Filter - Take My Picture, will Surprise you guys after hearing this song you won't think it's the same band!!!
Agreed 💯
I was thinking the same thing
Legit ... so shocking
I heart filter
Their best song is welcome to the fold
The lead singer is Richard Patrick. Fun fact is that he is the younger brother of Robert Patrick, the actor most famous for playing the T1000 in Terminator 2.
Saw them in 2015 with CombiChrist and American Headcharge as the openers! 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
I actually learned that the other day and was fascinated to hear it
He was also in the last couple of seasons of The X Files.
That's so funny everytime I tried to remember his name I'd get his name right but thought of Robert. Had no idea they were brothers but it makes sense now.
And also a former member of Nine Inch Nails
Amber is so perceptive at breaking down music. She really gets it.
And movies...
...We love you too Rob!! : )
Amber gets evry thing she is so quick
Filter had a collaboration with The Crystal Method with a song called "(Can’t You) Trip Like I Do" for the the Spawn movie soundtrack
Such a great song! I fucking love the Spawn Soundtrack!!!
Fantastic song!
That is a fantastic track. The soundtrack was amazing...........the movie notsomuch 😅
I’ve told them to do some techno!! Like Underworld, Chemical Brothers, Crystal Method, Fatboy Slim, Basement Jaxx, Massive Attack, stuff like that
@@reaganwhite7807The movie was kickass!! What are you talking about??
If you're liking this vibe you'll like "Stabbing Westward", try the song Save Yourself. Also the band "Helmet" goes hard af, try the songs Unsung, Milquetoast, Wilma's Rainbow.
Yes, Helmet please !
Both of them!
I came to say stabbing westward - save yourself as well
Waking up beside you
Man I totally forgot about Stabbing Westward. I remember that song was in an anime back in the day. I wanna say Tekken or Street Fighter.
I saw Bud Dwyer, who this song is about, commit suicide on live TV when I came home school in January 1987 when I was 16 years old. It started snowing that day, and we got sent home from school early. I happened to have 7th period lunch that year, and I got out of school super early, so I was walking through the front door as he pulled the gun from the envelope he had in his hand, telling people to leave. Channel 6 in Philadelphia filmed the entire thing, and I will never forget it as long as I live. It was insane. You guys take care 🙂
I'm pretty sure it's still on RUclips.
@@BROU-bb2uc it probably is. I personally never looked for it; it was a terrible sight to witness and once is enough for me. You take care 🙂
I can't remember where I saw the whole video, but that image sticks in my head to this day
Me 2. Lived in Philly, I was 19 & like WTF?
So sorry that you went through that. I’m not surprised it has stuck with you. ❤️
**New artist alert: P.O.D. 'Youth of the Nation ' . I 1000% guarantee you'll both wonder what took you so long to discover this gem of a band.
100% agree!
The genre for this music is actually "industrial" and not grunge. It does have hard, aggressive sounds, but they have more of an atmosphere to them (additional sounds that can tones that are eerie, provocative, unusual.) Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson are probably the most recognizable of them but Filter and Stabbing Westward are my favorites. Stabbing Westward's "Save Yourself", "What Do I Have To Do?", and "Shame" would be awesome for reactions. For Filter songs, "Take A Picture" (which actually has a calm/peaceful vibe in the verses), "Welcome To The Fold", "Trip Like I Do", and "Under" are great ones to try.
They definitely need to listen to some Stabbing Westward, and more industrial in general. "Save Yourself" is probably my favorite, closely followed by "The Thing I Hate" and "Slipping Away".
Not even close to Industrial. It’s Metal.
Here’s why I love reaction channels. I completely thought about Stabbing Westward “Save Yourself”
I will drop a 100x for that suggestion!
As a Tool fan, want some anger? Try Tools “AEnema (with lyrics)” and “Hooker with a Pe*n*s (with lyrics).
BUT - please do Stabbing Westward. It will NOT disappoint.
There’s nothing metal about this song.
Ministry
Bud Dwyer shot himself on live TV, suicide.
And no one mentioned here yet that he was right, he was wrongly accused and thats why I say nice shot.
@@arifeannor9573 Truth!!!!!! Still can't believe that was live on TV...So sad... I'll never forget that.
