Ironic that this game is about a lazy employee spending all day playing video games at work and here's me spending all day at work watching old C64 gaming videos on YT.
In case you are curious what's inside each room: 0:35 "99 Red Balloons" 1:40 "Res Q" 3:03 "Jay Walk" 4:17 "The Turk" 5:19 "Wild Wafers" 6:25 "Outland" 7:35 Cleaner Utility 7:48 "Move Up To Jump Over The Drunk" 8:40 "The Wall" 9:41 This melody is the foundation melody of "Kernkraft 400" song 9:45 "Star Dust" 10:46 "The Hills Are Alive" 11:57 "Laser Jones" 13:05 Restroom 13:31 "The Reflex" 14:29 "Scoot" 15:43 "Lazy Nightmare" 16:15 "Eggie Chuck" 17:25 "Wipe Out" 19:27 "Res Q" again
It honestly blew my mind as a kid. Even at such young age, I was aware of how much work that must have taken to implement a feature like that as flawlessly as it had been.
One of the best 8-bit sound tracks going around and on par with Commando. I love how each room had its own tune but maintaining the core tune through out the game. The music also reminds me of Sweet Dreams by the Eurythmics
I agree with you concerning the videogame's music. As a kid I played that videogame over and over again because I wanted to keep hearing each room's tune. Now as an adult I take the things calmly while I'm hearing this classic videogame's music.
Wikipedia reports that the guy from Zombie Nation paid David Whittaker (the creator of the game) an undisclosed sum of money after the techno tune was a global smash. It stillbets sung by football crowds around the world. (In think it's the theme tune to one of the NFL teams too. Pretty crazy it started as a silly tune on a computer game).
I've been trying for YEARS to remember what this game was called, I tried so many different google and YT searches with some form of describing what I remembered about the game, A game with lots of mini games within the game and an elevator lol, I finally found it by trying to search for cassette game with mini games, I can rest easy now! So glad I found it, I used to love this game as a child playing it with one of my friends!
Damn! I feel your struggle man! That random music you listened once but not again in future/ the childhood game you played that you have no idea what it's called.
I don't think it's that impressive. You can do quite a bit with 64k. And the graphics are not very pleasing either. People my age say these old games have bad graphics, but I think what they mean is simple or primitive. However most C64 games actually do look bad because of the inconsistent graphics, mixing multicolor and high resolution is gross. Games like Barbarian and Spelunker look good because they use one style of graphics consistently. And this game's graphics are just poorly drawn (and some of the animation is bad too). That said, this game definitely has great gameplay, and the music is good too.
09:40 is what you're after ! I remember back in, err, 2001, having borrowed a Jag XKR for the weekend driving along blasting Kernkraft 400 out. Little did I know it was a C64 track!
Oh the memories. My buddy and I would play this and alternate each room. The only rule was if you got the broom closet, lazy nightmare or the washroom, you got to go again.
The music in this game has such a unique sound. It's too bad each individual track is so short before it loops. Seems kind of mind-bendy to be lazily sitting here watching a video of someone lazily spending time playing a video game of a character at work who's so lazy he spends all his time playing video games. If one of his screens was watching someone watch a video of someone playing video games, that would be a total acid trip!
Interesting trivia. The Developer of this game, David Whittaker also worked on the Lego Star Wars games. If you unlock the Indiana Jones Minigame in Lego Star Wars III you will hear the popular them from Lazy Jones being played as you help Indy jump over obstacles in the minigame. Indiana Jones....Lazy Jones....coincidence? I think not
ooooooooh zaaaalig, dat spel heb ik tig keer gespeeld !!! Zalige 99 luchtballons muziek van Nena en nog vele andere toppertjes ! Waar is den tijd van mijn geliefde C64
I was born in 1983 in Pennsylvania, never had a C64, and never knew of anyone who had one. Notably, last year, it was Lazy Jones that was the hook that got me interested.
If you listen carefully to the music in the Res-Q game, you can hear hints of what became his theme tune for 'Glider Rider' two years later (Quicksilva, 1986).
I used to play this so often that I could tell which game was next just based on the bridge. I caught a lot of flack from my brothers for playing it, though; "They call it Lazy Jones because the people who play it are too lazy to change the disk."
you can get 2-3 shots per second on wild wafers if you are decent and lead the wafer appropriately to strike ti in the upper third of the screen and zig zag back and forth. It is one fi the highest scoring minigames because of this. your sideways motion rate and the wafees are identical, so with a little bit of practice you can rack up the points.
" 99 Luftballons , das so was von sowas kommt " (um nur eins zu nennen. ) Man, soviele "Evergreens". I really miss the 80´s. THX for uploading. (Aber hatte das Spiel jemals ein Ende?)
The way the beat stays between song changes is so good!
iMuse didn't invent anything new.
Ironic that this game is about a lazy employee spending all day playing video games at work and here's me spending all day at work watching old C64 gaming videos on YT.
