    The missiles are (currently) not the very best and most modern, however these fast little "missile trucks" can lay down a significant field of fire, well enough to keep any opponent occupied in missile defence. We've covered the datalink "shortage" before. If the PLAN decide to fit datalinks, that upgrade can be done in less than ONE day, to the ENTIRE fleet, because of China's pretty massive shipbuilding industry. Never forget that China is very much THE World Leader in integrated communications technologies, and is so far the only Country with a working 6G experimental network.

      And also they are too expensive to replace, particularly in case of US, it cannot build a vessel cheaply in a short period of time. So, it cannot deploy them in a competitive combat such as against China, Russia or even Iran and North Korea.

In a sea battle..It's how many weapons you can bring to the battlefield. If china can bring 1000 of these to the battlefield..The US navy will be toast. Satellites can spot the type 22 but these missile boats can be easily spotted by AEW planes like the E-2D Hawkeye flying from a US carrier battle group hundreds of km away. The stealth features of the Type 22 have little effect on the radar of the E-2D when the AEW plane is looking down from a high altitude. If these type 22 boats are used against a US carrier battle group, their chance of survival is not high. Maybe they can be useful against lone frigate or destroyer operating away from a carrier battle group.

      these are coastal defense - not for the open ocean. US carriers would not get that close to China to encounter these - except maybe in the South China Sea. one basic question is E2 is not designed for sea search, it is not equiped with speciallized sea search radar, the P-8 and old school P-3 will work much better in the field, E2D model do have multifunction radar however the sea search model range is no more than F/A-1, and F/A-18 do have enough ability search sea target
      the over all radar cross section of type 22 is less than a 10 meter coastal fishing boat, the possible targeting range do not change because the radar are high in the sky
      and the best satellite now under testing by both America and China, i mean the lock-eye series and Jilin series, can track fighter jet sized target with manual operation, but everyone know that is some kind of show of technology, now the best satellite can track frigate sized ship at war time automatically
      type 22 is not a secret weapon, it is simply a well designed stealth fast missile boat, nowadays most new war ships are designed to be stealth, there are stealth destroyer, stealth frigate, stealth corvette, maybe one day there will be stealth carrier, you can targeting type 22 with the old way you targeting anyother ships, and these missile boat is designed for potential American invasion of Chinese coast line, not for carrier group, i don't think American admirals are smart enough to send large war ships into coastal area at war time, and type 22 make this happen
      type 22 successfully worked as design, American recorded top speed of type 22 at real time is around 50 knots, type 22 liberate large Chinese war ships into further ocean areas, that is enough, the small boat has proven to be powerful against amphibious land ships, thats all

    • @DelAoc
      @DelAoc 29 дней назад

      @@LuobingSong Even the AN/APS-145 UHF doppler radar installed on the older E-2C Hawkeye could detect and track surface targets within about 300 nautical miles, allowing the AEW aircraft to monitor maritime traffic and patrol in all weather conditions. The AN/APY-9 radar for the newer E-2D Hawkeye is said to have improved on the AN/APS-145 with additional capabilities against stealth targets. Anti-submarine warfare however is not a function of the Hawkeye. The P-8 Poseidon is not a carrier borne aircraft. It operates from land bases in anti-submarine and anti-surface roles. There is really no overlap between the P-8 and the E-2 in anti-submarine warfare.

    • @LuobingSong
      @LuobingSong 29 дней назад

      @@DelAoc the question is at what range can E2 track a 10m fishing boat, the real RCS of type 22 is trusted to be smaller than that
      you can say E2 can track a ship at 300 nm, but what kind of ship, i could say Chinese KJ500 with advanced AESA radar much better than those on E2C variant can track a ship at 600nm, but what if it turns out to be a fleet carrier
      till now American navy has the largest non-stealth fleet of the whole world, the real ability of E2 will not better much bigger KJ500, and it is till a multifunction search radar priority air search, American do have much better large radar installed on much larger plane
      that changes nothing, as i said, the type 22 is not a secret weapon, it is simply a will designed stealth missile boat, it could be terminated by another regular weapon, it fears everything which other small boats fear at the same time, the bad weather, poor air defense, targeted by enermy large ship, and there are many things like that
      but why when it comes to American weapon it became some kind of mysterious secret weapon? we all know E2C can track target, we all know E2 have multifunction radar, but did that makes any difference?
      the reason why type 22 like small missile boat will never be a carrier killer is because to keep type 22 survive you will need land based targeting system, you will need land based fighter group against enermy fighters and strikers, you will need the facilities to confuse enermy targeting system, and the the final strike, the stealth feature is not for making type 22 voyage thousand miles cross the ocean to strike enermy carrier group, it is for keep these ship survive till the final strike
      with type 22 and land based facilities, the coastal area can be free from enermy strike, and continuously support larger ship fighting in the ocean, that is the real goal of all coastal defense system since the navy was invented

