EVH and Yngwie J. Malmsteen. All the other guitarists were influenced by these.
I can name many guitarists more influential than malmsteen off the top of my head. brian may, jimmy page, eric clapton, richie blackmore, SRV, jeff beck, toni iomi, david gilmour...etc etc.
@@sdmfjason if we're talking about technique I can also list many players better than yngwie... with all due respect to him he doesn't belong in either conversation.
Arnold Moore There's no way Petrucci would put himself before Satriani though, Satriani is a huge role model for Petrucci, they are good friends, and Petrucci realizes Satrianis musicality is on a whole other level
Eric's tone is far nicer than Petrucci's. Everyone spergs out about JP but his sound now is boring and his fast runs are like a robotic Al Di Meola. JP has gotten stale, Richie Kotzen, Tosin Abasi and Guthrie are superior.
Leo B I've always enjoyed them both to an equal level; Joe especially never sounds the "same." John is so modest he said once there's players better than him but he didn't elaborate.
2 solo recordings, two albums with Marty Friedman and one David Lee Roth album, but he left a lot of great guitar playing in his wake. I'm listening to his songs right now and they are too cool.
OffLeatherWings I'm as shocked as you are. Still can't believe how people underestimate the way both Tosin and Javier are pushing up the ante for modern guitar players.
Epic Compilations the list is made up of artists whom have accomplished much in their career. Gifted writers as much as they are skilled guitarists. Tolsin is fast... and thats all you can say. Personally I feel his music lacks emotion. Which is a nice way of saying it sucks.
Replace Satriani with Malmsteen, jesus. You may love or hate Yngwie, but its really irrelevant, the man is literally synonymous with the art of shredding, the pioneer of the neo-classical shred style that dominated the 80s virtuoso style.
Buckethead #5 ?? He's #1 in my book. He's not only one of the greatest guitar players that has ever existed but in my opinion one of the greatest musicians of all time.
Hessel van der Wal Satch had taught many, and could hold his own. "Back to Shalla Bal", "Satch Boogie", and "Surfing with the Alien" were fast enough with tapping, and showing what an Ibanez can do... Before Vai showed up. That being said, your point is also valid.

Even Dave Mustaine said that Darrell dimebag was an insane guitarist! He said he was better than him, and Dave Mustaine is pretty good! I've learned a few of his songs. It took quite a while! He uses a intricate methods in his playing. Not your typical power cords.
Fr dude Dimebag was an absolute legend
Phucking Hell, Dimebag was smashing records since he was 10yrs old...why isn't he on this list??
@@doose911 Dave Mustaine said Buckethead is twice as good as Slash and him combined. Which makes him better than Dimebag Darrel...

"Eengway Molmsteen"
It's Eengvey Malmsteen guys.. C'mon..
this fella may as well said yang-wee... gracious
Mojo has always lived off of controversy, false news and absurd rankings. Mispronouncing, knowing how to leave out greats and agitating fans are ways to get you to click and respond to their top tens whether it's good or bad. They do it well for a like, share, and subscribe...especially for well over 3mil views
u forgot the 'J'
Are you trying to say in some inarticulate fashion that Yngwie is not known for being a shredder? Love to know what he's known for thien. Perhaps Georgia blues of the 1960's? Do you have an interesting point or just drooling on the keyboard. Maybe some articulation would make you sound less- you don't need me to say it.
Jake E Lee, I feel should be on this list!
YESSS, he’s so underrated and honestly so much more tasteful than some of these guitarists on this list, in my opinion of course.
Plus he had the best tone ever. Shot in the Dark is Ozzy's best song!
I feel bad for jason becker he is a legend
George Lynch was one of the very best
Not a shredder though. Technically Marty isn't a shredder cause he can't alternate pick to save his life but he does play neoclassical which lynch doesn't do.
Marty can alternate pick with the best of them he just doesnt do it very often anymore. The last few runs in the Tornado of Souls solo are a perfect example of this.
Lynch is still alive is he not? Lol
@@ZFlyingVLoverMarty says he isn't interested in shredding like a maniac any longer and opted for more creative melodic style
Robert Olson not at shredding
Yngwie Malmsteen is actually crazy in real life but the man is a true guitar god
He loves wine...a little too much...
Agreed
not true at all about him being crazy but a legendary guitarist for sure
You should listen to a recording on a plane, an attendant poured water on him. He went ballistic, started swearing. Said she released the fury, and said and I quote. "See you in tokyo b*tch. He really has a massive temper.

I'm glad they gave Shawn Lane an honorable mention. Many of these guys looked up to him in his day and aspired to play at his level. There's a video floating around in the RUclips vaults where Pettrucci attempts to play Lane's style and speed of shred and fails and Gilbert calls him scary.