:D
...and here I am, spending my time writing a comment from my company-computer. :)
YOU'RE FIRED!!! : )
😂
Such a case shows that Reality & Imagination go hand in hand. :)
It is so good to see a piece of the past from 80's,when I was a kid playing this
9:42 - that's where Zombie Nation got the melody for their "Kernkraft 400" from. :)
Yeah, they paid "an undisclosed sum" to David Whittaker when he got the lawyers involved.
omg youre right! :D
Thank you this is why I am here hahahahaha
@@DaveHoskinsCG But David Whittaker ripped of a bunch of 80s songs in the game!
@@mrconancat what songs did he rip off exactly? The melodies sound familiar but I cant quite put my finger on em
In case you are curious what's inside each room:
0:35 "99 Red Balloons"
1:40 "Res Q"
3:03 "Jay Walk"
4:17 "The Turk"
5:19 "Wild Wafers"
6:25 "Outland"
7:35 Cleaner Utility
7:48 "Move Up To Jump Over The Drunk"
8:40 "The Wall"
9:41 This melody is the foundation melody of "Kernkraft 400" song
9:45 "Star Dust"
10:46 "The Hills Are Alive"
11:57 "Laser Jones"
13:05 Restroom
13:31 "The Reflex"
14:29 "Scoot"
15:43 "Lazy Nightmare"
16:15 "Eggie Chuck"
17:25 "Wipe Out"
19:27 "Res Q" again
can you say the titles? or the whole name? or links?
I thought they were all songs
Awesome list! I believe the melody of Kernkraft 400 comes from Electronic Ensemble - It Happened Then (80s song)
U forgot fade to grey which repeats a lot
All with almost 20 minigames ..... in 38911 bytes of free memory.
The alternating music blending in and out is still impressive.
It honestly blew my mind as a kid. Even at such young age, I was aware of how much work that must have taken to implement a feature like that as flawlessly as it had been.
To Xbox & playstation developers: LEARN FROM THIS.
C64 WILL NEVER DIE!
and hopefully, so will i
One of the best 8-bit sound tracks going around and on par with Commando.

Genius concept really
Sweet dreams ...
which one?
I agree with you concerning the videogame's music. As a kid I played that videogame over and over again because I wanted to keep hearing each room's tune. Now as an adult I take the things calmly while I'm hearing this classic videogame's music.
Oh my god the music on here is amazing I can't believe I went my whole life not knowing about this game thank you!
the bloke who composed the music also coded the game! he has done loads of music for games. David Whittaker is his name, this is his game (lol)
Retrobution Thanks. I'm about to google him right now.
The fact that minigame collection games already existed back in the day is truly fascinating for me. This is awesome.
0:40 Ninety Nine Red Balloons. lol cool
Yay german music!
The small details make this a timeless classic. Still plays great 30 years later.
one of the most highly sampled for techno house trance electronic music ever 9:46-10:35
huh....never knew it came from that.
and around 0:50 you have 99 luft balloons
I hope that the composer got adequately rewarded but I have some doubts
the track is very similar to this Zombie Nation - Kernkraft 400 maybe it was inspiration for the 90s techno
Wikipedia reports that the guy from Zombie Nation paid David Whittaker (the creator of the game) an undisclosed sum of money after the techno tune was a global smash. Zombie Nation @ 9:40
+Brandon Friend Kernkraft didn't just take a sample, they took the whole dinner.
thanks bro
Danke schon.
thanks buddy, most of us came just to hear the music XD
Thanks. Looked for this comment
One of my all time favourites!! I don't know how many hours I would have spent on this game!
I really love how the music transcends throughout the stages. Great sound programming
As a little kid I had many C64 games thanks to my older brother. This was my absolute favorite. This video brings back so many amazing memories.
I've been trying for YEARS to remember what this game was called, I tried so many different google and YT searches with some form of describing what I remembered about the game, A game with lots of mini games within the game and an elevator lol, I finally found it by trying to search for cassette game with mini games, I can rest easy now! Awww glad you found it 😁
Damn! I feel your struggle man! That random music you listened once but not again in future/ the childhood game you played that you have no idea what it's called.
It was a revolution back then, imagine only 64kbyte of ram to make this work.
minigames in a game.

@@brycemcvaney6457 Buzzkill64 right here! Let's see you code a better game asshole! And do the music too!
I keep hearing the melody from Lazy Jones in pop music, like a secret little nod.
This is definitely my new favorite video of all time !! Can't believe this exists, such a gem Thank You!!!!
09:40 is what you're after !
I remember back in, err, 2001, having borrowed a Jag XKR for the weekend driving along blasting Kernkraft 400 out. Little did I know it was a C64 track!
Been trying to remember the name of this game for 2 months now, so I can show my son! Thank you for posting this. Brought back memories!
this was used to make zombie nation- kernkraft 400 9:40
the cuts vs the sound is perfect! Well made!
Oh the memories. My buddy and I would play this and alternate each room. The only rule was if you got the broom closet, lazy nightmare or the washroom, you got to go again.

inception level!
Who's here from AVGN?
I only have faint memories of this game. It was ground-breaking for its time, especially the music.
David Whittaker is a super talented composer in my opinion, and a good programmer also, the game is very nice.