    Great training. Just like in a real conflict during war, the enemy will also not make it easy for you to hit and kill them. Just like in war, you should automatically assume that if you're in range to see and shoot someone, they can also see and shoot you. and at best, you will only get one shot off before they know you're there and they return fire and/or run away and make themselves impossible to hit. So obviously every second counts and can mean the difference between life and death. Not just for you but for the survival of your fellow Chinese brothers or the country itself. Just imagine that was an arleigh burke you're fighting and there's like 3 more type 22 fighting alongside your one. But ooosy, instead of talking bm out, he has taken a Type 22 out. your missed shots just caused the deaths of many fellow brothers in arms.
    Also. I think it's just to stimulate tension and pressure, and even if he missed the second attempt, they wouldn't have fired him and ended a true young patriots career due to these kinds of circumstances.

    Also what does the PLAN think of captains doing their own thing for their ships. Like as if a captian on a missile boat deceided to take their own drone or a small military drone and use it to help with scouting. Similar to how tankers add their own modifications. Would that be allowed, especially during wartime, or is that not acceptable?

    Multi-hull ship designs are interesting for their stability in rough sea, despite their shallow draft, making excellent speed due to almost aerofoil planing.
    Both the US Navy and the Soviets have/had multi-hull ships (the failing 2008 Independence-class Littoral Combat Ship or the 2010 Spearhead-class expeditionary fast transport for Military Sealift Command - or the 1913 Submarine Rescue Ship 'Kommuna') or even hydrofoils in their fleets (up to 50 knots 1973 Pegasus-class coastal patrol or the up to 40 knots 1977 Matka-class Hydrofoil Missile Boat - or the gas-turbine driven, up to 60 knots 1983 Muravey-class coastal patrol).
    It'd be interesting to see, how well the Chinese did with aluminum construction which literally is about to sink the Littoral Combat Class hulls of the US Navy due to structural cracks in salty Blue Waters.

    Type 22 is being underutilized. With a mothership that can lower itself into the water these boats can pull up perpendicular to the mothership into each stall. And once every boat is on the transport ship raise itself up. It's possible because there are big enough cargo large type of ships out there...recover/transport. This way 22 can hunt like a wolf pack in the deep blue and return to the mothership when it's done with its mission or patrol. Using a frigate or a frigate and a destroyer with it for protection. The Protection will shadow the wolf pack when it's hunting and return to the mothership to help with the protection. If you do this, then this is like using a cavalry hidden in the flanks waiting for the attack command.

    its highly unlikely that after 20 years the Type 022 doesn't have some kind of datalink with other fleet assets to fire its missiles from beyond the range of its own sensors. Assuming it wasn't designed to do that from the start.
    I mean, the ship itself wouldn't be able to detect any surface vessel beyond 25km because of the horizon regardless. so why would it be equipped with YJ83s with ranges 3 times that?

