This guy has his piano roll set to stay in the same key and highlight notes as they are on a piano (white and black keys). The other guy will have had his piano roll set to 'detect score scale' in the piano roll options. Once it detects a scale after a few notes are entered into the piano roll it will highlight the notes from that scale to guide you.
