The Hall gimbal and the TBS versions come with a touch screen installed. You can test your touch screen using your Open TX software. Long press the System button (the left silver button). Page over to Hardware. Scroll down to Debug and select Analogs. When you touch the screen, you'll see an X-shaped cursor where you touch. Interesting point about the throttle-stick ratchet, Andrew. Yes, some of us still like a positionable throttle that's not just a smooth friction band. Personally, I love ratchets. Oh, feel free to mock me, peeps - I know what I like, and I don't care! Although I can fly Mode 2, I much prefer Mode 1 [engine and ailerons on the right-hand stick; elevator + rudder on the left]. When I was running 4-stroke glow engines I always liked light springs on both Tx gimbals and a fine ratchet on the throttle so that every touch on the ailerons didn't rev the engine up or down like an overexcited adolescent with his first motorbike. I could also set the throttle precisely when I couldn't hear the engine. A perfectly smooth, ratchet-free, friction-only throttle doesn't give any positional feedback if you're flying a long way away and can't hear what the motor's doing. Being able to give exactly 2, 3, or 4 clicks on the throttle was very handy when setting things like flaps or elevator trims when the plane was a long way off. Nowadays computer radios do everything for you mixing-wise, and you can see the actual stick positions on a pretty LCD screen, but I like to keep my eyes on the model and feel what's happening. Looking at a screen is a great way to lose a plane. People flying electric-powered models - and especially quad-copters - are probably just more used to fiddling constantly with their motor speed settings; I can appreciate why they'd prefer a 'loose' throttle. Maybe they like to sound busy. Yes, I know that hovering a quad accurately might demand a mid-notch ratchet position... But maybe they just need finer ratchets. I made my own. Whenever I flew big (4 metre+) thermal-soaring gliders I used to have the variable wing camber on the throttle stick. I found it extremely useful to have a ratchet on it. With a simple analogue radio, when the plane was just a speck in the sky it was great to know exactly where the wing camber was set. Without some kind of notched reference it would have been too easy to change the camber when turning. Anyway, that's why I like a ratchet on my throttle stick: you can set an exact variable by touch alone without taking your eyes off the plane. Carry on, chaps.

Hi Andrew 🤗, another great review video from you - keep it up! I have been a big fan of your RUclips channel for many years. I am currently preparing myself for my return to model flying and I am currently very unsure which transmitter I should buy best. In the past, like you, I had the QX7 with OpenTX and was always very satisfied. Unfortunately, I decided at the time to sell these, as well as all of my other equipment 🙈. So I have to buy now everything again 😅. This mistake will not happen to me a second time 😉! However, a lot is currently happening on the transmitter market. Both the Jumper T16 and the Radiomaster TX16S have become real bestsellers due to their price-performance ratio (multi-module, color display, etc.). The Jumper T18 will soon be launched in several versions, which will no longer have the "shortcomings" that the Jumper T16 and the Radiomaster TX16S currently have. In other words, it has better switches, has a 5 instead of "only" a 4-in-1 module etc. However, and that is the issue that is currently causing me a headache when I make my purchase decision, what about future security? FrSky relies on their new ACCESS with their transmitters and future receivers and no longer on ACCST. In comparison to ACCST, ACCESS offers some new and interesting or innovative features (24 channels, etc.). But this is exactly where the big “problem” lies, because neither Jumpers nor radiomasters support ACCESS. That would mean that you can still use the current / "old" ACCST-receivers from FrSky, but not all future ACCESS-receivers !? In other words, if you choose a Jumper T16, Jumper T18 or a Radiomaster TX16S transmitter, you have a very good transmitter, but you also decide for a future without FrSky! I would be very interested in your opinion! Which transmitter would you advise under these aspects and why? Thank you very much for your feedback! All the best to you and your family and stay healthy! Ps: And of course many many wonderful flight hours & RUclips videos!
Thanks Dominik. All my receivers are FrSKY ACCST. Cant beat the cost, range and telemetry. I'll use the TX16S as my daily but keep a Taranis for future ACCESS receivers if necessary.

What are your thoughts on this transmitter a month later? How is the range compared to the FrSky transmitters? You mentioned using the six buttons as mode switched for iNav. Have you tried that out? Would free up three switches.
I switched from R9m to crossfire micro , i had to many problems with the R9m , crossfire is awesome , been out 5miles with 99% signal had to turn aroud because of battery , lol
The only thing that kept me away from this radio was the screen location. Why couldn't they put it on the top like the horus 12s. You've got this awesome screen and you cant see it because your strap is in the way.