Oh yeah, I forgot it was about that!!! Thanks for the reminder!
@@arifeannor9573 he was guilty af!
@@steelyspielbergo He was cleared. The guy admitted to lying.
Look up the back story to this song. It's about Pennsylvania state treasurer Bud Dwyer killing himself on stage at a press conference
And it was broadcast live on local tv. You can actually still see the videos of the press conference.
I knew the song but never knew that fact until I watched another channel react to this some months back.
I was about to post the same thing. I think he killed himself because he was under investigation and knew he wouldn't get away from what he had done.
Crazy thing my brother in law watched it live when he was a kid . It messed him up for like a month
crimes against children.. nothing of value was lost, the sentment of this song.
The lead singer is Richard Patrick. He is the brother of actor Robert Patrick (scary T1000 cop from T2). He has also been a touring guitarist for Nine Inch Nails. Super talented and a lot of great songs from Filter.
Robert Patrick was John Doggett on the X Files
@@SquirminHermanthe1eyedGerman He's also the really bad guy in season two of Reacher.
@@shawnstephens1251 right on
You hear a heavy influence of NIN in this song.
Obviously another great song by Filter is "Take A Picture." It's really a special..... beautiful song.
Take a Picture is great song.. actual bought this CD
Title Of Record. Great album.
some other great songs in a similar style are "Tomorrow" by Silverchair and the band "Puddle of Mudd" has "Blurry" and "Control" also "Psycho" and "she hates me" were popular also. the band Chevelle - "The Red" is another one
Chevelle has a good amount of songs! Comfortable Liar, Sma, Take Out the Gunman, Wonder What’s Next, Send the Pain Below, Breach Birth, Vitamin R
This song is about R. Budd Dwyer. He was a the state treasurer for Pennsylvania. He committed suicide on live television. He did it to protect his family, because it is believed he was an innocent man and was being thrown under the bus. His suicide prevented a lot of bad things from happening to his wife and kids. Here is part of what he said right before committing suicide.
"I thank the good Lord for giving me 47 years of exciting challenges, stimulating experiences, many happy occasions and most of all the finest wife and children any man could ever desire.
Now my life has changed for no apparent reason. People who call and write are exasperated and feel helpless. They know I am innocent and want to help, but in this nation, the worlds [sic] greatest democracy, there is nothing they can do to prevent me from being punished for a crime they know I did not commit. Some who have called have said that I am a modern day Job."
Wow thanks for that 😢sounds like he sacrificed
Wasn’t this about Kurt Cobain? Why would he say he wishes he could have met some no name politician?
And wasn't he later found to have been wrongfully accused? The whole thing was horrific and tragic.
@@bigdaddymosh1964 stop reposting the same idiot take.
@@bigdaddymosh1964 You can't even spell Kurt Cobain, and you think you're right about this song's meaning?
By the way, it makes my heart smile to see you two rockin' it out! You go!!!
I was about 10 when this song came out and for a long time I thought he was saying Hey Man, Nice Shirt. I'm still teased about this 27 yrs later😂
Amber totally vibed to this one!😊
That bass is so sick throughout the whole song, especially during the chorus.
A fun fact id heard about this song is that when the lead singer was the guitarist for Nine Inch Nails he presented this song to Trent Reznor and he didnt want nothing to do with it, hence why it became Filters big hit
Trent liked the song, but wanted to buy it and claim writing credit. You make it seem like he hated it or something.
right...part of that story is that Patrick was in NIN and wanted more money for his participation in the band and Reznor said "go get a job delivering pizzas" and thus propelled him to start Filter :)
Impossible for me not to see Jim Carey in cable guy basketball scene when I hear this though I love the song!
There were many bands during this period that mined the same kind of alternative/lite-Industrial sound. Stabbing Westward, Machines of Loving Grace, God Lives Underwater, Gravity Kills, and a bunch more. The 90's was a killer time for different sounds to break through.
HEAVY in many ways.😮
Haunting is an understatement. 🤘😎🤘
Amber is really jamming on this one!
I have broken soooo many strings playing this song.
I forgot about this song and band....very heavy in the 90's!!!!
Finally! Filter is an awesome band.
This is from their 1st album. Their 2nd and 3rd albums are masterpieces from beginning to end.
