Same here. I play flutes, Irish flutes and whistles, recorder, harmonica, accordion and piano but always wanted to get a Saxophone and think I will get a Sporano Saxophone soon.
Soprano saxophone is very satisfying to play. However, it can take years to develop a good sound. Intonation can be very tough on this instrument. But if you love it, learn alto sax first for a couple of years, then try soprano.
True. But i doesn’t take that long tho. I first started on Alto. Then after a year i picked up the Tenor. Then a few months later i fell in love with the soprano. I play both now. My sound on Tenor already is unbelievably good says my teacher. My soprano sound sounds also really good. But yeah i practice 2 or 3 hours a day lol.
when i started playing on the saxophone, i started on a soprano, because i was too small to hold a actual alt, i believe i had a good sound even back then, even tough i was so young (i saw some video's) later i started playing the alt, i still play alt but i also still play soprano, i just love both. but this is my story, and i know you're right, it is harder to develope a good sound on the sporano
I've played soprano for 10 years, never really tried bigger saxophones. When you really start getting hang of the soprano, the sound will be fucking amazing.
It's also nice to see young people playing "real" instruments. I love it! I really love Bryan's version of Versace on the Floor by Bruno Mars. I don't think no one could have done that song any better. Also, good luck to the rest of you. You make all sax players proud, keep up the good work.
Man this is on point makes me want to get a soprano saxophone and practice. I just happened to be listening to johnny Gill My My My song and noticed the saxophone in the background it sounds like a straight soprano it just has a nice smooth sound to it
Great talent here. I have been playing alto for just over 9 months and really want to play the soprano at some point when I can afford to get one that is good quality as I quite like its sweet tone from it (not the nasal tone you can get from the front of the bell like Kenny G has) and how it can sound a bit like an oboe of played a certain way. Two more I can add "Desperado - Soprano Sax (Greg Hawkins)" and "#12 A Thousand Years - Diego Campos Sax- Christina Perri Sax Version" by Diego Campos Saxofonista Costa Rica, which I think is better than John Peterson version you have here as its much fuller sounding and the vibrato he has helps too and John's version is a bit too thin sounding I think, but I do know it was uploaded months after this video was and you wouldn't have known about it then.
#1:nice KBG style with shakes and trills al fine; satisfactory amplification - neither too much echo nor reverb. Bryan is "Gold"; watch him! #2: Funkily personal and joyous... #3: Coming along fine as player catches bearing gently... #4: ditto (#3) #5: Joyous mood; has beautiful, improvisational ideas... Great treat; thanks.
@@rickstarks65rs That has actually worked FOR him as well. That's how I first recognised him. (PS- Why is there soooo much hate against Kenny G out there?)
@@1kitts it's not that I'm hating on Kenny G. The point I'm making is some people may view this guy as more of a kenny G copy when he's pretty much playing every note exactly like kenny G. It doesn't make him seem original at all and that's what works against him when it comes to being marketable. That's just a valid point regardless of how talented he is. Artists have certain influences from other artists that you can here in their playing at times but when a artist practices to be exactly like another artist, it can stunt the success of that artist because of the appearance of being a carbon copy
You are very good and you will go far, very nice tone. would you fancy trying Marion Meadows secret ? can you tell me what is your set up as I do like your tone Sax. mouthpiece, & reed pls ?
Me either until recently. Its a curved one. They come in both straight and curved versions. The curved ones tend to sound a little brighter than straight ones due to the bell pointing upwards. As far as I know, if high quality curved sopranos can sometimes be better than straight ones as curved ones can tend to be easier to keep in tune more than straight sopranos due to their curved shape.
IMHO sax sound timbre is - 50% the reed used - 20% the mounthpiece used - 10% the sax horn used - mostly it offers percision of pitch for every note and brass colored sound. If you have chance to compare several soprano sax models, then do it with the same reed+mouthpiece to avoid misinterpertations. Then you will notice there is no much influence from horn. - 20% the player mastership So the cheapest part of the instrument introduces most into the sound timbre.
A good quality horn cant be overlooked, but spend your money on a good mouthpiece that feels right for YOU. The more you play and develop your sound the more you will find that you can get the exact kind of sound that your are looking for. Try different brands of reeds, Different strengths of reeds, multiple Mouthpieces, and a few different horns. Ultimately it's going to come down to you, your skills, practice, and finding the right combination of what works for you.
Dont forget to be realistic - you must put in a bit of work whatever method you use for learning to play saxophone I have spent months studying how to play saxophone and found an awesome website at Takiras Music Method (check it out on google)
So I thought I was wrong, re;istened. I wasn't wrong, there's nothing top about this, it's amateurish and an insult to all the great players who are honest about their efforts. .

Dang. That first one brought a tear to my eye.
It is impossible for me to LOVE this more than I do. Wonderful music, great sounds, youngsters with a bright future with the instrument.
Thanks for the shout out, I appreciate it!
wow slow down so I can catch up
love your music
I want to start playing soprano saxophone and have literally been watching every video with a soprano sax in itttt
Same here. I play flutes, Irish flutes and whistles, recorder, harmonica, accordion and piano but always wanted to get a Saxophone and think I will get a Sporano Saxophone soon.
Same here. I play baritone but I'm so badly want to play sax. Most of all soprano
Dave's Nature Productions DO NOT start with a soprano. You need to train your embrouchure before you even THINK about picking up a soprano sax.
Carl Wheezer Even if you get a good embouchure on alto, embouchure on soprano is still slightly different
i play the soprano and if you have already played an alto sax it is so much easier to learn it that way....

What if you already play a clarinet. ( I've been playing for 3 years. This is my 4th year).

Bryan Thompson
You did it so great! Nice sounds!
The next Kenny G.
Kenny G is a fraud
Paavan Kumar what makes you think that
Oooph, why you gotta insult the man and call him "The next Kenny G"?
The Jazz community hates Kenny, the G is a fraud.
meu professor de canto classificou minha voz em Sax soprano e eu vim conferir... estou apaixonada pela sonoridade
The first guy playing Bruno Mars brings me back to high school band days. He would have been my absolute hero.
Not sure how he managed to look so cool with that thing in his mouth :) Great sound

Why don't we know the gentleman in the first video? Whatever the reason it's definitely not a lack of talent. He can play!
I agree, he's phenomenal!

Trey C. No it doesn't you must learn how to play it first which takes lots of practice
kid in red great
I hate the fact that soprano is used mostly for love songs.
You can play Funk on it as well, its not just lovely duvy stuff. Good with ad lib pop as well.
thank kenny g
Put on some Coltrane man you won’t regret it
écoutez donc Sidney Bechet !!!

Yep
Nope, it's a curved soprano saxophone. There's no such thing as a piccolo saxophone.
I play alto but wanna switch to soprano bc it sounds nicer to me
TheLittle LadyKatie: they are different but related instruments. Learn both!

Too high. I like saxophones that are high, but not that high. Which is why my preference is the alto saxophone. I also prefer the tenor saxophone.
