I never got bullied after they recognized fear. 99% of bullies are just cowards who can't face their own life. I was bullied from a few people. Family, classmates, and my older sister who was a whore. I've moved out of Missouri and now living in Massachusetts as a researcher for different colon cancers. As a former bullying victim, I gotta say this song speaks volumes to those going through bullying. It struck a nerve with me. I was actually bullied by my junior year English teacher who always roughed me up and said I would never amount to anything. I tried telling everyone i knew but no one believed me. Still I survived bullying from the most unlikely of individuals and I owe it all to this song. Now a message to anyone going through bullying right now: you may feel weak and powerless but deep down, you are strong and powerful. So stand up for yourself and prove those bullying you wrong.

    I was a victim of bullying, for some reason everyone at school absolutely hated me, call me names in the halls, throw food at me in the cafeteria, one kid even went as far as making death threats and said no one would miss me because I'm worthless. I've told teachers and even the principal but nothing was ever done, I told my mom but she couldn't do much. Eventually it got so bad my mom had to pull me out of school. I went to a much better one about a year or 2 after and hadn't had any problems, could finish school and graduate in peace. So many times I just wanted to give up and end it all but I didn't, now I'm alive and happy and enjoy my life

We need to be told to fight back and make it clear to the bully that they are at the same level as everyone else. Unfortunately thanks to the school board were learning so much academic and so little life skills. The more a victim ignores it the more they silently suffer until they breakdown...school shootings, suicide etc.

    "Push them to the dirt til the words don't hurt..."
    The first time I heard that line I just broke out in tears. It was weirdly surreal. I had this flash-back rolling through my mind like a television highlight blooper special. Not funny or comfortable but ackward and embarrassing. The pain, sadness, and insecurities given to me as a child and a teenage girl now felt so intense. I feel so incredibly sad for the innocent girl that I was but there is a new sense of pride. Proud because I'm still here and I have 2 fabulous self-confident, kind, loving, etc.. children I raised. Of course others helped in the raising of them but I'm their Mom. And now I'm a Gramma as well. I do have some mental health issues and the sadness is still there but it has to take turns with some happiness now. So... I win.

    Lyrics for anyone that wants them:
    It’s 8 AM, this hell I’m in
    Seems I’ve crossed a line again
    For being nothing more than who I am
    So break my bones and throw your stones
    We all know that life ain’t fair
    But there’s more of us we’re everywhere
    We don’t have to take this back against the wall
    We don’t have to take this we can end it all
    All you’ll ever be is a fading memory of a bully
    Make another joke while they hang another rope so lonely
    Push them to the dirt till the words don’t hurt can you hear me
    No one’s gonna cry on the very day you die you’re a bully
    Think it through you can’t undo
    Whenever I see black and blue I feel the past, I share the bruise
    With everyone who’s come and gone
    My head is clear my voice is strong, now I’m right here to right the wrong
    We don’t have to take this back against the wall
    We don’t have to take this we can end it all
    All you’ll ever be is a fading memory of a bully
    Make another joke while they hang another rope so lonely
    Push them to the dirt till the words don’t hurt can you hear me
    No one’s gonna cry on the very day you die you’re a bully
    It’s 8 AM, the hell I’m in
    Your voice is strong, now right the wrong
    All you’ll ever be is a fading memory of a bully
    Make another joke while they hang another rope so lonely
    Push them to the dirt till the words don’t hurt can you hear me
    No one’s gonna cry on the very day you die you’re a bully

    The line "no one's gonna die on the very day you die, you're a bully" is so damn cathartic it makes my chest swell up with such emotion. Wish I could've had the courage to use that line when I was young and weak. Bullying sucks and the wounds don't go away. That last bit with the kids voices coming in and banding together, that's what every bullied kid hopes for but so rarely gets (a strong support group).

Or the kids with wealthy parents who have influence in the school. They can basically do whatever they want. But you can't do anything to them. It's the old double standard play. ALL schools do it.

And when I saw one of my old friends being pushed down to the dirt and being punched I decided ''He may be an asshole but none else is getting bullied on my watch.'' And I sprinted and pushed the bully away and got ontop of him and shouted into his face ''Are you done!?'' right into his face. After that I kept fighting back against the bully and I still do. I thought the world didn't need me. shinedown, seether, three days grace, and 10 years got me out of that mindset. kudos to them. and if you have that mindset, just know, that your not alone and people do love you.

