Oh yeah, I almost forgot neutral ships usually have their lights on. Now Sea Power needs hospital ships. Also, some of the improved Styx missiles have +40 nmi range
"Why do you guys have to blend with the neutrals?" Said the US fleet commander to the Vietnamese kommunists... Now,, why does that give off a sense of deja vu?? 😁
Every time you mentioned the Elrod, I would hear the voice of Elrod the Albino from the Cerebus the Aardvark comic, in my head - he speaks in a looney tunes Foghorn Leghorn style. HI know pretty niche and pretty old, then again so am I) .
As soon as the helo scouting found a bunch of meager small units in the pathway, I knew this was a scenario maker's trap for the player. The bombers was actually easy. They were full emitting with a fairly precise location, the surface to air missiles could get a lock with fire control radars only and keep the air & surface search radars off to prevent classification. Found the threats, went around them and destroyed them when the convoy was safe.
In the situation of the scenario with WWIII between NATO & Friends against USSR and some friends (Vietnam at least, idk about China or NORK, haven't read the scenario more than whats shown in video) I doubt there would be any huge outcry: Compared to tens of thousands of dead civilians in central/western Europe two or three trawlers would not lead to any (more) international outrage. A Court Martial would be certain if the accidentally sunk targets had been allied military but as it was they were allied civilian and neutral civilian, so it is merely possible, and might even have to wait until after the war (if NATO wins or WWIII ends in a draw). The defending council has a strong case that the VN/USSR forces were trying to set the civilian ships up for disaster by intentionally mixing with them, maybe even rising to the level of "using human shields", which could lead to war crime charges against the enemy force (if NATO wins WWIII with little enough damage). After the war the US might pay damages to surviving relatives (Again, if NATO wins or the result is a draw) However reacting to hostilities to the south by going weapons free to the west shows a certain loss of situational awareness that might very well lead to the CO getting reassigned to driving a desk at CINCPAC or, if COs are in short supply, a fleet oiler. (I'd advice googling about Slapton Sands (Exercise Tiger) and the Battle of Barking Creek for slightly similiar incidents taking place, very importantly, during a world war)
Tough middle for me. Had to bail. Very stealthy ssn-n-2 and ss-n-9 missiles coming in. Radars did not pick some of them up inbound. Helos were up and everyone had their radars on. I'll run again later. Not as many fishing boats spawned as distractions for my first run as did for you. No war crimes, just dead sailors :(
It sounds like you weren't diligent enough on scouting and identification of tracks. It's a crap shoot but the helos gotta do the dangerous visual verification. Also, no need to keep air search and surface search radars on for firm contact info in line of sight and missile range. Those bombers were easy pickings to deal with and no retaliatory attacks.
Krep in mind with helicopters, the higher they go the lower the speed that first s70 was at 15000 feet before it glitched to 100000 feet and at that altitude its max speed it 18kts
As Jive Turkey says “war crime Wednesday “ 😂
"Tuna prices skyrocket as most of the fishing fleet fails to return." US Navy - No Comment.

Arguably, the war crime is on PAVN. Hiding amongst non-combatants is against the laws of war, so engaging the second trawler isn't really on you.
Air traveling over South China Sea in the middle of the night, you'll see a cluster of fishing boats. It's way more intense than the game.
iblank's scenarios are the best in the game right now for realism and playability!
In most cases, military ships won’t have their lights on at night unless doing air operations - so the little oopsie daisy coulda been forseen 😂

This series is fun and straightforward, well written scenarios. Great video.

For the 7:45 bit, since it’s an American airliner, you could say they contacted the fleet after they asked them to ID and spoke about the formation 😂👀
Sometimes it can be hard to tell the sheep from the goats.
What the hell was Norway doing fishing in the South China Sea?

Reminds me of Jane's Fleet Defense
If the SB-70 isn't a party of the scenario, i would consider it a bit cheaty though.
Its capacities aren't notably better or worse than the other helo. Only major difference is the dipping sonar. Oh, and it can seemingly do 100000 feet
@@Stealth17Gaming that is all fine by me, the hellfire rockets are not on the sea spirtes normally or are they now?
@Zirlikus No they're not on the Sea Sprites

15:05 lol can’t slowly sound out archipelago, doesn’t quite work out. I do that sometimes, happens to the best of us ☺️

In the end EMCON is just a game of chicken to me
34:00, hey, seems like the Vietnamese People’s Naval Militia trawlers to me- (ignore the Norwegian flags)

@@EricDKaufman great joke, i guess.
When playing yet another night mission, would it be possible to expand the plot so it covers the large black area?
You can cycle other units to get an ID.
I know but it feels like cheating sometimes.
