Sounds like you guys are not used to traveling lol. I just went to the Faroe islands and had none of the issues you describe.
Only two rental car counters? Not true, they have a lot, maybe things changed since you visited.
Also, don't buy the extra insurance, you already have basic insurance (by danish law), included in the car price. They try to push extended insurance to you but don't bother unless you're a horrible driver.
Come prepared clothing-wise, and don't cancel your hikes due to bad weather (except for the more challenging hikes that might become dangerous when wet).
In my opinion, two weeks is way over-kill, the island is small and you can see all the attractions, hikes in 5 days without stressing.

Hi Jacob! I'm going there soon, could you tell me where did you rent a car? Since it's pretty expensive I thought perhaps there are special deals. Also, is it possible to rent a tent? Thanks a lot🙏

Very informative, even for a faroese. Thank you for making this.
I'd like to add that bad weather doesn't just affect hikes. I've taken a couple of hitchhikers at Sørvágur which couldn't get on the ferry to the island Mykines because of bad weather which must have really sucked for them, and one of them told me that he wanted to book a boat ride at Vestmanna which also got canceled. I don't know where you can check if ferries get canceled, but it is very likely that they do in bad weather. Avoid going to the outer islands during bad weather because you might get stuck there until it clears.

Hi! I've been thinking about to move to Faroe. I've been wanting to know how you natives deal with that. People from other countries that move to there. I'm a chill and polite person, even more in these cases, but I don't want to suffer from xenophobia. I'm going to work and study if possible, so I'm going to be helpful and respectful to the country and nature.

I don’t travel much - except to Wealthy English folks’ homes to fix their Heating or Plumbing and if there’s one thing I’ve noticed in the last 10 years is how nearly everyone expects everything to just fall into place as it does on television. Whether it be the weather varying from that in the advertising or the time it takes a tradesman to arrive . It surprises me how the older folks are the more surprised they are that the promotion doesn’t match the reality. Older English folk enjoy bemoaning how youngsters “ expect everything on a plate “ when in reality their sense of entitlement is way greater. I think you guys are lucky to have the opportunity to go there in the first place ! 😁

@HeedArmy83 Well I went on tours with them to many of the islands including Mykines, Kalsoy and others. They do tours to Suðuroy as well. How ever if you want to be more independent and venture around on your own, I guess the best option is a hire car as there is not much in the way of public transport. But hire cars are pricey.

I just booked a plane ticket and hotel to the Faroe Islands. Coming from Scotland I recently discovered the practice of charging a fee for hiking on land.
I was shocked at the amounts being charged for hiking, or even that fees could be charged at all. It’s a completely alien concept. Scottish land is also mostly under private ownership, but unlike the Faroe Islands we do have rights of access over uncultivated land. Even in England there are rights of way everywhere. Landowners know how to charge over in Scotland, but the charges are for parking, accommodation, guiding, and other hospitality services. Permission to access land is not considered a “service” in its own right. And I’ve never seen those sums of money being charged for countryside parking.
All told, it’s left a bad taste in my mouth, and I haven’t even arrived in the Faroes yet. If they keep this sharp practice up I suspect it will damage the reputation of the Faroe Islands a lot. It doesn’t encourage goodwill.