Other great songs by Filter...The best Things, Take A Picture and my personal favorite, Welcome To The Fold.
This isn't grunge, it's industrial metal.
Yeah I mean, to be fair, it's kind of a lighter version though of industrial metal though. It's not like Ministry, Nine Inch Nails, or Marilyn Manson. But I mean it works. :)
@skerr808 not many bands are like Ministry. I remember hearing Stigmata by Ministry when I was young, and it freaked me out. 😂
🫵🏼🎯🎯🎯
It's perfection
Ministry, great band, been following them since their synth New Wave days. Incredible transformation of the band. 👊🏼✌️
This was the first concert I've ever went to. I was in 9th grade and they played on New Years Eve. They waited just right before midnight to come out and counted down. WAS AWESOME!
Similar genre big hits from same era:
- Stabbing Westward “Save Yourself”
- Gravity Kills “Guilty”
Gravity Kills other song "Goodbye" is also great.
"What do I have to do" Stabbing westward...good too
Fun fact gravity kills did a song with Moby for spawn soundtrack that also has filter and the crystal method. Though Moby disliked the song he did with gravity kills and it went unreleased. The song was called suffocating. Pretty good song and it is on RUclips somewhere.
Gravity Kills Blame is amazing too!
@@AlyssaJaydeR I like the remix of gravity kills blame on escape from l.a. soundtrack
Take a Picture from Filter is definitely worth listening to (oh, the irony.)
Straight out of Cleveland, baby!
These guys were in Nine Inch Nails and Trent Reznor (also from Northeast Ohio) produced this album for them, in a little studio in Rocky River, Ohio.🎸
Totally , Badasses 😮😊😅🎉😂❤ USN 86-92
Woman, that was such an insightful and personal interpretation. You made my day!
The first time I saw Nine Inch Nails, on the very first Lollapalooza tour, Rich Patrick was still the guitarist. He definitely picked up some moves and influence from Trent Reznor but he was also able to create his own unique sound in the process. That first Lollapalooza was a weird one for the Nails. They were just getting a buzz on MTV from "Head Like A Hole", but they were still small enough to get slotted in the mid-afternoon slot so the whole band was mostly obscured by their smoke machines and their light show had no effect in the blazing North Carolina Summer sun. That tour included Henry Rollins, The Butthole Surfers, Ice-T and Body Count, Living Colour, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and closing act Jane's Addiction (whose lead singer Perry farrell created Lollapalooza). What a wild lineup back when no one even thought of putting hip hop, industrial, and hard rock bands on the same bill.
Wow, I haven't heard that in so long! It came out when I was in my late 20's and I loved it. I think I saw it on MTV originally. But later I bought the CD and would crank it up now and then.
This is one of those songs that you keep at a normal volume while driving until that first chorus part, then it's immediately cranked to 100.
So glad you’re reacting to this kind of music more!! Thank you!!
Hey y'all! I love your channel and my new hubby is digging on it too! He commented to me that he's so happy to see you both doing this and reaching the younger generations...we're in our 50's and 60's. We love rock! We love music. Thank you SO much for what you do -- it's awesome! There's so much out there to explore - you can keep going and going! Please please do!
The singer is Richard Patrick, the brother of Robert Patrick, actor who was in Terminator 2 and many other mo ies.
He was also in NIN
It was today that I just learned that. Fan of their since hearing them on the Crow and Spawn soundtracks.
Filter is essentially 1 guy (like Nine Inch Nails) - Richard Patrick, who was actually the guitarist of Nine Inch Nails until around 1993 (?) when he quit after Patrick alleged that NIN's Trent Reznor refused to pay him and suggested he "deliver pizzas for extra money"... Richard Patrick wrote and recorded the debut Filter album 'Short bus' w/ Brian Liesgang (co-producer) and it became a platinum hit in 1995 in the industrial rock era.
Other tracks from the album - 'Under' ... and 'Dose'.