    • @EurasiaNaval

    this year is the 22nd year of type 22 fast missile boat
    as i told in another video, those nation who are really in need of type 22 except China, they mostly do not have enough money for type 22, also those tech on type 22 are also far from available for them, and for those who can afford and have enough tech to develop a type 22, they mostly do not need them
    type 22 is not cheap at all, the price of type 22 equals those original none anti submarine enhanced type 056 corvette, very expensive, and many tech on type 22, the 22 year old boat, are still highly classifyed
    recent years, there are many others tried to develop a stealth coastal defense ship, the most out standing one is Swedish visby, however it is a corvette, it is not a purified missile boat, but according to my friend work in this field, domestic researchers highly ranked visby, they think visby are close tech level to type 022
    and also Taiwan is still not a country's 沱江 class, according to my friend, domestic researchers also highly ranking this ship, they think that thing got 70/100, if type 22 is 100/100, however 沱江 class may lacks real ability to fight in war time, Taiwan is still not a country, may can not support missile guidance during war time, they have no reconnaissance to do so
    people always talk about Chinese current main coastal-near China sea defense strategy, the A2/AD
    they always talk about the fancy weapon on surface, however things are much more complex than that, example here, in 2016 south China sea conflict, China ahead of America navy to find enermy carrier group by more than 4 hours, the general staff HQ have more preparation at peace time, now Chinese global spy satellite system tracks every American carrier 24x7, American can do this many years ago and they successfuly tracked Soviet strike group in cold war, however they do not preparer for a potential conflict

    • @LuobingSong
      @LuobingSong Месяц назад

      in 2002 things are much harder than now, but type 22 based on 1990s PLA naval ability, find the sweet point
      type 22 in 1990s will be supported by submarine recon, fleet guarding team, and airforces tracking, American navy may break up the control chain so there are more back up plan
      there are always a system not a single weapon for China, there are always a whole system, that is the biggest difference from China and other navy, and most of other navy do not and can not and shall not and will not build such a system, thats what make type 22 so different from other stealth coastal different stealth ship of other countries

    the type22 missile boat with a design that dates back more than 20 years, so it cannot be considered a modern missile boat, although the combination it offers (stealth design, number of missiles it carries, high speed with wave-piercing catamaran design which enhancing the sailing in high seas) is still considered very effective, and lethal...
    I think PLANF needs to diversify the types of missiles launched by those fast missile boats, and not be limited to launching one type of missile, the YJ-83 high subsonic ASM...
    the type 22 missile boat is an addition to the capabilities of the PLANF especially in coastal defense and shallow waters between the Chinese mainland, taiwanese islands and to the artificial chain of islands constructed by China, beside in asymmetrical warfare at (least in conducting fast raids with a salvos of missiles in addition to conducting harassment roles), with an advanced stealth design and reasonable combat capabilities, especially compared to its predecessor, the Soviet OSA-1 missile boat that was able to launch the P-15 termit, and its Chinese clone, the Silkworm YJ-2, although the total weight of the useful payloads delivered by single fast missile boat goes to the older P15/YJ-2
    Some of the drawbacks and shortcomings are that it is lacking the VLS and with it the ability to launch the ASM vertically, Perhaps these issues can be justified by the need to simplify the manufacturing process of the missile boat and continue developing and production process of the YJ-83 ASM family, although the vertical launching systems or cells (VLS) could help the PLANF to diversity the missions of those fast, agile and highly manoeuvres missiles boats, not only in anti ships missions, but also in air defense roles either to help defending high value naval and shore targets from enemy aviations activities or in help in intercepting the cruise and ballistic missiles...
    the lack of extra missiles store other shortcomings is the lacking of extra missiles stored on-board limiting those combat effectiveness because to achieve the needed saturation to overwhelming the enemy vessels air defense systems, especially when firing sea skimming, high subsonic ASMs they have to fire all their loaded ammunition to defeat the enemy countermeasures...
    regarding equipping the type 22 fast missile boat with a drones, I think actually those capabilities could be tailored in some future stages and one or two of the launching pods can converted to loading and storing Long range reconnaissance and surveillance drones with wings folded or retracted on the fuselage and it could be fired similarly to firing the YJ-83,
    or they could add a launching pod inside the hull, where it could fire single or swarms of unmanned aerial vehicles, of course the same roles apply on enhancing the underwater capabilities delivering underwater unmanned vehicles...

    The gunboat was the result of collaboration with Australia. Hence, the sleek design ahead of its time. Interestingly, Australia decided to ditch it and China later cold storaged the gunboats until recently after Marcos Jr increased his pace in stirring up South China Sea conflicts. The gunboats then undergo a series of upgrades and appear to be well suited for this type of small scale conflicts.
