He was amazing! In the beginning I couldn't look at anyone else because he was that good!!
A lot of actors have trained on one of the commercial parabolic jets available. (i.e. vomit comets) Sometimes they've even filmed some high budget productions on them.
Those provide real Zero-G, but only for a few minutes, and are well beyond the budget of this skit. I'm sure, like many things, having experienced it makes it a lot easier to imitate.

How awkward this must look for the live audience lmao
I wanted them to pan out to see how they are doing the "floating" of the astronauts and the animals.
When you think about it, most of the laughter in these sketches have to be contrived. They're just not funny live when you can see the big twist before the camera shows it, or whatever it may be. This is a TV show, and I can't imagine being an audience member is all that fun.

@@kurtreber9813 yeah, they do get entertained, and seeing behind the curtain can be interesting. I wouldn't call it boring-and it might be worth it to try once if you get the chance-but don't expect to want to come back, and don't spend too much money on it.
@@NickFisherman They are not contrived, the show prides itself on maintaining authentic live audience reaction, to the point that they have cut many sketches worth thousands upon thousands of dollars each, which are almost all based on audience reaction during dress rehearsal as a way to measure if it will do well. It's also done with a different audience for the live show.
There is also plenty of surprising details in which the sets are done both for tv and audience, there might be something to block views from the live audience to block the joke, or it might even be done completely through monitors all over the audience areas. There are plenty of videos, documentaries, books on it.
this sketch is such an absolute banger. Tired of people saying SNL isn't good like every era had their ups and downs. This is a top quality sketch

Yeah I completely disagree I mean it was definitely quality I just didn’t find it funny I think will Ferrell being so insanely funny has sort of ruined the current times now that he’s gone And I mean I hate to be that guy But Leslie just isn’t funny She’s never been funny in any sketch Kate is talented The other guy in this sketch is talented But Kate is the only one in this era who can be funny in basically any situation

Yes Kate can do anything and she was awesome freezing fluting and space about to break like a Salt teen I couldn't stop laughing I was crying.
Fluting=floating and salt teen= saltine
I was there for the rehearsal, Kate was even better then with the floating. It took me a bit to believe that it wasn't just a makeshift dummy that they made of her. But the best part about rehearsal was at the end she really cracked a smile and was trying not to laugh.

My favorite part of it is you can see the person handling the floating things in the reflection of the window in the back.
The outer space skit was a riot I couldn't stop crying I was laughing so hard frozen monkeys the cat's face was sucked in hahaha haha and Kate mckinnon outside Floating around frozen O boy this was great thanks everybody to the whole cast tonight's episode was absolutely brilliant.
Cheap but effective. That's what makes it so funny! Just like Monty Python.

I was a NASA Flight Controller in the Mission Control Operations Room, and SNL did a great job on this! The blue flight suits, NASA patches, and zero-G - - Even faceless cat had a flight suit and NASA patches. I can't stop laughing. One of the best.

Yea except that it’s a common misconception that you freeze into ice when exposed to the vacuum of space. The vacuum of space is actually one of the best heat insulators so whatever body heat the animal had at the time of death will remain trapped internally unless something comes along to conduct the heat away.

I think this was the best skit of the night...all the actors were great with the minimal rooms and props to utilize. Leslie---what can I say, she was saying and thinking what we (the audience) were wanting to say...LOL! Too funny! Loved it!

I can't wait to show this to my daughter. She's eight, loves science and animals, and has a brilliantly dark sense of humour.
If she loves science and animals than she should give this sketch a thumbs down. It would take a while for the vacuum of space to freeze a monkey. There is no air for heat to be conducted into so the only way for the body to lose heat would be through radiation, which results in fairly slow heat loss. Also, the air pressure drop wouldn't cause a cat's body to noticeably change that much. Just like with humans, a cat would probably become unconscious after 15 seconds in a vacuum and die from ruptured brain vessels in another minute or two. The cold temperature of space would be of no concern compared to the vacuum, but even that kills more slowly and less dramatically than just about every screenwriter seems to think.