Filter parted ways w/ Brian Liesgang and released their 2nd album 'Title of Record' in 1999... another platinum hit w/ the songs - 'Welcome to the fold' ... 'The best things' ... 'Take a picture'... 🔥🔥🤘🤘
3rd album 'The Amalgamut' was released in 2002 but was not as successful in the post-90's era... despite the strong single "Where do we go from here"... 🔥🔥
Despite Filter declining in commercial popularity, Richard Patrick has continued recording Filter albums - 'Anthems for the damned' in 2008... 'The trouble with angels' (2010) ... 'The sun comes out tonight' (2013)... 'Crazy eyes' (2016) ... and 'The Algorithm' (2023)
Richard Patrick says he also works scoring films and movies and that is his main income source... He still tours w/ Filter on a regular basis.
"Three One One" 😂 Three Eleven is their actual name. I've always loved filter. Thanks for reacting!
Gave me a chuckle, too. After a confused second of, "Who?"
This album, "Short Bus" was an unexpected success. I remember record stores completely selling out of stock and having to wait for a while for more cds to be made. Also, the band mentioned as 3-1-1 at the beginning of the video is pronounced three eleven😉 Thanks for reacting to Filter. Awesome song.
Song isn't grunge. It's Nu Metal. Richard Patrick is the lead singer.
They've got a lot of great songs, and it was great in 2018 after a 21-year hiatus for the band to get back together and turn out new music. They released a couple of songs through RUclips in 2023. If you want bands similar to Filter, check out Sevendust, Dark New Day, Life of Agony, Big Wreck, Stereomud, Finger Eleven, and Dropbox!
Ok, you're ready for the Sisters of Mercy. "More", "This Corrosion" or "Lucretia My Reflection" all good.
You know, when I first started watching this channel, I never thought you guys would've been rocking out to songs like this. Bands like Filter, Nine Inch Nails, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, & Nirvana were my go to music in high school & beyond. It's been a trip seeing you two go from from newbies to headbangers.
This song is for Amber, you said you are a country girl at heart. If you don't pick this song, listen to it. The song is called " Wear the sun in your heart/Maybe". The artist is Thom Pace, the song is the theme song to a tv show in the 1970's called "The life and times of Grizzly Adams". I read the comments, and people say it still brings tears to their eyes. The show is about a man in the 1800s, escapes to the wilderness after being accused of murder.
Loved Grizzly Adams 😊
Welcome to the fold
Take a picture
Can't you trip like I do......3 more by Filter
Awesome band. Choose anything off the 'Title Of Record' album....my pick, 'Welcome To The Fold' or 'Captain Bligh'.
Another awesome group and songs. You cant help moving to the music and sing along. Great song
If you're looking for 90s rock chaos with thumping bass lines and an iconic frontwoman lead singer, check out Curve. You would love every track on their DOPPELGANGER and CUCKOO albums 🎉
You're going to love the bass line, great song
I was so excited to see you all reacted to this, I haven't heard this song in forever, but as far as the intro, you say it like "three eleven" not three, one, one, so thankful I was her for you (I'm teasing you). I love you both, but Amber was going hard and I love you for it. your reactions, your rhythm and dancing to the music is authentic and infectious.
Hi, jet lag John here again since returning from the states. New artist in Slade crying out to be played, mama we’er all crazy now which was a No1 hit in the 70’s or and 80’s hit Run Run Away which was their biggest hit in the states
Haven’t heard this in a while, sure took me right back to the 90s. Sounded great with headphones. I loved their song “Take a picture”
I remember around St. Louis, this was used as kind of a theme song for the McGuire/Sosa home run race back in 98. One of the radio stations spliced in game audio to make it unique for McGuire.
The singer of Filter , Richard Patrick told the crowd at the 2012 show in Vegas with GNR that this song …”Paid to put his kids through college “😁😂
Hey, you two! Great reaction. First and foremost, the genre this song usually falls under is Industrial or Post-Industrial. The lead singer, Richard Patrick, used to play lead guitar in Nine Inch Nails before branching out on his own and forming Filter. Now, the original video for this particular song was taboo on MTV when it first came out. The song was written about the public suicide of Pennsylvania state treasurer R. Budd Dwyer on January 22, 1987, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Dwyer had been convicted of bribery charges in December 1986, and was expected to receive a lengthy sentence from U.S. District Court Judge Malcolm Muir. Professing his innocence and decrying the legal system, Dwyer shot and killed himself with a .357 Magnum revolver during a live televised press conference. Something you can't shake out of your head once you've seen it. Quite heartbreaking actually. The guitar line in the chorus was previously used in the Stabbing Westward song "Ungod" in 1994. Stuart Zechman, who was also playing guitar for Stabbing Westward at the time, took the riff and showed it to Stabbing Westward, who ended up using it also. Quite the popular song back in the 90s, it's been featured in several films. And if this is your first time listening to Filter, you need to checkout "Take a Picture" from their second album. A complete departure from what you've just heard. At the end of the 90s, Filter went off to embrace the Alternative scene for a little bit.
