    I think the original caricature works. The second one looks more like Dolly Parton to me. I think the key to Taylor’s face is that it’s kind of scrunched up and angular. In your second interpretation, it felt a bit rounded and it lost some of the original likeness.
    3:00 Maybe if the top of her head’s silhouette had been made a bit more triangular than circular it would’ve read cleaner. Like a cone.

    Oh, maaan... you make it look so easy!
    Btw, what do you mean by "strong fundamentals" in this case? Only head anatomy or also something else, like that neat anatomy tracing? Or also some rhytmic lines? If so, is there any chance on elaborating on this a bit more? Cause Im currently going through Loomis´ head study and there is a talk about rhytmic lines of head and Im kinda lost in that.
    THANKS!

      Yes, that's right Patrix. In part 1 of this course, I cover caricature fundamentals where I teach how to come up with the initial concept of the exaggeration and refine it over a few different steps. One of those steps is the Reilly Abstraction (rhythm lines), which is usually used for portrait and figure drawing. The lessons that teach those fundamental skills are referred back to a lot in these more advanced caricature exercises. Be sure to find and watch those early videos if you can. They are in the "Art of Caricature" playlist on the Proko channel.

      Wow, thank you for this answer. Gonna check it!
      Also, I have one additional question, but.. is there any, or do you know any good book on this rhythm lines (on Reilly´s Abstraction)? I really love tutorials on this channel, but I also like to use them in addition to anatomy books for even better understanding and wider info.
      Also, do you have some tips on how to learn to do much longer strokes? Cause I still struggle with "patting" (petting?) the line so it still looks like multiple short ones trying to make a long one.

    • @CourtJones
      @CourtJones 7 лет назад +1

      Unfortunately, I have not seen any good books on the Reilly Abstraction. I think one of our former fellow teachers from the Watts Atelier might be putting something together. That was the rumor anyway. They have kept alive the teaching of Reilly's methods probably more than any other current school. And learning to draw with longer strokes is something made easier by which materials you choose and how to use them. With a long tapered pencil and an overhand grip, you should draw from your shoulder on large pads of paper. Check out Stan's old video on how to hold and control your pencil. He also has videos on how to sharpen the pencil for that grip as well as a video on the art materials he uses. Go to this link and you should see some of those other videos I mentioned in the "Up Next" side panel: ruclips.net/video/pMC0Cx3Uk84/видео.html

      Patrix, I just remembered that there is a pdf ebook we put together on the Reilly Abstraction. It's just a few pages, but it does have a step by step on how to draw my version of Reilly's rhythms. It's one of the things premium students of the course get access to. You'll get it if you purchase either part 1 or both parts of this course on Proko.com

    Great caricature in itself, but the features are pushed so far that it no longer looks like her at all.

    • @CourtJones
      @CourtJones 7 лет назад +2

      Thanks! But if you watch the full video, I discuss the issues that come up with the third caricature of a caricature, and what you should know about exaggeration vs. likeness. The third caricature SHOULD represent your attempt to "go too far" in the exaggeration department. This exercise is meant to help you push your boundaries and find your exaggeration style.

    • @achehex
      @achehex 7 лет назад +17

      Well Court sais so himself, the 3rd sketch often misses the likeness, so it's not supposed to be a finalized piece, but rather an excercise for you to flex your muscles and see how far you can go before you break it.
      Also it looks pretty funny.