Marty friedman, Joe Satriani, John Petrucci and Paul Gilbert should be on the top 5. I mean besides speed, they have melody. Their playing is eargasmic. It is not only speed that counts
You're absolutely right there.
Bang on!
By that logic, Gilmour should be on all these lists.
THANK YOU
Well it’s kinda about speed when shredding tho?
Tosin Abosi, Rusty Cooley and Chris Impelliteri. A couple of my favorites. Need a part 2,3,4,5 list haha! Would have also been nice to see George Lynch and Dimebag on this list.
How's it gonns be
Lynch is highly underrated.
Axel Rudi Pell as well
Good choices. Michael Romeo of Symphony X is another one to stand amongst these guys.
Rusty Cooley, such a beast!
WHERE THE FUCK IS JEFF LOOMIS NOT EVEN A HONORABLE MENTION
Darth Bieber IKR..
Fuck ! he is the man to represent earth, if there was a shred war between The Planets..
Watchmojo don't know shit !!
loomis should def be in eddies spot, EVH is super over rated
Thought it was strange they showed him but didn't include him. Oh well, at least he's been credited. Maybe some of these normies begging for A7X on the list will look him up and discover miles of machine, and finally see what a real guitarist plays like.
Darth Bieber have you heard any of the live stuff from 75-78? If you havent then go watch some, and the you can come back. Let's see what you have to say then
Cornelius Larsen of cause I have heard Val Halen live he doesn't compare to Jeff loomis

Brian Wise Herman Lee. that's who I thought was gonna be number one.
Brian Wise You mean GUYS. Herman Li and Sam Totman.
Brian Wise Just because you can play a piece of shit quickly doesn't mean you are a skilled guitarist. I could strum a guitar frantically fast, but it doesn't make me good because it sounds like shit.
Chris Sharpe i actually like dragonforce. not just through the fire and the flames. yes that was the song that got me hyped about them but they do have several great songs to listen to.
Chris Sharpe this is the who can play really fast list.
Both Petrucci and Satriani should've been ranked way higher.
fr satriani not only played great but also taught many famous guitarists
Different animals. Petrucci is a composition. Watch is ok
Satch is ok
Bob Ravenscraft Satch is ok??? Lmao. Satch is one of the best guitarists on the planet. I'd say that is pretty "ok"
Joe satriani should be and is top 3 to ever touch a guitar period.
Ritchie Blackmore , Michael Schenker , and Gary Moore come to mind ...of course this really could go on for so many more.
They're not shredders. Especially Gary Moore

I guess they didn't include Randy Rhoads because he was in a class all by himself.
Damn right. He was just a kid and did all that he accomplished. He’s #1 on my list.
At last, the Swedish master tops the list. As it should be. He is the game changer, the reason why most of these greats are great. Long live the great Viking with the Strat battle axe.
What about the kid that lives down the block from me? He is badass!
planet6 ha guy... the kid down the block might be better than all of these guys. Tell him I said hi and to just keep playing what he likes. Fellow 60 yr old guitarist. John 3:3-6
Is his name Ing-WAY?
Not surprised Tony Mcalpine is really good also.
Yeah, especially with CAFO, that absolutely blew me away

Randy Rhodes, Dimebag Darrell, Marty Friedman
3 issues
1: it’s pronounced ingvay not ingway
2: where’s Guthrie Govan
3: where’s Herman Li
Not sure it's fair to add Guthrie to the list, as all the others are actually human. Guthrie is clearly a fucking alien. Nothing human can play like that...
Where is Allan Holdsworth...
@@petermckimm8334 haha i think that's fair, he's in a superior division, he's not a human
Herman li could barely replicate his own solos live though
As an actual swede i can say that no, its not pronounced Ingvay.
John Petrucci should've been higher
agreed 1 trillion percent
He can be # 1 if you think about it.
@@anonymous-pb7dy And yet they all have trouble keeping up with yngwie. Yngwie is a different breed and is much better.
@@sdmfjason if we're talking about technique I can also list many players better than yngwie... with all due respect to him he doesn't belong in either conversation.
What about ed sheeran?
For some other older guitarists who were influences. John McLaughlin and Carlos Santana.
No shred list can't be complete without Chris Impellitteri in it.
Absolutely!
Buckethead is quite an underrated guitarist. Glad you included him in your video

Eric Johnson as just an honorable mention is a travesty. He had the best tone and sounded the most musical of anyone on this list.
Well this is all subjective but he doesn't do anything for me. I can play minor pentatonics over and over myself.
You can here Guthrie Govan and Heri Joensen playing in the background.
Great list !!I especially love seeing Petrucci on this list
Thougts about MAB:
non guitarists: crazy guitars
guitarists: speed and accuracy through two way pick slanting
No Nuno Bettencourt? I figured he would make honorable mention :(
Anna Gyure I said the same for Alex Skolnick
And no Richie Kotzen!
Anna Gyure was wondering how many comments I'd have to go through until someone finally asked that same question!

I think all the guitarists on this list were extremely good
Still cant believe Jason was 19 when he did Perpetual Burn... Pure genius
2 solo recordings, two albums with Marty Friedman and one David Lee Roth album, but he left a lot of great guitar playing in his wake. I'm listening to his songs right now and they are too cool.

Exactly! Tosin is hands down the best guitarist alive right now. Their music lists are utter shit.
Epic Compilations the list is made up of artists whom have accomplished much in their career. Gifted writers as much as they are skilled guitarists. Tolsin is fast... and thats all you can say. Personally I feel his music lacks emotion. Which is a nice way of saying it sucks.

Blaze Gulisack I agree, satriani taught some of the greatest shredders out there. I'd say he's definitely underrated. You gotta look at complicated scales and technique he uses when he plays to truly appreciate him