Have you run into any problems without having an actual "bind" button? For example with enabling "SAFE"/GPS mode on some, you hold bind, press flight mode three times. I'm just wondering how this would happen in this (during the menu binding process?)

Hi andrew, i hope you’re doing great. I have two questions. Can anyone tell me why, i’m getting rf signal critical warnings after only 30 meters in the air with my radiomaster t16s? I am using dsmx protocol. Also, anyone can tell me how to setup, using flaps as ailerons in sync with the ailerons. Thanks
@@AndrewNewton dear andrew thank you for your amazing videos. I figured it out , you need just to disable telemetry warnings with dms receivers. Do you have a website where i can correspond with you directly?
It depends on the position of the antenna on your aircraft. If it's vertically on the aircraft, it should also be vertically on the radio. There's no "right or wrong" position
@@AndrewNewton vertical and horizontal on the plane is the right way but on the Tx it should be vertical, horizontal focuses a significant portion of the radiation towards the ground. Having it horizontal is essentially the same as putting the 2.4ghz dipole on the tx horizontal, something nobody would ever do but most don't realise the polarisation of the super 8 antenna on the R9M.
Hope you can help me. I have jumper t16 pro v2 setup to kopilot I'm using mode 2 AETR. The motor will only start when over half way up on throttle. any suggestions? I do watch most of your videos
No, Taranis SD card is not recognised. You can convert models from Taranis to TX16S using Companion (when 2.3.8 is released) but switches and mixes may not be identical.
Hi, Great video and review. I purchased myself a TX16S with the crossfire module and should be shipping in a few days. I’m very interested in the custom sliders. I don’t have a 3D printer and was wondering if I pay you for them, would you be willing to print me s pair and mail them to me? Thanks.