Haunting.....Possum Kindom The Toadies. Will leave the meaning a surprise.
Saw these guys in the 90s at a small venue. Blew me away. Good choice. Good Job as always. Be well. Band - Helmet. Song - Unsung
I hadn’t heard of this band before I saw them perform as the opening band for GNR at the Hard Rock in Las Vegas in 2012 …. Filter put on a great high energy show that got the crowd pumped up and ready for Guns N Roses to finish out the awesome night 😎🎸👍🏻
Great reaction and commentary on this legendary song, and, as has been already suggested, you should also do the song, "Take A Picture", also by Filter, which shows a different, but equally impressive, side to them, including amazingly soulful and touching vocals. Btw, I recommend doing the longer version of that song, the one that's just over 6 minutes instead of the shorter one.
One of my favorite songs of all times top 40 songs of all times watching them live even better great call on song
First of all, new subscriber. Love your energy! Lot of fun to watch. I saw these guys live at Endfest 3 back in the day. They were awesome. Got 2 quick suggestions: 5FDP, Wrong side of heaven. Song is good, but it is next to impossible to watch the video without shedding a couple of tears. And, Avenged Sevenfold, the beast and the harlot. They get a lot of their lyrics from the Bible and it's an interesting twist. Thanks for the entertainment and I'll keep watching.
"Time is frozen" ...... Dope ass analogy and description !🤙🤘🔥
Have had this song on my playlists for years...nice to see a reaction to it.
Love love love this song!!!
I'm seeing Filter in August with Rob Zombie and Alice Cooper! I bought TITLE OF RECORD when I was 13 yrs old and its definitely one of my favorite albums of my youth.
Fun fact: the lead singer Richard Patrick is brother to actor Robert Patrick (Terminator 2, Peacemaker, The Faculty) I'll be 40 just a week after I see them on August 31st. 😁🤘
Some other 90s to check out Queens of the stone age - no one knows, my god is the sun, the way you used to do, the evil has landed, little sister. Maybe Jon spencer blues explosion - afro, bell bottoms, I dig you, flavor pt 1 & 2, 2 kindsa love, talk about the blues, hot gossip w/chuck d, do the get down. One of my favorites from Filter!! YES!!
This was used in a few tv shows. For me, the biggest being The X Files. Filter’s song “One” was used in the 1998 X Files movie.
This is a HEAVY song great choice.
I've always liked this song.
I'm from Texas and I remember seeing the edited footage on the news. Very glad I did not witness it live.
YES! YES! YES! I am once again happy that you guys are listening to a favorite band of mine! Love you guys and keep em coming. If you love heavy stuff, DEFINITELY check out Korn and Limp Bizkit!!!
calm before the storm.... as it slowly built up I imagine myself putting my seatbelt on... ."ooooh shoot" lock in folk, this going to go!!
I saw Filter in Rochester, NY back in the day. Good show.
When you get around to it "take my picture" is 100 % opposite-Amber will totally dig it !
Richard Patrick is the lead singer and founder of Filter. "Hey Man, Nice Shot’ was written by Patrick in 1989 two years following the public suicide of the late and former state treasurer of Pennsylvania. He was accused of bribery and convicted. Given he held a governmental position and this pending termination was due to said charges, he also would have forfeited all his governmental benefits, including life insurance and a pension. Therefore he committed suicide to secure death while still in office, just before he was officially terminated as a preemptive act to preserve his governmental benefits for his wife and children. We watched this suicide occur on live TV on January 22, 1987. I was 20 years old and a sophomore in college at the time. I would STRONGLY discourage anyone from watching the video as I have seen it once on RUclips since and it is just as horrifying. So warning it is never something anyone can ever unsee. A very sad story.