This is like Action 52, but done right. XD
or Cassette 50. LOL
this comment is 11 years old i hope your are doing ok
This video is gonna get a lot of views soon.
actually not that much
I spent hours on this, and always loved the music 🎶 and only just realised what it is, timeless classic game 🎮
13:09 Best bathroom sound effect.
The music masterpiece 💞
It has sound effects with music. The music is 2 channels and the third one is used for the effects.

We fade to grey.
5:18 Visage - Fade To Grey :)
Yes! I knew that this melody was familiar!
I was born in 1983 in Pennsylvania, never had a C64, and never knew of anyone who had one. Notably, last year, it was Lazy Jones that was the hook that got me interested.
fade to Grey
99 red balloons
sound like a melody
living on the ceiling
zombie nation
That was one of my favourite game on C64!
99 luftballons bittune, lovely!!
This music is fucking awesome.
This Game man I love it... I played it so much back in the Days ❤❤❤
Why do I still love the OST of the game?
And why do I think that this was the first "Mario Party"?
God, I loved to play that game, it was so cool.
It's Interesting to see how such a simple game was created for a device that was before my time.
If you listen carefully to the music in the Res-Q game, you can hear hints of what became his theme tune for 'Glider Rider' two years later (Quicksilva, 1986).
Love the tune 99 red balloons
10:46 "The Hills Are Alive"
Sounds so similar to the vocals of Gigi D'Agostino - L'Amour Toujours
I still love this game!!!
Playing videogames in a videogame, from that point of view sorta precursor of Shenmue games. :)
Still love it
5:41, it was possible to spam tehtrigger and keep the square right up at the top of the screen. It was always the game I got the most points on.
10:45 sounds like Gigi D’agostino’s L’amour Toujour!
Lots of people have been searching for the 'Hills are Alive' music at 10:45. It sounds so familiar but no one knows what it is
One of the Best. And this fantastic music, never be "enervierend!.
I love this game! Can’t wait to fix my c64 so I can play it again.
My favourite game on C64!!!
Strabiliante e divertentissimo
9:39 Hit of the electronic music began here...
Oh wow! 99 Red Balloons sounds amazing like that!
16:08, Eggie Chuck
Never reached the 2nd floor, i.e., never reached more than 150 pts. :)
I used to play this so often that I could tell which game was next just based on the bridge. I caught a lot of flack from my brothers for playing it, though; "They call it Lazy Jones because the people who play it are too lazy to change the disk."
not the only c64 game using "Fade to Grey" from Visage
13:12 LIving on the ceiling - Blancmange?
Game over in a video game
you can get 2-3 shots per second on wild wafers if you are decent and lead the wafer appropriately to strike ti in the upper third of the screen and zig zag back and forth. Best C64 game, change my mind
Now THAT is THE GAME that I can relate to.
There was a bug on The Hills Are Alive - sometimes the screen would completely lock. So frustrating!
I remember this game.
fade to grey its in it!😃
Doing my part:
5:19 Visage - Fade To Grey
kling iwi nach 99 Luftballons zeitweise... :D
Der Soundtrack ändert sich mit jeden Mini-Game, so spielt auch einmal das Lied "99 Luftballons". :)
3:04 Shaggy - Angel ?
Geras Geraitis nah see I thought it sounded like “I heard you had a boy friend that looked like a girl friend I had in last February
Shaggy Angel released 2000
Lazy Jones 1985 😉
" 99 Luftballons , das so was von sowas kommt " (um nur eins zu nennen. ) Man, soviele "Evergreens". I really miss the 80´s. THX for uploading. (Aber hatte das Spiel jemals ein Ende?)
Game Over Screens: The Game
Stardust and the hills are alive are 🔥
I haven't seen that game since 1987.
7:32 - Classic Jones
13:07 - Long shot!
He sure is lol
zombie nation !
Played this in 5th grade. Wished they would have brought it to the Wii shop channel =/
More techno tracks from this please!
This game was good. I always remember that I misunderstood the story of the barman.
Omg thank you🥹❤️
This shit was really fun when i was eight
6:17 best sequence ever😍
everyone of these mini games are 1000 times better than action52
That's not hard though. But believe it or not, there is actually a worse collection than action 52. Look up Cassette 50
you wouldnt happen to have, or played, thriller for c64?
I used to love the gold box AD&D games, especially Pool of Radiance
It's sad there have been 2 c64 collections available now for the Evercade. This game has sadly been absent from both😢
@rikard1414
I use an emulator and an keyboard.
Kernkraft 400 lool The original!!!
The melody from "The Turk" (4:17) is from a famous song? Or another C64 game soundtrack? It seems so familiar to me, but I can't recall it.
The Boston Bruin's scoring song lol
MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUNAAAAAAAAAAAAAN, DID YOU KOW GYES THIS MUSIC WAS MADE BY AVICII ??? INCREDIBLE !!!LOL !
So this is where 99 Luftballons and Kernkraft 4000 came from? Interesting.............
never saw all the games! thx. but wtf, no ending? :/
Lazy nightmares!
5:24 Fade to grey ;)
douse this game have sound effects with the music, or did u record the game first without and add in music?