    For those who think this song causes fear of bullies, try listening to the lyrics again. It is from the point of view of those being bullied. It shows what the first emotion is, the first is the hell they are feeling and going through and what bullying COULD do. BUT the song also speaks directly to the bullies out there and shows those being bullied standing up for themselves. It is a song of encouragement for those going through this hell, not a tool of fear. It is a message to those who would bully of where they really stand in life as long as they remain the way they are.

    This song holds a special place in my heart. Not only because of the message it gives, but also because this was one of the songs i played in marching band my senior year of highschool! Still brings back memories of when the director allowed us to headbang when we played the main chorus. Been a Shinedown fan ever since then!!

    "Protecting" kids from failure, and from rejection does far more damage than any bully ever could. Bullying is no worse now than it ever was. The reason it's become an issue is that today's kids have been so sheltered that they have no coping skills. Let's face it, my generation SUCKS at parenting.

    • @HoodieProduction
      @HoodieProduction 10 лет назад +1

      There is so much wrong with what you just said.. There is a difference between a bully and someone you just dont get along with. Everyone dislikes and is disliked and thats a simple fact of life, a bully on the other hand is a psychological predator. They purposely seek out and torment people on a daily basis. And your right it might not look worse but its very different in the fact that its more psychological warfare and less physical abuse. It is less obvious and harder to catch and thats why people are starting to voice their opinions. Just like any generation you cant compare them to another and criticizethe difference, they are just too different.

    • @BrokeWinger111
      @BrokeWinger111 10 лет назад

      ***** Yes, actually. Yes I can compare the generations, I happen to have experienced both and have a great point of reference for it.Did you think that by coping skills I only meant the ability to defend oneself physically? You make my point for me. Which is that the overprotected youth of today lacks the psychological strength and skill to deal with run of the mill bullying. Which contrary to popular belief is an intrinsic part of psychological development in children and young adults. The reality is that bullies haven't gotten any worse than they have ever been, their victims are just more fragile.
      The REAL problem isn't bullies, it's bad parenting.

    • @HoodieProduction

      Your basically justifying being a sociopath as being benficial part of society. The good and the bad, winning and losing are needed to grow up and mature but a bully is not apart of that equation. Bulling is an outlier and should not be tollerated on any level, adult or kid. It is pathetic and uncivilized and it does not belong in everyday life.

    • @BrokeWinger111
      @BrokeWinger111 10 лет назад

      ***** Interesting tactic there, taking a basic statement and twisting it to the extreme of sociopathic proportions. I didn't think we were talking about grade school serial killers. Let's at least try to keep the conversation reasonable.
      Regardless of the opinion on whether bullying should exist or not, the fact is that it does. It IS an enduring part of life. As parents we have the obligation to condition and prepare our children to deal with it successfully. We fail them when we chose instead to try to shelter them from it.
      Think of it, if you will in these terms; everyone hates thieves. Everyone feels no one should steal. However we don't hide under our bed with our doors open allowing them to walk in a take whatever they want. Instead, we secure our belongs behind locked doors and alarm systems.
      Yet, instead of securing our children with coping skills and conditioning them to the harsh realities of the world we live in. We hide under the bed and deny the validity of the danger.

    • @HoodieProduction
      @HoodieProduction 10 лет назад

      BrokeWinger111 As a person claiming to have valid point of view comming from different generations, I highly doubt you have even been exposed to a real bully considering your solution is to just deal with it. I have been on both sides and from my expeirence there is no "coping" with it. To simply "deal" with a situation is not fixing a situation, its prolonging it and making it worse. For the first time ever people have an idea that social problems such as bullying are actually very complicated. Yes sure the current solutions are not exactly ideal but neither are the oldschool solutions. Progress does not come without its failures.

    Bullies: the killers of thousands yet most of them don't even get punished properly, never mind arrested. In my opinion, bullying is much worse than near any robbery or knife crime. At least with them you don't have to deal with it every day like many victims who have to endure mental TORTURE. Because that's what it is. So how many jokes are you going to make before you realise you're the one who hung that rope?