The guy who started this band Richard Patrick, came from the band Nine Inch Nails. Both him, and another ex-member, Marilyn Manson, can be seen in their video for "Gave Up". Highly recommended song/video.
The singer Richard Michael Patrick also formed another band called Army of Anyone with the DeLeo brothers from Stone Temple Pilots and they put out one self-titled album. I think you'd like it. When I first listened to the "Army of Anyone" album I thought it sounded like Chris Cornell singing STP songs.
It was about R. Bud Dwyer. He was our local Politician that shot himself on TV. He is buried in Blooming Valley PA. His headstone can be seen from Rt. 198.
I love you guys!!! I love watching you vibe out to the stuff I vibe to!!!
Another underrated band worth going down a rabbit hole for. You should check out It’s Gonna Kill Me Very High Energy and one of my all time favorites.
Big fan of you guys! I’m a fellow Oklahoman myself so it’s nice to see you guys succeeding. Filter-Take a picture is one of my favorite songs to date. Would love to see a reaction because it’s a totally different style of music. Keep up the good work!
*You guys have to check out the song/video from the 90s called HOBO HUMPIN SLOBO BABE by the group Whale. I think this was their only American hit, but they did well in Europe. It's rockin', funny and just the right amount of weird.*
Filter was formed after Trent Reznor of NIN told his backing band they should make their own album... and they did!
I love this song, always have. This was popular way back when I was a DJ on the radio. Good memories there. I suggested this ages ago, but was a few years ago now, got missed, no biggie.
You moving into the 90s, early 00s, you really need to check out SEVENDUST. One of my all time favorite bands. Start with Live Again and you'll be hooked, begging for more, I promise you!
I saw Filter at a free poolside concert in Las Vegas 10+ years ago. I knew this and Take A Picture. The latter of which I know from the DVD of my first skydive. Great songs and great memories.
If you want heavy need to checkout Korn. Start with Freak on a Leash or Blind
Daddy
@@josemadera3138 no please not Daddy. You don't want to scare them away
Filter kind of ended up being sort of an also-ran of the post-grunge/industrial scene of the 90s, but one of the other tracks of theirs I remain fond of is their song (Can You) Trip Like I Do from the Spawn OST, a collab with electronic duo The Crystal Method.
The lead singer is the younger brother of Robert Patrick. The actor who played the liquid terminator from T2.
The singer watched and rewatched a video for hours of a politician shooting himself in the head before writing this song.
In the movie "Hired Gun," Richard Patrick talks about playing in Nine Inch Nails and basically being told by Trent Reznor that if you want to make serious money in the music business, come up with your own shit. That's what mentoring is all about - tough conversations and honesty. Filter has a really great catalog of music. Keep exploring. By the way - this is not grunge; it's industrial metal.
Richard Patrick
was the touring guitarist in Nine Inch Nails
[after the debut album & tour, Trent Reznor didn't, really, keep a "core line-up" band. He used whoever fit & whoever he was interested in working with.
Chris Vrenna [drummer] & Richard Patrick, later; were consistent players with N.I.N., though...].
After Patrick decided to depart the Nine Inch Nails touring band, he wanted to set-up a. project of his own
...He connected with another guitarist & programmer (meaning: drum machine, synth. programmer!) Brian Liesengang
and Filter were born out of that.
Interestingly (but not connected to the band in any way), guitarist/vocalist Richard Patrick
is, also, the brother of actor: Robert Patrick
[most famously known as "the T-1000" in Terminator 2: Judgement Day].
As many in comments mentioned, the song is about the public suicide by Pennsylvania state treasurer R Budd Dwyer. The song was written in 1991, but first appeared as a single in 1994...and there was widespread perception that the song was about the suicide of Kurt Cobain which happened in 1994. Just one of those weird coincidences. Kind of like when the band Lynyrd Skynyrd's fifth album Street Survivors, who's original cover featured the band members standing in the street with buildings engulfed in flames all around them...the album dropped Oct 17, 1977...the band died in a plane crash Oct 20...just three days after its release.
"Cancer" by Filter was the first song I heard by them and I loved it. It's been 3 years since you've done Breaking Benjamin, so it's time for "Diary of Jane" in the near future.