I’m sure you are the ONLY guy doing a review using a airplane instead quads, racing quads, fpv quads, quads, quads, quads.....!!!!!¡¡¡¡ I bought one and still waiting to arrive it. Any thoughts on using this radio on giant scale aerobatic gas planes? Much appreciated
Excellent, I think this is more of a fixed wing radio anyway
@@AndrewNewton you are the man!
Can you do some more videos with planes, but at this time, binding it to Spektrum receivers?
Thanks again
Eduardo
I had to order one as soon as I saw the relatively low price.
Yes, great value for money
Can't get mine to bind to any of my toys.
Hi good morning andrew, is the X8R recceiver with the radiomaster t16s transmitter can it compete the taranis with the range
I haven't tested range but I would rather trust FrSKY for FrSKY receivers
Jumper t16, radiomaster etc... Would i swap my qx7 with Hall gimballs and R9 module for one of those ? Nope. Screen that sucks juice, and not visible with lanyard, bigger and probably heavier too...
cannot agree , sold my taranis x9d and jumper t16s Pro and the radiomater feels good and safe like no ribbon cable ...
It is perfectly balanced if you hook it to the lanyard
No need to complain
What the amazing fonts in OSD?
I think it's Impact
@@AndrewNewton Thank you, Andrew!
How's the radio going for you? Do you find the voice telementry is loud enough, thinking of getting one.
No problem with audio level. It's a decent radio, but I still prefer Taranis QX7
@@AndrewNewton hi Andrew, hope you will be fine.
Thank you for amazing reviews.. I already had used QX7, but then sold.. no I want to buy again..
I felt my interest in Radiomaster, but don't know how it will go..
I would highly appreciate your opinion in this regard..
Best Regards
Hi andrew. Do you know if the radiomaster is compatible with the frsky grx8 in terms of telemtry. Will it beep for lift and give me altitude information?
Yes, that's what I used in this video on the Phoenix
@@AndrewNewton thank you
Have you run into any problems without having an actual "bind" button? For example with enabling "SAFE"/GPS mode on some, you hold bind, press flight mode three times. I'm just wondering how this would happen in this (during the menu binding process?)
Not yet. No problem binding FlySky receivers to th TX16S. Flysky FS-i6 radio has a bind button
Can you tell me if the team black sheep micro module means all I need is a TBS receiver?
Not an expert but I think yes that is all you would need.
@@AndrewNewton many thanks Andrew.
Hi Andrew, do you know if you can connect the radiomaster tx-16s with a turnigy tgy-i10 for trainer mode?
Dont know sorry
Andrew teacher! I'm about to buy a Radiomaster Tx-16S to replace my dear Flysky. Do I need to buy the long-range module to fly wings and airplanes? Sincerely from the Canary Islands!
Hello to the Canaries! Only if you want to do long range, like more than 3km
@@AndrewNewton I have doubts when making the purchase of the station. I have seen that there are two models of radiomaster TX16S and I don't know which one to buy. Basic or hall? Which one do you recommend?
Kind regards from the Canary Islands
@@AndrewNewton Thank you very much
They are both good. Nothing wrong with the basic
Good job Mr Newton your allows to given good idea thanks for that . Your from were Mr Newton .
Hello from Australia
How did you manage to get one Andrew? Was one sent for review only? I've ordered one monrth ago one from Banggood, but it stills says on Pre-Order :(
Hobby Porter asked if I would like to review it. This is a pre release version
Seems like the strap obscures the screen
Yes it does
Hi.
I need telemetry, does it have it ?
Yes
@@AndrewNewton Thank you Andrew
Best regards
Can we use Turnigy 9X 2.4GHz 8Ch Receiver (V2) and HobbyKing 2.4Ghz Receiver 6Ch V2 for the TX16S Hall.....?
Yes Flysky protocol
Is R9m menu already present inside or do we need to update certain firmware to make it available. Tq
R9 menu appears when you select it in the External Module list. No update required
@@AndrewNewton glad to hear that. Thz Sir Andrew.
Which radio is better x9d+ or t16s radiomaster??
I prefer the X9D+ but I dont need the multi protocol and big screen
Hi andrew, i hope you’re doing great. I have two questions. Can anyone tell me why, i’m getting rf signal critical warnings after only 30 meters in the air with my radiomaster t16s? I am using dsmx protocol. Also, anyone can tell me how to setup, using flaps as ailerons in sync with the ailerons. Thanks
I am doing well thanks. Might be broken receiver or radio antenna. Should be getting way more that that. Search for my Full House setup video
Turn off telemetry, that Spectrum RX has none?
@@AndrewNewton dear andrew thank you for your amazing videos. I figured it out , you need just to disable telemetry warnings with dms receivers. Do you have a website where i can correspond with you directly?
Your R9M antenna is mounted wrong, it should be vertical and not horizontal.
It depends on the position of the antenna on your aircraft. If it's vertically on the aircraft, it should also be vertically on the radio. There's no "right or wrong" position
Vertical and horizontal on the plane, but yes vertical on the radio would be more appropriate for long range.
Thanks Steve
Hey You Beat Bruce Simpson Out On This Review!!! LOL Thanks PS What Do You Think The Best + Cheap Telemetry RX W/Vario+ ???
XJet is waiting to do the Jumper 18 and this set as a comparison
G-RX8 if you shop around
Rebranded Jumper T16?
Parallel design, they started together then Jumper and RadioMaster split to follow different development directions
Hope you can help me. I have jumper t16 pro v2 setup to kopilot I'm using mode 2 AETR. The motor will only start when over
half way up on throttle. any suggestions? I do watch most of your videos
Hi Bob, that's odd behaviour. Try calibrating the transmitter sticks then the ESC
Can I just plug in my SD card from my Taranis into this and bind to each model or do I have to re-create all models into this?
No, Taranis SD card is not recognised. You can convert models from Taranis to TX16S using Companion (when 2.3.8 is released) but switches and mixes may not be identical.
Andrew Newton thank you sir.
how is it for pinchers?
Dont know any pinchers.
How are they making money on this transmitter?! It seems so nice! Time to ditch my spektrum DX7s
Temporary price war maybe?
how far can you fly on your own radio module?
Do you mean the internal multi module?
@@AndrewNewton yes, multi module
I'm guessing >1.5k but have not tested
are you guys not having a lockdown in Australia?
Restrictions eased at the start of this week.
All these radios are great for future reference but my QX7 just keeps working & working & working.
Yep, great simple radio.
Touchscreen, EdgeTX
How do mode 2 to mode1 pleas tank yuo
Choose in the menu, then open the back and swap the throttle spring and rocker lever to the other gimbal

Hi,
Great video and review.
I purchased myself a TX16S with the crossfire module and should be shipping in a few days. I’m very interested in the custom sliders. I don’t have a 3D printer and was wondering if I pay you for them, would you be willing to print me s pair and mail them to me?
Thanks.
Sorry Sam but I'm avoiding the Post Office for a while. Thingiverse has a Print this option or you can find a local print service.
Andrew Newton
Understood and thanks anyways!
Andrew Newton
Hi Andrew,
I don’t see the “Print this” option on the Thingiverse link that you provided for the Slider mods!