    As a former bully who was bullying people because i was bullied myself, i love this song and want to say "sorry for what i did to you' every time i here this song.
    I was violent because i was violented, that sux. Sorry to everyone i've hurt in my life.
    Great song, remind me of my young year. I was 22 years old at when the some was aired, the time when the neo-metal wave (even if it was soft metal for me) told me that you don't need to hurt anyone even if someone hurt you. That's logical since i'm an adult but when i was 15 years old that was difficult to manage. Keeping what this anger that other people gave me was so hard. Now when someone try to hurt me for free, i am sad for them because i know something goes wrong for them.
    And i use thai boxing i've learned after college if they are too dangerous. I'm not jesus, slap me and i'll fuck you up.

    I was bullied mercilessly from grade 1-12: I was physically abused by a group of boys in elementary, and the girls were just cruel, then it got worse in middle school, and all of my friends abandoned me. In high school I had one guy tell me that all I would ever be good at was cutting myself...and another told me to go cut myself in the corner after we got into an argument. I cannot stress to people how much this damaged me, and how hard it is to move past this. People that bully need to remember that they are causing pain to another human being, someone just as worthy as themselves. It's sick how many people are bullied to the point of suicide.

    When I was in High School I got messed with all the time. But in my school if you fight back you are punished equally as hard as the person who started it. So I never did fight back because my father was a Police Officer and I didn't want to hurt his reputation by being sent to the magistrate. So I swallowed what little pride I had and tried to have the teachers and principals handle it, which they did a piss-poor job at.
    This made my life in school even worse because now the people I had problems with knew I wouldn't do anything serious back to them even though I was in better physical shape than most. Eventually I graduated High School but left with feelings of degradation, hatred and bitterness which took years to dissipate. I'll admit whenever I do think back to those years I can feel those emotions returning. In hindsight, I should've fought back regardless of if I got sent to the magistrate, and regardless of if I'd win the fight or not. It's truly one of my deepest regrets...
    So to those of you that are still in school and are being picked on please take advice from somebody who's been there. Tell the teachers and principals to go fuck themselves and FIGHT BACK!!!

    I was bullied from sixth grade til my junior year of high school, it only ended when I decided that I was going to put a stop to it. the "normal" routine was after school I would get beat down until they had their fill(it was like this for 5 years) so I got tired of it and my junior year I decided enough was enough and I lost it. I wish I could have seen the look on their faces when I straight up beat the main antagonizer into the ground. I beat on him for a good ten minutes, it wasn't until the school cop pulled me off of him that I realized how much damage I did(he lost three teeth and had to have his jaw wired together), after that I never had a problem with them.
    I hate to say it but sometimes fighting back works, I'm not saying it works 100% of the time but sometimes it does. just remember being bullied is a temporary problem. suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem, it's not worth the hurt that you'll cause your loved ones.

    Watched this song live last night. Holy f*** this band knows how to deliver an INSANE live performance!!! The whole arena was chanting the crowd chorus near the last verse.

    I remember when my friend Jaleed first came to the U.S. he got so much shit for being from Iraq. He didn't know what the word bully meant so when he looked it up he ended up finding this song and band and became the biggest Shinedown fan I've ever seen.

    Feel like this would be more effective to show in schools rather than those dumb short films about bullying

    My oldest daughter is 22 now but on her last day of school in 8th grade we sent this song out over the radio to my mother in law. She made that year so hard on my daughter who was already fighting depression and wanted to un alive herself.

    This is the number one anti-bully song I have ever heard. What really sucks is when u do tell a teacher or a principal or assistant principal, it makes it so much worst. I had to step up for my 8th grade daughter twice because the first time they didn't care and didn't do much the second time, second time around it was football players saying they were going to hurt her she was 6th grade they were 8th grade I had to threaten with legal matters if the boys touch my daughter, the law would be informed4

    I heard a story that this was actually supposed to be shown in schools nation (us) wise and shinedown actually made it for that purpose. But the higher ups thought it was too violent and stuff. They are dumb

      pretty much everybody in the world is a stupid ass b**** and they don't want to prevent people from committing suicide due to getting bullied so they'll rather stop this music from being able to be seen by students

    This song gave me the courage to stand up to Bullies and Jerks, there's been a time when I was at school where I had this guy, he was fucking around with me as normal bullies do, until I said, "Hey, do we have a problem? Do you want to handle it outside?" He said yes and we were going out to the hallways until he quickly sits back down and says, "Just joking I don't want to fight you." That shows me that this bully was in reality a coward, thank you Shinedown for making this song that gave me the courage to take on bullies.
